Block for sockpuppetEdit

Daripulauriau25 (talk · contribs) was reported as a sockpuppet of FishMara on enwiki (w:en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FishMara). The timings between when this user uploaded the image and when it was added 12 hours later to the now deleted draft by an account which had made no edits since September (w:en:User:Phyu Aung Myint - no local commons account) suspicious. I would have blocked this user on enwiki if they had a local account, as the timings are suspiciously close.
Why I'm reporting the account for a block on commons is because a number of the accounts CU confirmed to FishMara on enwiki in October 2019, were blocked and confirmed here too (see Category:Sockpuppets of Carsson Tan). Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 23:04, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Recommending semi-protection for File:QarabaghWarMap(2020).svg, similar to File:Syrian Civil War map.svg. There has been some edit conflicts, accuracy issues and possible canvassing occurring with the file. Thanks!--WMrapids (talk) 15:10, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Not done Semi-protection wouldn't prevent upload-warring, as (auto)confirmed is already required to overwrite a file. Looking at the description page history, I don't see any recent non-autoconfirmed edit warring. Therefore, I see no benefit to semi-protection. If counter-productive edit warring does start, feel free to make a new request in that case. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:25, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
(the protected file)

I'd like to ask how editors will be able to update the map from now on. Administrators have fully protected the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict map for a month due to vandalism. This map changes daily and sometimes multiple times a day. Will I be able request administrators to change the file here for example? HersiliaAramazd (talk) 19:14, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Special:Diff/498880428. If any admin wants to change the protection, please feel free to do so. -- CptViraj (talk) 03:50, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Gone ahead and marked this map as needing a source for the original work. The underpinning data is huge, a user did not just make this up, it was either imported from somewhere else that has not been declared, or it was carefully traced in fine detail from an image of a map, perhaps a scanned map.

On a technical point, the file includes sodipodi:docname="QarabaghWarMap(2020) (4).svg", but it's unclear how old the first version was and there's no obvious licensing statement inside the code. -- (talk) 19:55, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

We have had to go to a DR Commons:Deletion requests/File:QarabaghWarMap(2020).svg as it only took 17 minutes for the source tag to be blanked. This DR is significantly different to the recently closed one, as it is purely about verifying copyright of the original work. -- (talk) 20:06, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/Jayden_angel_Cubano and Special:Contributions/Jayden_A_CubanoEdit

This user has used 2 accounts to repeatedly add captions to images of celebrities, listing their roles in superhero films, even though the images have no connection to the films. He also frequently adds puzzling depiction data to the images. His edits have been reverted by me and other editors and I have repeatedly warned him on his talk page, explaining that captions must relate to what is actually shown in the images. But he persists. I don't know whether a block or a more authoritative warning/explanation from an administrator is called for, but this user just does not seem to get what's going on at Commons. -- WikiPedant (talk) 02:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

✓ Done. I blocked the Angel indefinitely as sockpuppet. Taivo (talk) 16:17, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Uploading unfree files after warning. 轻语者 (talk) 14:39, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Not done No uploads since the final warning on 20 October 2020, with the exception of File:Txik Txak mapa.svg. I don't see a reason to delete that file. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:13, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
Gone ahead and marked that map as an unsourced derived work. The SVG is mostly made of an encoded image which has no source. It's surprisingly easy to license wash images using the SVG format, and folks will presume own work claims are valid with no evidence. -- (talk) 19:22, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
@: I tagged it as {{Fakesvg}} for you, but {{Badsvg}} might be better.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 05:43, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
To be fair, that's probably over-egging the problem. However having spent some time trying to create a version without the embedded image, and being unable to do it without my editor crashing, it's not been possible to create and view just the user added lines and text to see what the difference is.
If the uploader could do that, to justify keeping a version, that would be super; otherwise we ought to default to the precautionary principle -- (talk) 11:37, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Dixit kalal002Edit

Would someone mind blocking Dixit kalal002. I'm 99% certain this is just the latest sock from Jagdeep singh bittu. Everything they've uploaded (and 99% of everything from prior socks) are copyright infringements, usually Facebook or Instagram. New account day after day after day. Please review and if there are better long-term options out there, I'd love to hear. Given the time it takes to check each image, this is getting tiresome. Cannot post a picture to the Commons monthly challengeEdit

I am a registered user, indeed I registered many years ago, though Wiki seems to have forgotten about it, and yet I cannot post a photo on the Commons monthly photo challenge, apparently because it's protected from me. The October challenge ends in 5 days. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yefims (talk • contribs) 03:23, 27 October 2020‎ (UTC)

@Yefims: Hi, and welcome. Which upload URL were you using, and which error message(s) did you receive? Also, what was your old username?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:40, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Offensive abuse from User:Anuragjha17Edit

  • Reason for report: Personal abuse to me on my talk page see here due to the minor role I had in exposing undisclosed paid editing. Contrastingly, the abuse was left directly below the detailed advice I left for them, after my first dealing with them, as I was genuinely trying to be helpful. Unfortunately their article on Wikipedia has just been deleted and they have chosen to backlash against me.

Although the abuse was left by the above user, the aforementioned advice was with one of their now proven sock puppets:

Please see the Wikipedia SPI here. These sock puppet accounts are also on Commons along with:

They are blocked on Wikipedia which is probably why abuse has come here. Please consider whether this abuse now shows they should be similarly dealt with here? Many thanks. Crep1711 (talk) 06:39, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
