Notification about possible deletion edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Deletion request edit

Hi. Could you please reply to my query here? --MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:45, 29 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am young and have no dog edit

I see that you recently asked for the file File:I am young and have no dog.jpg to be deleted. Unfortunately, you used a template designed for renames rather than deletions and your request was turned down. I have deleted the file for you on the basis that it is an exact duplicate of the (slightly higher-resolution) file File:I am young and have no dog (100x100cm).jpg. Hope that helps. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 07:48, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much Michael for caring. I noticed there is still another duplicate, which could be deleted from from "Category Erik Pevernagie" https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:One_drink_after_work....jpg . Many thanks for your intervention. Onlysilence (talk) 10:02, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oh yes, I see: File:One drink after work.jpg is a smaller but otherwise identical copy of File:One drink after work....jpg. I'll delete the first file, to leave only the higher-resolution version, then to clean things up I will get rid of the three dots at the end of the filename by renaming it back to File:One drink after work.jpg. So, we'll end up with just one higher-resolution file called File:One drink after work.jpg.--MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:16, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template for new files edit

I have just noticed you uploaded quite a few more images earlier this year. Thanks very much - that's appreciated.

To avoid the problems we had with previous uploads, of people nominating your work for deletion, it would be a good idea to include the so-called OTRS ticket number on each image. The OTRS ticket is a way of proving that you have released the copyright under a free licence, allowing the file to be hosted on Wikimedia Commons. I'd suggest that you copy and past the following for all new files, changing "text" as needed but keeping the rest the same.

 =={{int:filedesc}}==
 {{Information
 |description=
 '''text''', by [[:en:Erik Pevernagie|Erik Pevernagie]] (100 x 100 cm), Oil on canvas.

 text
 |date=text
 |source=Erik Pevernagie
 |author=Erik Pevernagie
 {{PermissionOTRS|id=2014123110008224}}
 |other versions=
 }}

 =={{int:license-header}}==
 {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}

As an example of a file that is OK, see here. The categories appear at the end, in double square brackets. They can by typed manually, but it's best to add then using Hot Cat as you are doing, since that avoids typos.--MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:10, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks, MichaelOnlysilence (talk) 11:29, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adding info to your user page edit

So that everyone knows you have released your images under a free licence, it would be helpful if you could create your user page to included something along the following lines:

This is the user page of Erik Pevernagie editing under the username Onlysilence.

I am the creator and sole owner of the exclusive copyright of my artistic works, for example as illustrated at my website http://www.pevernagie.com, as well as being the photographer and the owner of the corresponding photographic copyright.

I have agree to publish photographs of any of my work (including images already uploaded by users Onlysilence and International-critics) under the free licence Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported.

I have provided permission for all the images that have been uploaded by the users Onlysilence and International-critics and I have licensed photographs of all my works, not just those that have so far been uploaded.

This Permission is being provided personally by me, the artist, and has been registered on the OTRS system under Ticket#2014123110008224.

If any of my work that has been uploaded by Onlysilence or International-critics is missing a permission statement, please feel free to add {{PermissionOTRS|id=2014123110008224}}.

Erik Pevernagie

If you agree, could you add it? Alternatively, let me know here and I can do it for you. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 11:42, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please Michael, if you can do that, it would great, if that avoids al kind of possible and needless collisions.Onlysilence (talk) 11:49, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure,   Done --MichaelMaggs (talk) 12:48, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Muchas gracias!(I am learning a bit!). By the way,Michael, what would be the best way to put a video link from my Wikipedia page to the description of a painting that refers to the video ex Labyrinth of the mind.JPG video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFJcatLyoT8  ?Onlysilence (talk) 14:28, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, not a good idea I'm afraid as Wikipedia does normally not like links out to non-free video or other content. Links to media here on Wikimedia Commons are OK, but the video would not be uploadable here as it does not have a free copyright licence. (By the way, on Wikipedia many people frown on editors editing their own biographies). --MichaelMaggs (talk) 16:49, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Michael

Back from holidays, I thank you for your advice. In the mean time a "factual description" of the paintings has been applied. There is only a little difficulty with the lay-out of : Fear of the white page.jpg , Feeling like a fallen star.jpg ,Waiting_for_the_smoke_signals.jpg, Svp.Arr%C3%AAt_sur_image.jpg

Bots edit

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Whatamidoing,

I am using https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Erik_Pevernagie for the pictures and their description. That is all for the time being. Best regardsOnlysilence (talk) 13:17, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Categories edit

Where is this piece located? It cannot reasonably be in categories Category:New York, Category:Apple Blossom Scenic Drive, Category:San Francisco, Category:Miami, Florida, Category:Los Angeles, California, and Category:New York City. Of these, at most it can be in one for where it is located and also in Category:New York City in art or one of its subcategories for what it represents. I'd like to get it into the appropriate categories, and out of the inappropriate ones. - Jmabel ! talk 05:30, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Jmabel, Thank for your remark. We keep it with New York an NY Art. The other cities were related to because reference was made in the text. Best regards Onlysilence (talk) 07:38, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

What's that? Please keep in mind that COM:Categories are not the same as Flickr tags and should not be overflooded by files that don't appear to clearly have sth. to do with its subject. As it seems, you have added all possible categories to all your uploads. It is clearly violating our policies and makes any research in categories just much more difficult. Please remove them again. Consider it as administrative warning. Thanks --A.Savin 19:09, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Savin,
The philosophical reading of the picture entitled 'Lost dreams" makes reference to each of the persons who have a relationship with this subject. This correlation is made clear in the text which is adjunct to the representation. In this way it adds to the enrichment of the encyclopedic scope of Wikipedia and Commons.
The objective was not so ever, over flooding with categories.
Looking forward to reading you, with kind regards .Onlysilence (talk) 22:30, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry no, you misunderstood the purpose of Commons categories completely. Please read COM:Categories and refrain from enforcing your own theories. I also expect that you remove the flooding from the files included in Category:Erik Pevernagie as there are more than 200 files and it is a hard job for anyone of us, except yourself because you considered it necessary to add all the mess. --A.Savin 22:42, 18 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello, this is your last warning. Please do not add meaningless categories like that. Otherwise, your account may be blocked. Thanks --A.Savin 10:05, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Category:I'm_an_alien_I'm_a_legal_alien edit

Category:I'm_an_alien_I'm_a_legal_alien has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:One could still feel the smell of fear. by Erik Pevernagie.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please check my FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 12:45, 6 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
