Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Flickr images

If you upload a flickr image, please give the exact flickr link to an image like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mercyforanimals/6556757385/in/set-72157628531396063/

Don't give a flickr link to a flickr set or the flickr bot will not pass the image....and it ends up in this Category. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:50, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Overcategorising

Dear Liconstan, thank you for your contributions. They have for the most part been very useful. However I'd like to point out that the categorisation system we use here at WM Commons is not a tag system but a hierarchial category tree system. This is to keep higher level, more general categories from being overcrowded with tons and tons of heterogenic material. The most important thing to keep in mind is to not add any categories that are (or should be) supercategories to others for the same picture/category. The image previously had Category:Gestation crates after which you added the following:

1. Category: Factory farming
2. Category: Pigs
3. Category: Farms
4. Category: Agriculture
5. Category: Agribusiness
6. Category: Agriculture with animals
7. Category: Livestock
8. Category: Domesticated animals
9. Category: Agriculture by type
10. Category: Veterinary science
11. category: Veterinary medicine
12. Category: Animal welfare
13. Category: Human use of animals

I removed all of these, with the following logic:

• Domesticated animals, Livestock, Pigs, Agriculture with animals, Agriculture, Human use of animals -- Gestation crates is exclusive to pig farming, which is subcat to Pigs, which is subcat to Livestock etc. Pig farming is also subcat to agriculture with animals, which is a subcat to agriculture and human use of animals.
• Agriculture by type -- this is a metacat, i.e. is only supposed to hold other categories and no files. A sow in a gestation crate is not a type of agriculture, but a feature of factory farming, which in turn is a type of agriculture.
• Agribusiness, factory farming -- agribusiness is concerned with the business of food production. Gestation crate is a method of pig farming and not directly related to food production on a business level. It is also a subcat to factory farming, itself a subcat to agribusiness.
• Farms -- a gestation crate is not a farm
• Animal welfare -- gestation crates is already a subcat of controversial animal use, which is subcat to animal welfare
• Veterinary science -- I don't even understand why this was added
• Veterinary medicine -- very flimsy connection -- gestation crates may be unhealthy to sows, but that is not grounds to categorise it.
