SDSS images edit

Recently several different images being marked SDSS were withdrawn from Wikicommon at your equest and the requests for withdrawal continuous. I think that these retrais and these requests are unjustified. Indeed, here the introduction of the text of the policy of use of SDSS images : “ Any SDSS image on the SDSS Web site may be downloaded, linked to, or otherwise used for non-commercial purposes, provided that you agree to the following conditions:...”. None the images which I downloaded on Wikicommon and being marked SDSS were published by Sloan Digital Sky Survey on their Web site or elsewhere. I personally produced these images starting from the public files of data in FITS format made available by SDSS to the scientific community. The policy of use of images SDSS thus does not apply to these images since they are not images produced by this organization. I thus ask you to give these images on Wikicommon and please stop your request of delation. Another think, you sometime confuse DSS image with SDSS. Excuse, my english, Thank you and have a good day --Donald Pelletier (talk) 02:58, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, wikipedia's policy requires that provided image are not exclusively non-commercial. If you've got an issue, I'd probably take it up with someone more qualified. All I did was attract attention to them. 03:08, 29 December 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Exoplanetaryscience (talk • contribs) 03:08, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I would like to claim fair use on this image. It illustrates the realistic color of the comet in a manner which any other freely available image is able to do, even if the difference is not inherently obvious. Although it could be debated against, I cite a similar example: there is an existing CC image of Haumea, although the Keck image would be kept for illustrating its moons in a manner that another free image can not. Thanks for uploading File:JAXA-Ryugu-June-10.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Update of Solar cycle 24 sunspot number progression and prediction.gif edit

Hi Exoplanetarysciencem, are you going to update this file or is there already a file fore cycle 25 available? Regards Bert (talk) 17:16, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yep, there's a File:Solar Cycle 25 prediction and progression.png file already, so I didn't figure the SC24 file needed updating beyond where the cycle ended. Exoplanetaryscience (talk) 20:17, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Solar activity plot (sunspots) edit

You created(?) this nice plot, is it possible to update it? File:Solar cycle 24 sunspot number progression and prediction.gif Eheran (talk) 07:58, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Eheran: : See my above message; I haven't been updating it since solar cycle 24 has ended, and there's now a solar cycle 25 file. I can update it nonetheless, but what exactly needs updating? Exoplanetaryscience (talk) 17:08, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The real data ends on august 2020. Hence there are a many more months of actual data available now, almost till the (current) end of the x-axis, which should go to something like 2030.
If you give me the raw data I can do this myself. Like I did here: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Hard_drive_capacity_over_time.svg Eheran (talk) 13:28, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh wait, you mean every cycle has its own diagram and hence no more update on this graph. Okay, got it. I would prefer to see more data, like +-1 cycle, but that is just me. Never mind then. Wherever I saw this graph should soon be replaced by cycle 25. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eheran (talk • contribs) 13:31, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
