Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, Paysage de Céret, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. OK pour l'effacement dès que possible du fichier File: Cloche de la Chapelle des Capucins Notre Dame des Anges à Céret.jpg. Les précisions données dans le texte ont été formulées en remerciements et en hommage aux 2 personnes nommées pour faciliter l'accès du campanile en permettant la prise du cliché plus aisément, avec eux. Média dans la catégorie "Sculptures in Céret", je souhaite attirer votre attention sur la présence d'une photo ayant le même objet, en septième position, prise par Jordi Gili, le 16/08/2021. Pourquoi ce cliché, n'a pas lui aussi été supprimé pour les mêmes motifs? 2 poids, 2 mesures?, parti-pris? Dois-je changer de nationalité pour présenter mon travail? Voir les 2 réponses déjà formulées à la suite de plusieurs avertissements, et menaces sous entendues de la suppression de ce fichier, ne laissant que peu de place à une réelle discussion impartiale et objective, à moins que je fasse erreur, sous réserve de preuves de bonne volonté. A vous de trouver la formule toute prête de Wikipédia pour une fois de plus me classer dans une mauvaise catégorie de contributeur. Et si un jour je devenais aussi efficace que vous pour demander de nombreuses suppressions de vos fichiers plutôt discutables, qu'en penseriez-vous? Merci d'avoir bien voulu me répondre. Oui, je suis bien le photographe de ce cliché. Mais après avoir tenté de rectifier l'information concernant l'auteur de la photo, je n'ai pas réussi à retrouver la zone de la description où il est demandé s'il s'agit d'un travail personnel ou non. Selon Wikipédia, l'erreur est impardonnable et extrêmement compliquée à réparer, quasiment rédhibitoire dans sa mise en oeuvre. Je suis très (peut-être trop!) motivé dans mes rares contributions, et donc franchement pénalisé dans mon inexpérience, perdant de plus en plus confiance dans la contribution à Wikipédia, me paraissant réservée à une élite dont je ne suis pas. Le patrouilleur de mon village, très performant dans son rôle de censeur, se comporte comme un robot destructeur avant tout, sans réaction de la moindre compréhension, au moins sous la forme d'une réponse lisible et solidaire. @Damusmedia: (cc @Christian Ferrer: ) Je ne suis pas un robot, mais simplement très strict en effet avec le respect du droit d'auteur qui est essentiel pour la bonne marche des projets Wikimedia (et je suis le premier à déplorer de ne pas pouvoir illustrer certains articles). J'agis de la même manière sur Wikipédia (où je suis administrateur en effet) et ici et avec tout le monde. J'ai proposé plusieurs fois depuis plusieurs années de vous rencontrer puisque nous habitons au même endroit pour vous former afin de vous éviter des erreurs, vous avez toujours refusé, et c'est dommage car vous continuez à en commettre régulièrement. Mon offre tient toujours. Note à propos de mes propres photos uploadées ici : si vous trouvez certaines de mes photos "discutables" selon les critères du droit d'auteur, ne vous privez pas pour les signaler, il m'est arrivé de faire des erreurs comme tout le monde et je n'aurai aucun mal à le reconnaître. Bonjour Culex: Vous avez encore des progrès à faire dans le délai de demandes de suppression et même de leur réalisation, votre objectif étant de réduire encore et encore un laps de temps à la seconde près. Wikipédia vous donne tous les moyens en bons et mauvais prétextes très argumentés et rédigés pour se justifier (comment pourrait-il en être autrement?) afin de décourager les contributeurs "canards boiteux", jusqu'à ce qu'ils renoncent à poursuivre leur envie de participer. Grands seigneurs, il est proposé de discuter démocratiquement des décisions qui sont d'avance déjà actées et dont la nature ne surprend que bien rarement. Devant un tel empressement, et étant trop bête et bien loin de toutes les élites qui vous entourent, je préfère retrouver un peu plus de sérénité en évitant de discuter pour rien avec des robots ou leur conducteurs. Je regrette sincèrement de si mal réagir et l'action de réduire d'éventuelles contributions vouées à l'échec ou leur suppression pure et simple, aux yeux d'une communauté mondiale, dont l'élite ignore cependant l'existence de bonnes volontés prêtes à progresser dans un univers positivement plus ouvert et tolérant, de plus en plus dépendante de la robotisation à outrance. En ne changeant pas ce logiciel, Wikipédia disparaitra par manque de contributeurs motivés.
