I'm confused because I used Bing.com Images and searched under "Public Domain." Doesn't that mean that this is public domain? And going forward, how do I determine if an image is public domain? Hi. Please use {{ping:Patrick Rogel}} and not User:Patrick Rogel if you want that I get your message. It seems somebody has replied to you already on the section above. In short: almost everything you find on the Internet is copyrighted by default (even is tere's no © symbol) do please upload from websites containing a valid license on their footer, files old enough to be public domain in the country of first publication or, of course, images shot by you. You have the possibility to contact the copyright holder (mostly photographer) of an image you like to ask him/her to COM:CONSENT to put his/her immage under a Creative Commons license. Critically evaluate Flickr licenses

File:Coco Jones in 2012.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

Unfre videos

Hi. I wonder how do you manage to upload so many copyrighted images from obviously unfree videos (I'm talking about the Shauna Macdonald The Descent Still series and the Lauren Ambrose 2012 Independent Spirit series). Indeed the CC license on the videos apply only to the video segment, not to the pictures inserted in the video (some even bear watermarks of their real copyright holders). Then you should always remember to critically evaluate these licenses. If you think you are not able to recognize a free video content from a copyrighted one or a free Flickr image of a copyrighted one you should stop right away to upload such files and focus on more simple tasks as uploading photos taken by yourself or very old images out of copyright. I remind you you are accountable for the copyright violations you have uploaded here (they are 30 plus so far) and if they amount too high you risk to be blocked from editing. @Patrick Rogel: I genuinely thought the images I uploaded were free to use as the videos fall under a copyright that’s compatible with Wikimedia Commons. The image I uploaded for Leonardo Nam seems to be fine but was a screenshot of a YouTube video. Could you explain the difference? For instance the infobox images of the following articles all come from a YouTube video that falls within Creative Commons: Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, and Sofia Carson. They were all screenshots of video interviews. How would I do the same or similar for other articles like Shauna Macdonald? Also, besides Flickr and possibly YouTube how do I find images for relatively notable actors? I have several articles I created or largely fixed that either have no info box images or images from over a decade ago and thus outdated. Do you have any recommendations? Please correct the red links so I can see what files you are talking about. You have created a photo from a video made by The Paparazzi Gamer [TPG] and there's no reason to believe their work is not by them. It's different regarding the Te lo cuento en 5 min. videoː they use footage from a 2005 feature film which is far too recent to be public domain so they don't have the right to put this video under CC. Last 13 April I've already explain to you why several images you had uploaded were not free. I'm afraid I won't (and nobody here) explain it each time for each photo. It's now up to you to perform the necessary researchs to ensure that a file you want to upload is OK and to perform these research BEFORE upload. In case you are not sure of the copyright status, don't upload it. If by "relatively notable actors" you are talking about living actors it will hard to find free pictures of them because, as I've said you April 13, almost everything you find on the web is not free. Besides an image on a Wikipedia article has never been mandatory and you should let the old image (because it's free) and not substitute a more recent one which is probably unfree. I've told you too you can try to contact the copyright holder if he is OK for putting one of his image under CC. • FF - Just because someone uploads their video under Creative Commons that doesn't mean all's legit and dandy - Due diligence and extreme caution has to be used,

The Lauren Ambrose video was a blatant and obvious copyvio and you should've known it was, The spammy Shauna one can be forgiven as that may not be obvious to some but you certainly should've known the Lauren video was a copyvio,

You very very clearly don't understand the copyright process and as such I would strongly suggest you do not continue to upload any images here other than your own,

We appreciate you trying to help but copyright is very serious and must be respected even if we sometimes disagree with it.

@Davey2010: But for the future, how were the infobox images uploaded for the following articles? They all came from a YouTube video interview that falls within Creative Commons: Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, and Sofia Carson. They were all screenshots of video interviews. Those were taken from an actual videos and are not just pictures, The channel for those aren't verified either so it's a tough one, If uploading Youtube videos I would first do a search of the channel name on Google as well as here, If I'm satisfied that they're a legitimate company and that they're not spam then I'd upload it,

To my knowledge I've only ever uploaded one Youtube picture here so my knowledge on this is slim, I work with Flickr pretty much but I'd assume there's editors here who upload from Youtube who could easily spot copyvios etc better than I ever could, Thanks, –Davey2010^Talk 21:35, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
