Overcategorisation
Please note, that as described in COM:OVERCAT, files don't need to repeat the categories from their parent categories. Thank you. --Foroa (talk) 16:37, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- I think I missed at the time that your earlier edit [1] had added the parent category, but I will keep that in mind. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:48, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 20:42, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Midnight Sun and Night in Alaska
Hi Beeblebrox
I only added a one or two images to Midnight Sun; I would have agreed with your definition but some of the the contents of the category argued otherwise. Following the example of what was there, and the photographer's description, the Homer bar seemed to fit. If I did another I forget which for now. [Looks like just the one - Prudehoe Bay 1975 was already there.] We could create a subcat "Photographs illuminated by midnight sun" or some such.
As should be obvious, I was often classifying by visual clues. Where description did not say time, I went by visual appearance of the sky and tried to be conservative in my judgements. I included twilight images as well as unambiguous night, intending to split out subcats later. For urban subjects, if the building lights were on and it looked like artificial light would be needed outdoors, I included the image. The prolonged subarctic twilight is a real phenomenon and makes for some gorgeous pictures. If you have reason to disagree with particulars, feel free to revert, or start a twilight or dusk category. If you feel we need some formal time window, make a proposal. Dankarl (talk) 20:20, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
File tagging File:Laroucheobamahitler.JPG
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Laroucheobamahitler.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
Batch nominations
You'll have to nominate all the files, not just the category for deletion, sort of like our CfD vs AfD. You can do that easily using Help:VisualFileChange.js, either copy to your common.js or try it one off using that button, you can nominate all files or a selection of files from an uploader/in a category via that. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:49, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip. I tried it, but I must have screwed something up as it only nominated 25 or so instead of all 190+. And I have to go pretty much right now for most of the rest of the day. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:54, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

AN/U
Just to be clear, I wasn't 'yelling at you', but just attempting to somewhat circumvent what seemed likely to become an unreadable mess of arguments about specific categories and 'how much' intersection is okay. Reventtalk 08:34, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
- I get that, I was basically trying to do the same thing, but thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 11:03, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

question about Category:Store railway wagons
So that there is no confusion about the category, I asked for it to be renamed. Altona (talk) 10:18, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
Important message for file movers
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Identity?
Hi Beeblebrox - File:Lupine on St. George by Laney White USFWS.jpg (with leaves with 5-8 leaflets) does not appear to be Lupinus polyphyllus (leaves with 9-15 leaflets). My best guess is Lupinus nootkatensis, but I'm not sure if there might be other possible species in that area. Any thoughts yourself? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 00:03, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- I can't say I recall with any specificity how I concluded it was that particular species. Having looked at pictures of both I am inclined to agree with you. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:51, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll go with L. nootkatensis, then - MPF (talk) 01:01, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
