Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Popisy fotografií edit

Zdravím. Uvádějte, prosím, je-li to možné, přesnější popisy fotografií, aby bylo možné poznat, kde byly pořízeny a co na nich je. Například u fotografií File:Blanice 01.jpg a File:Blanice 03.jpg není vůbec uvedeno, ze kterého místa fotografie jsou (tato řeka Blanice je dlouhá 95 kilometrů) a u fotografie File:Blanice 02.jpg je dohledání lokalizace spojeno s takřka detektivním pátráním (najít silnici III/14136, když veřejný rejstřík silnic III. třídy není on-line dostupný, a na nich najít mosty s těmito evidenčními čísly, k čemuž běžné mapy nestačí a veřejná mapa IZS nyní nefunguje - naštěstí tu máme Google a OpenStreetMap). Ideální je uvádět alespoň souřadnice pomocí šablony {{Location}}, podle nich už se pak většinou dá dodatečně dohledat příslušnost k obci, popřípadě popisná čísla domů či identifikace jiných objektů. --ŠJů (talk) 21:33, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Poloha rybníka edit

Ahoj, prosím o identifikaci místa, kde je focen rybník File:Trocnov 03.jpg – narazila jsem na něj při kategorizaci rybníků v okrese ČBu. Fotky je navíc dobré popisovat přesněji, a to jak v názvu, tak v popisku, tedy nikoli jen jako zde "Trocnov 03.jpg". s popiskem "Trocnov". Dost těžko se pak identifikuje, o co jde, když tam není ani GPS lokalizace... Tím spíše, je-li fotografie součástí projektu Wikiexpedice. Jak je vidět u fotek jiného účastníka, jde to dost dobře. Podobně jsou Tvé fotky bohužel (ne)popsány v hodně případech... Děkuji za pochopení, --Czeva (talk) 14:35, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

A ještě jeden se stejné kategorie rybníků - tam sice GPS je, ale vede na nesmyslné místo ve vsi, kde žádný rybník poblíž není (aspoň ne tolik, aby mohl být fotograf tak blízko, jak byl). Popisek zase nepopisuje a název rozhodně nepomůže (přestože WE Jih byla součástí projektu Fotíme Česko, kde se pravidla názvů a popisků přesně stanovují), nesmyslnou čárku v popisu fotky jsem odmazala. To samé komplet platí i o další fotografii. Předem díky za doplnění u obou. Vím, že je z WE fotek strašně moc, ale s tím do toho účastníci jdou - nebo radš nejdou, jako např. já :-) --Czeva (talk) 15:07, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Podle časové sekvence v lokalitě Trocnov, bych typoval, že se jedná o jeden z menších nepojmenovaných rybníků v lokalitě Žižkova rodiště nedaleko současné vsi Trocnov. Juandev (talk) 15:09, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ahoj, je to tak, jak píše Juan - byla jsem tam vyložena během WE a přecházela úsek pěšky. Nemám chytrý telefon, tak automaticky nemám přesnou GPS lokalizaci.:-( Ale chytrý mobil si kvůli tomu pořizovat nechci. :-)KKDAII (talk) 19:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

V kategorii Category:Nová Ves (Chyšky) jsem objevil i tvoje fotky datované na 21. dubna 2019. My jsme to tam s Tadeášem fotili již 19. a tak dumám nad tím, jestli ty tvoje fotky, nepatří jinam. Protože 21. dubna si fotila Novou Ves (Dol), ale tam podle map zase není rybník. Mohla by ses na to kouknout, co to skutečně je? Kdyžtak se to pak bude muset opravit i na Wikidatech, kam jstem to už nandal. Juandev (talk) 14:49, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Vážení, zkoušeli jsme s partnerem během našeho výletu mobilní aplikaci Wikishoot me i její českou alternativu a jejich praktičnost při nahrávání nováčkem. Obě se ale pro rychlé nahrání fotografie v terénu ukázaly jako nevhodné, jak vidno z detekce AntiCompositeBot. Partner coby znalec se pokusil nahrát fotografii alternativním způsobem, což bylo časově náročné. A přesto to nevyhovovalo. Myslím, že chybí rychlý a praktický způsob pro nahrávání fotografií mobilním telefonem. S dvěma malými dětmi opravdu není čas 5 minut nahrávat jednu jedinou fotografii.
