Hello, Nicolas Eynaud!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Categories edit

Hi Nicolas,

please categorize your files:

And don't forget to put them into Category:Maps in Occitan / Category:Diagrams in Occitan.

Yours sincerely, --Frontieras (talk) 09:47, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Recreation of deleted content edit

Do not reupload deleted files. Jcb (talk) 21:30, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I Know it but t was not the same, even if I choose the same colours. Please check before deleting. --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 09:20, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Moreover, could you give me please the link to the first decision to delete the original maps ? I didn't find it (because it'll probably allow me to modificate the maps in order to solve the initial problem). Thank you very much. --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 09:54, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Maybe, but the reason why it was deleted still applies, the maps are still unsourced and claimed as 'own work'. Please read COM:DW. Also consider this your last warning. You have a history of reuploading deleted content while repeating your false own work claim. This has to stop here and now. Jcb (talk) 09:59, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think explications about deleting before the warming would have been a more diplomatic (and constructive) approach. I reuploaded the first map. If you can read the sources, you'll see it's my "own work" as a derivative work (mainly, from texts and maps coming from international reports). Best regards, --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 11:01, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, then you will have to learn the hard way what 'last warning' means. Jcb (talk) 11:27, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unblock request declined

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.

Request reason: "Some maps I uploaded were deleted for "no sources" reason. After not understanding the reason why, I reuploaded them with sources and the administrator Jcb blocked me (without reading explications about the sources and using "unfree files" cause as it is not the case. Moreover, Jcb didn't notices new fils were not the ones deleted by decisions of the communauty —> he eventually deleted maps with sources. I think the blocking is then inappropriate and I ask for unblocking. Best regards."
Decline reason: "The block was fair, as Jcb explained below. Taivo (talk) 07:40, 6 December 2018 (UTC)"Reply

Oppose - you are not showing that you understand the problem. You reuploaded the files more than once after the first time I told you not to do that. That there are small differences between the uploads is irrelevant. The last time you mentioned some sources, but you failed to show how these sources are compatible with a free license, which they are apparently not. Jcb (talk) 12:12, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Is it a common practice that the administrator who did a blockage answered the appeal ? It looks funny... --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 12:56, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ User talk:Jcb : then, to be serious, if you read the sources, you'll all them are ultimately based on international reports (but you need to be able to read French) or international news —> the compatibility with free licenses would be easy to establish. --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 12:56, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
To summary all of this, I think you don't understand the difference between information treatment and copy. I treat informations to do my maps and then the copyright is mine. For example, UN reports on opium survey has 160 pages and I only used it for the red flowers on "Segonda Guèrra d'Afganistan". There is no copyright in this and no copy at all and no copyright violation --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 13:44, 1 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

You asked: "Is it a common practice that the administrator who did a blockage answered the appeal?". Yes, that's common. The blocking administrator knows better, why exactly (s)he blocked you, and the closing administrator can believe him/her or not. Taivo (talk) 15:09, 2 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

I am thinking of remaking your Six-Day War map to be in English (and make it somewhat larger). Though I'm wondering what sources you used for the map, as I can't find anything which shows the same things that your map showed. Can you send your sources? File:Guèrra Civila Chinesa (1946-1950).png requires updating edit

Hi Nicolas Eynaud,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed File:Guèrra Civila Chinesa (1946-1950).png is out of date. Northern Arunachal Pradesh is colored in pink in this map, which means, according to the map key, that it was conquered by the Communists in 1950. This is false. Could you update it? Thanks again.
