Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

The word "attitudes" is used in a somewhat non-English way in that image... AnonMoos 21:53, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's not really what would be called an "attitude" at all in the English language, but rather the formal legal position of religion in within each country's government according to official documents. AnonMoos 15:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Please tag your images edit
Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

Image Image:Konniehuq.jpg: Allowed edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Konniehuq.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 14:49, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Be aware that "permission to use on Wikipedia" is actually not sufficient for an image to be hosted here, and moreover that would not make the image public domain. We need a statement of a specific free license, allowing anyone to use the image for any purpose. --dave pape (talk) 14:53, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- The process is explained in the links above. If you have an e-mail from them that clearly says they release it under a free license, forward that to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. If not, contact them again, using the e-mail templates as examples of what needs to be said. Mail sent to permissions-commons will be read and responded to by OTRS volunteers, who will be able to help make sure everything is okay. You can add a {{Otrs pending}} tag to the image page while this is being done, to put off speedy deletion. --dave pape (talk) 15:04, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Curious; looks like he's doing the e-mailing. Well, it will still need a proper OTRS tag; I've added the "pending" notice so it's not completely forgotten. --dave pape (talk) 15:12, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Copyright violations edit
Hello TheGreenEditor,
You have uploaded several images that are copyright violations and you have done so despite our requests not to do so, and despite our instructions. If you do not stop uploading pictures that are not free, your account will be blocked. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. Yann (talk) 16:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello, you wrote "the holder held some rights reserved, but allowed to distributed and make works of the work." Well that's not sufficient for Commons. The photographer needs to allow to use the image for any purpose, including commercial works. It's the same for the image Syedahmed.JPG above. Please follow the instructions at COM:OTRS. If you have a problem with OTRS, please ask, I can help you. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Under that specific license of which the work was released at it, the content can be: to use commercially, to modify, adapt, or build upon. The work can be used on Wikipedia: Some rights reserved CC-BY-SA OK Link of image: [1] Moshin (talk) 18:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I was asked about it on czech wikipedia when i add the image there. Thx in advance :-) --Mozzan (talk) 15:30, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Please link images edit
Hello TheGreenEditor!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thanks for uploading Image:Sheikh Hasina Hethrow.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:Image:Sheikh Hasina Hethrow.JPG]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

serious image concerns edit
A couple of your images, while nicely presented, have some sourcing issues which need to be addressed. Your classification of "common" versus "prevalent" hearing of the hijab is a hard case to make, unless you have third party sources which compare nations. Might you just change them all to "common"? I'm thinking for instance of the classification of Senegal, Burkina, Algeria, and Nigeria as "common" but Mali and Niger as "prevalent". My experience makes me think this is incorrect. If anything, the Hijab is much more common in Northern Niger than Niger, and certainly more than in Mali. In short, It's good to have references for these sorts of charts used in Wikipedia, just as you must for written statements.
Second, the Muslim constitutional map (Above) is incorrect as it relates to Niger. Article 136 in the 1999 constitution declares the state secular and renders such provisions un-revisable. Your distinction between "Muslim state" and "Islam as State Religion" seems problematic at first blush, especially in south asia. In short, I would suggest the same fix: please provide references which share the classification system you use, or provide a more vague categorization, also referenced.
Your work and intent seem admirable, and I wish you the best of luck. T L Miles (talk) 07:08, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- The hijab world map image was not created by me but by another user who didnt provide the image with sources, but I have tried to add sources to the image, so I am not quite sure where the creater found these information from. The references for the constitution Muslim map can be found at List of Muslim majority countries. TheGreenEditor (talk) 11:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Bangladesh Hindu population - Upazillawise. edit
Hi, do you have the population data used for Bangladesh_Hindu_Map.png which shows subdistrict wise Hindu population with you? I would like to construct a combined Hindu% map for India, Nepal, SL, Bangladesh & Pakistan. Thanks. Anand
I noticed that you left out the "Don't know" category. Honestly, I think that is not a good idea, because "Don't know" could be a sign of agnosticism, which should not be left out. Could you update the graph with the category "DK" included? --Wwwdigi (talk) 20:33, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called TheGreenEditor. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name TheGreenEditor~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
