Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:40, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:StanMeissnerPortrait.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. File:Christopherwrayportrait.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Copyright violations
edit
Hello Countrymaster.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

File tagging File:Hadley2008.jpg
editThis media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Hadley2008.jpg.
Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Hadley2008.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Unblock requested 23 December 2022
editApology's to moderators and admins for this. Countrymaster (talk) 17:24, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - This is your fourth (!!!) block. That you somehow managed to miss a) all three previous blocks, b) the numerous warnings above, and c) the guidance of the UploadWizard (it is impossible to upload copyvios of the sort you did if the questions are answered truthfully--you misrepresented yourself to be the author nearly every time, and lied about licensing status every time) strains credulity. If that is genuinely the position you wish to take, it would suggest you so lacking in perception, care, or competence as to be unable to edit productively. This request, of course, does not offer an understanding of the issue or credible commitment to discontinue. Эlcobbola talk 18:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Understood it. Countrymaster (talk) 18:13, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Countrymaster: there are currently three undeleted images that you have uploaded: File:General der Fallschirmjäger Kurt Student.jpg, File:Netherlandsmap.png, and File:Hadley2008.jpg. Which of these are acceptable and comply with our licence policy and why? —Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 19:02, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- ""I was not aware of the amount of warnings"" almost whole page are filled with warnings. im against unblocking. however, im supporting another unblocking discussion, and it should be much much later(maybe 6 months later?). and this is admins choice and im suggesting this. ----modern_primat ඞඞඞ TALK 19:04, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion
editSome contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Yours sincerely, Enyavar (talk) 23:55, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
The request is very vague. Which rules will you adhere in the future? How do you do that? Taivo (talk) 11:15, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- I meant when editing pages and articles my problem was i usually used images coming from copyright sources which I will refrain from in the future.
- Also with editing articles in the future I will be more careful when citing and researching sources first before posting. Countrymaster (talk) 20:05, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- How do you make difference between copyrighted and non-copyrighted images? How will you be more careful? Taivo (talk) 10:08, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- For example when approved I will no longer use images taken straight from the web such as google or other search sites but will try to use my own as possible. Countrymaster (talk) 10:17, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- So I meant as in taking my own. Countrymaster (talk) 10:20, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Take in account this account was taken 14 years ago when i was still young and pretty careless so had no clue back in the day. Countrymaster (talk) 10:29, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Please reavaluate. Countrymaster (talk) 10:30, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
