Number 8

Why did you remove all number 8 categories? I revert you for example here and here and make this to "8 (house number)". But what is wrong with Cat "8 (number)" in this file ? -- sk (talk) 15:02, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

@Stefan Kühn: I will stop decategorising pictures and I will focus on other stuff instead of decategorising pictures from categories relating to numbers. For some of the images, I couldn't see much relevancy. Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:33, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

I need a bit of help because I am new to Commons and I don't understand some features on here. I am also having a few problems on here. Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:27, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

You are welcome. You can ask me everything about commons. Maybe I can help. --sk (talk) 13:37, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Categories

Might I request instead of recategorizing any images, that you might prefer to edit files which do not have a category at all? We have thousands of those, and it would be super-helpful to have someone looking for something to do take a peek at them. There's almost 320,000 of them in Category:All media needing categories as of 2015 and more elsewhere. Even if you can get them to a top level category, that's a big help. It's almost better not to be too specific in categorizing because think of the end user coming to Commons to find a picture to use. I see all your "need help" tags above... There's great resources in the welcome box at the top of your page, you can ask questions any time in the Village pump (look at left side bar)... When you run out of stuff to read, there's COM:SCOPE and COM:L each with dozens of links! And never hesitate to ask for help. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:15, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Twinkle

{{Helpme}} I would like to have twinkle as a tool but the script has a specific username. Do I change it to my own username? Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:38, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

As you are retired, I removed the helpme tag. If you come out of retirement, just let me know, and I'll help you with Twinkle.   Psiĥedelisto (talk) 10:05, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@Psiĥedelisto: I have came out of retirement. Pkbwcgs (talk) 11:29, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@Pkbwcgs: Welcome back! In that case, all you have to do is click here, edit the page, and paste the code importScript('User:Kanonkas/twinkle.js'); into it. Even though it is in another user's userspace, it will work, because it will import their script into your userspace. Best of all, if they upda the script you will also receive the update. Note, there is a message at the top of COM:Twinkle, it seems like the project may be abandoned, so all of the features of the script may not work properly even if you follow these steps exactly. Psiĥedelisto (talk) 11:36, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@Psiĥedelisto: Thank you! Another question, why isn't twinkle warning anybody? I have a big problem with this and whenever I try to warn someone about their bad edits. Do you know if you can fix this. Pkbwcgs (talk) 11:41, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@Pkbwcgs: Hmm, I had this problem on Wikipedia before, and it turned out to be because of my browser's popup blocker. Try disabling that on *.wikimedia.org and *.wikipedia.org and see if it makes a difference. If that doesn't work, I don't know, but if you manually go to the user's talk page you can click the "Warn" button and somehow Twinkle usually remembers the name of the page that was vandalized that you are warning about. (P.S. Thanks for the barnstar!) Psiĥedelisto (talk) 02:12, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@Psiĥedelisto: I have allowed pop-ups on this website but it is still not working. Whenever I try to warn a user, it keeps saying User talk page modification: resolving eventual redirect. Where is this message coming from? Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:34, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

@Pkbwcgs: I'm sorry, I don't know, and Google results in nothing. I also have a help request on my homepage, and I haven't been able to get an answer for it (and it's something that isn't marked "abandoned"). You can try to ask at Commons talk:Twinkle or maybe even COM:HD, but be prepared for a wait...Psiĥedelisto (talk) 02:40, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Is this Paddington station?

I am not sure if this picture is showing Paddington station but it is placed in Category:Paddington station. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:11, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Yes this is Paddington station the image shows one of the old taxi ramps to the west of the trainshed. Oxyman (talk) 20:53, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Class 444 or Class 170?

I am not sure if the train in the picture is a Class 444 or a Class 170. It is currently placed in Category:British Rail Class 170s of South West Trains. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:47, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Clearly not a 170 as they have double doors, so I changed the category to Class 444. If you are reasonably sure a mistake has been made you can of course just change the cat Oxyman (talk) 21:00, 7 March 2017 (UTC).

New Categories

Hi Pkbwcgs, thanks for your edits to commons, Just to say that it's best not to use the "autocat" template when creating the sort of categories you are creating. It is really for maintenance categories Oxyman (talk) 20:51, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Please stop renaming my files fGWR to GWR

When I upload a file with "fGWR" in the title it is there for a reason - to identify trains in first Great Western Railway livery as opposed to the new Great Western Railway livery. Please stop renaming them. Geof Sheppard (talk) 08:21, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Please delete this following userspace as it is not required anymore. I have moved everything to a monthly archiving page. Therefore, I don't need this page any more. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:38, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

@Geof Sheppard: I don't understand why you reverted my edit as I have actually corrected the grammar. I simply changed call to calls and I have used the correct grammar. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:30, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, but you made a mistake with this. The captions describes a pair of units calling at the station, and in English a plural subject takes 'call' whereas a singular subject takes 'calls'.
  • Chris calls at George's
  • Chris and Alex call at George's

Class 375, Class 465 or Class 466?

Here is a Class 375 in Connex Stripe livery which is meant for reference to this discussion.

Here is a Class 466 in Connex Stripe livery which is meant for reference to this discussion.

I am not sure if the train in this image is a Class 375, Class 376, Class 465 or Class 466. It is not placed in a category with a class number. However, I wouldn't say it is a Class 375 or Class 376 as they are both fully white and the train in this picture has a grey stripe but I am not 100% sure. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:28, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

According to my research, I am definitely sure that it is either a Class 465 or Class 466. However, I can't able to decide between the two. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:32, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Just seen the request for help at the Village Pump - I'll raise it at en:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Railways, as there's usually someone there who knows about these things. Optimist on the run (talk) 13:04, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
@Optimist on the run: I can knock out Class 376 as it has different doors to the Class 375. However, there are a few clues to this picture. This could be a Class 375 as it has similar type of doors or it could be a Class 465/466. Looking at the date of this picture, I have a feeling that this is a Class 465 in Connex stripe livery because looking at the type of stripe this picture has, it look like a train in Connex stripe livery. However, the Class 375 and the Class 465/466 are still providing services with trains that are still in the old-fashioned Connex stripe livery. I am not sure what class this train is but according to the clues in the picture, this train is definitely not a Class 376 and the train is in Connex stripe livery. It belongs in either: Category:British Rail Class 375s in Connex grey stripe livery, Category:British Rail Class 465s in Connex grey stripe livery or Category:British Rail Class 466s in Connex grey stripe livery. I have put recent pictures of Class 375, Class 465 and Class 466 in Connex stripe livery for your reference. I hope this information and the clues in the picture helps! Asking help

It seems that you are asking help in your talk page, and I don't recommend that, since not most of the active users here watch your talk page. I recommend you to ask help at Commons:Village pump or Commons:Help desk. For admin assistance, ask help at COM:AN/U for a problem with a user, COM:AN/B or COM:AN/P for requesting blocks and protections, COM:AN/V for vandalism, and COM:AN for others. Code issues in User:Pkbwcgs/common.js

Hi Pkbwcgs, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Pkbwcgs/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Is this a Night Riviera train?

I would like to know if the train in this picture is a Night Riviera train ( First Great Western's sleeper train form London Paddington to Penzance ). It is currently placed in the Category:Night Riviera. Could you please check this. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:30, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

It is two of the coaches used in the Night Riveira. It's an old picture so shows older Mark 2 coaches in the Great western Trains livery so they look very different to the coaches used today. Geof Sheppard (talk) 08:40, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
