You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

 

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

以前にもファイルへのカテゴリ追加についてお知らせがあったと思います。

Oka21000さんは近鉄の車両の画像をアップロードする際、カテゴリ欄に「近鉄」と入れておられますが、

ウィキメディア・コモンズでは世界中でファイルを利用できることを目的としているため、全てのカテゴリは英語名によるものが推奨されており、

近鉄の場合も、基本的にほぼ全ての形式を網羅した形式ごとのカテゴリが既にあります。

例えば、21020系アーバンライナーnextの場合、「Category:Kintetsu 21020 series」、5820系の場合「Category:Kintetsu 5820 series」といった具合です。

また、大抵の場合、日本語版wikipediaの各車両形式の記事の末尾、外部リンクの下あるいは右脇の所には

「ウィキメディア・コモンズには、近鉄21020系電車に関連するカテゴリがあります。」といった表示があり、

そのリンク先のカテゴリページがその車両の画像を入れるべきカテゴリとなります。

Oka21000さんが投稿される近鉄車両の画像は日本語版wikipedia上においてたいへん有意義なものですが、

これら画像は各国版のwikiプロジェクトでも使用可能となるものですから、この点に注意して画像の投稿をお願いいたします。

はじめまして。Oka21000です。この度はご教授ありがとうございました。

以後気をつけたく思います。

ところで、カテゴリ名に「KINTETSU」と記載することは出来ないのでしょうか？

21020系だけのカテゴリでは非常に狭く感じるのですが・・・。

5800系も2610系もその他もろもろの車両もKINTETSUとタイプすれば画像の一覧が表示される方が便利な気もしますが。

それともやはり「ウィキメディア・コモンズには、近鉄21020系電車に関連するカテゴリがあります。」の記載に則り「Category:Kintetsu 21020 series」とするべきでしょうか？

  • 返事が遅くなり失礼いたしました。たしかに投稿した画像が1カテゴリにのみ収められるというのは検索に手間がかかり、一覧の方が便利に思われる気持ちももっともかと思います。初見の方にはCategory:Kinki Nippon Railwayで表示されるページに掲載される画像の方が目立つと思いますし。しかしながらご存じの通り近鉄は車両、駅、路線ともきわめて膨大な規模に上り、すべてにKINTSTSUのカテゴリを与えていては分類が意味をなさなくなってしまうんです。コモンズでは標準の設定では1ページあたり200ファイルが表示されるのですが、これまでに寄せられた近鉄の画像は当然それより遥かに多く、1つのメイン・カテゴリのページが画像ファイルのみで埋め尽くされてしまい、却って閲覧、検索には不便になってしまうんですよ。表示もファイル名の名前順ですから、必ずしも車種や駅の画像が整理された順に表示される訳でもありませんし。したがって窮屈に感じられるでしょうが、あくまで一車種の画像は一カテゴリに収めるよう、ご協力をお願いします。なお、車両の画像に撮影した駅のカテゴリを追加するのはむしろ有用ですから、車種だけのカテゴリでは窮屈と感じる場合はCategory:Kintetsu 21020 seriesにCategory:Osaka Uehommachi Station(例:上本町駅で撮影した場合)などと適宜追加してください。再びご理解のほどをよろしくお願いします。--掬茶 (talk) 23:28, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

まず、上で掬茶さんもご説明くださっていますが、ファイルにはなるべくそのテーマに沿った特定のカテゴリを付けるようにしてください。たとえば、現在 File:KINTETSU NAGOYA STA 20131231A.jpg に付いているカテゴリは Category:Kinki Nippon Railway ですが、近鉄名古屋駅については専用のカテゴリ Category:Kintetsu Nagoya Station が存在しますので、こちらを付けていただくほうが有用です。また、カテゴリは 1 つだけしか付けられないということはありませんので、この例ではさらに Category:Train station platforms in Japan や Category:Kintetsu 12200 series, Category:Kintetsu 22000 series といったカテゴリも加えるとよいでしょう。このようにできるだけ細分化されたカテゴリ付与をすることで、特定のテーマに関するファイルを探している人が目的のファイルを見つけやすくなったり、また上位カテゴリ（この場合は Category:Kinki Nippon Railway）内が多数のファイルで溢れてしまうことも防ぐことができます。ご理解いただければと思います。

それから、Oka21000 さんのファイルページは 1 行の説明のみのものが多く見受けられますが、ファイルの説明は {{Information}} テンプレートを使用して記述することが奨励されていますので、あわせてお知らせします。このテンプレートを使うことで、日本語設定であれば日本語、英語設定であれば英語と、閲覧者の設定に応じた言語で撮影日時や出典などが表示されるようになります。そうすると日本語話者以外の利用者にも分かりやすくなりますので、結果として日本語以外のウィキメディアプロジェクトでもそのファイルが使用される機会が増えるかもしれません。このテンプレートは、通常はファイルをアップロードする際に説明文の欄内に自動的に入力された状態になっていますので、そのまま必要事項を記入していただければ大丈夫です。こちらもぜひご協力のほどお願いします。Yasu (talk) 14:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

ご理解いただきありがとうございます。お尋ねの件ですが、上記の Category:Kinki Nippon Railway の下に Category:Stations of Kintetsu という近鉄の駅全体を取りまとめるカテゴリが存在し、またその下に Category:Stations of Kintetsu Nagoya Line など線区別に分類されたカテゴリ、さらにその下に Category:Kintetsu Nagoya Station といった個別の駅カテゴリがあるという階層構造になっています（この階層構造は近鉄の駅カテゴリに限らず、コモンズのカテゴリ全般に共通する仕組みです）。この法則を覚えておいていただければ、○○駅の画像をアップロードする際にその○○駅のカテゴリを探すのも容易になるかと思います。
ただし、小さな駅で関連画像がまだ少ない場合など、専用のカテゴリが存在しないこともあります。大三駅のカテゴリも現時点では作られていません。この場合、大三駅は大阪線の所属ですので、Category:Stations of Kintetsu Osaka Line が最も細分化されたカテゴリになります。ですので、もし大三駅の画像をアップロードされる場合は、差し当たりここに入れていただければ結構です。また、可能であれば所在地のカテゴリ（この例では Category:Train stations in Tsu, Mie）も付け加えてあればよいと思います。同じカテゴリに入っている他のファイルをごらんいただくと、どんなカテゴリを付ければよいかの参考になるでしょう。

既存ファイルの上書きアップロードについて edit

Yasu です。今回は首記の件でお願いがあり参上しました。

投稿記録を拝見しますと、File:上社JCT.JPG, File:上社JCT2.JPG や File:有松IC B.JPG など、既存の画像ファイルを別の画像で更新（上書き）するという編集を何回か行っておいでのようですが、コモンズではガイドラインにより上書きアップロードは原則として不可となっています。画像の上書きができるのは、基本的には明るさ・色調などの変更、若干のトリミングといった軽微な修正を、同じ画像に対して行った場合に限られます。別の画像の場合、たとえ同じ被写体を同じ場所で撮影したものであっても、同じファイル名でアップロード（上書き）することはお控えください。例外的に、最初の画像をアップロードした直後の上書きであれば別画像であっても許される場合があります（間違って本来のファイルとは別のものをアップロードしてしまった場合などの救済措置）が、左記ファイルはいずれも最初のアップロードより数か月経ってからの上書きであり、該当しないように思われます。

もし今後、同一の被写体で現行の画像よりも優れた別画像をアップロードする場合は、上書きではなく別ファイルとしてアップロードしてください。コモンズでは方針に合致するファイルでさえあれば受け入れが可能であり、ファイル数の上限などが設定されているわけではないので、同じ被写体の画像がどれだけ増えても特段の問題はありません。なお、別画像で上書きされたファイルは、{{Split}} をファイルページに貼ることで、管理者に分割の依頼ができます。私も該当するファイルを見つけ次第貼るようにしますが、Oka21000 さんもお心当たりのあるファイルがあればできるだけご自身で作業していただければと思います。ご理解のほどよろしくお願いします。

なお、今回対象にしているのはあくまで「別画像による上書き」の場合であり、先述の通り「同一画像に対して軽微な修正を行った上での上書き」については特に問題視しておりません。詳細については上記ガイドラインをご一読いただき、ご不明な点があればお尋ねください。Yasu (talk) 15:04, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

ご理解いただきありがとうございます。ファイルをウィキペディアに直接アップロードする場合は、ウィキペディアの記事で使用することが前提となりますから、その場合はご心配ももっともですが、コモンズのファイルはウィキメディアの利用者でない一般のユーザにも開放されており、上書きでなく別ファイルとしてアップロードすることは選択肢を増やすことにつながりますので、そのような懸念は無用かと思います。また、（あくまで一般論ですが）上書き前の画像のほうが良かったという場合もあるかもしれませんし、ウィキペディアの編集者にとっても害になるというわけではないでしょう。
なお蛇足ながら、同一画像に軽微な修正を加えたものであれば上書きしても可、と申し上げましたが、これはあくまで軽微な修正の場合であって、たとえば画像上に文字による説明を書き加えたものや、被写体の一部を切り抜いて拡大するといった大幅なトリミングなどは、画像の性質が大きく変わってしまうため「軽微な修正」には該当しません。その場合はやはり別ファイルとしてアップロードする必要がありますのでご注意ください。それでは、今後とも多くのファイルをご提供いただけますよう、よろしくお願いいたします。Yasu (talk) 14:58, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

書き漏らしていましたが、コモンズとウィキペディアでは屋外美術作品に関する取扱いが異なるため、上記に該当するファイルでもウィキペディア日本語版へアップロードすることは可能です。コモンズにアップロードする場合と違い、英語など他言語版のウィキペディアや、ウィキニュースなどの他プロジェクトでそのファイルを使用することはできませんが、ウィキペディア日本語版だけの使用でよいということであれば、そちらへのアップロードをご検討いただければと思います。ただし、Wikipedia:屋外美術を被写体とする写真の利用方針のルールに従うことが条件となり、解像度（ピクセルサイズ）の縮小、そのファイルに関連する記事で使用することを前提とする（アップロードだけして記事に貼らないのは認められない）などの規定をお守りいただく必要がありますので、あらかじめご承知ください。
なお、今回の件は、私が作成していた刈谷パーキングエリアのカテゴリに当該ファイルが追加されたことをウォッチリストで目にしたことから気づいたものであり、決してあら探しによるものではないこと、ご理解いただければ幸いです。今後とも良質なファイルのご提供をよろしくお願いいたします。Yasu (talk) 14:58, 17 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

はじめまして。画像をアップロードされる際に、ファイル名に日付を含めておられますが、この日付がアップロードの日付になっているものが結構あるようにお見受けしました（例：File:Shin-Sanagawa Bridge20190318A.jpg、File:Kariya PA20190331A.JPGなど）。このファイル名の「201903xx」の部分ですが、公式の方針によれば、

  • （ファイル名に含める）日付は正確でなければならない

となっています。投稿されました写真は、最終的には「いつ撮影された写真であるか」が重要な意味を持つことは容易にご理解いただけると思います。またコモンズは、いわば公共物として他者に利用されることを主目的にしたデータベースであることもすでにご承知の通りです。ファイル名の日付が撮影日と異なっていると、他の利用者の誤解を招く原因となります（一例として、Category:Bridges in Japan photographed in 2017を閲覧した場合のFile:Meiko Central Bridge20180902A.jpg）。この点を踏まえて、ファイル名に日付を含める際は、撮影日としていただきたくお願い致します。これまで投稿された画像との整合性について特には気にして頂く必要ははないかと思います。ファイル名を撮影日に適合するように改名して行くことは可能ですので。--トトト (talk) 12:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

ファイル名に含める日付を撮影日に合わせるということでしょうか？それならば私は今後はファイル名に日付を記入することは一切やめることにします。ファイル名に作成日を記入することのメリットはファイル名が過去に作成したファイル名と被らないことにあるからです。それを禁止というならば相当使いづらくなりますね。一々過去の、何百とある画像を見ながら「名称が被っていないな」とチェックすることになりますから。あるいは、過去のAAA20170215Cというファイル名を見つけ出して、じゃあ次は0215Dだ、という具合に一々過去にさかのぼってチェックすることになりますね。そういうことまでコモンズの運営者は作り手側の立場を考えているのか大いに疑問ですが、いづれにしても、それが仮にルールだとするならば、従わざるを得ないでしょう。よって私は私にだけに判るシリアル番号のようなものをファイル名に使うことにしましょう。しかしながら、そのシリアル番号さえ「閲覧者の理解に資さない」という理由でやめろという指摘をうけるとしたならば、コモンズという所は作り手側の立場を一切無視した、運営者の自己満足の場であると言わざるを得ないですね。--Oka21000 (talk) 15:46, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
