If you just stopped referring me to wordy pages and being vague, and instead, supplied the thorough reply you just sent, perhaps I would be as frustrated.

SO BE CLEAR. ARE THE SCANNED NYTIMES ARTICLES NOT ALLOWED? CAN I USE LINKS? DO I HAVE TO GO TO THEIR ARCHIVES AND PURCHASE THE ARTICLES TO MATCH UP WITH MY CITATIONS? BE CLEAR!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonas1639 (talk • contribs) 23:22, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

SO, IF WE HAVE A NYTIMES ARTICLE IN OUR COLLECTION, BUT THE ORIGINAL IS OUT OF PRINT, DO WE JUST SITE THE ONE THATS OUT OF PRINT? Jonas1639 (talk) 23:25, 28 November 2016 (UTC)jonas1639 6:25pReply

Hi Jonas1639. has images from and of the BHS. Yes there are all types of files, but there are not obvious copyright violations like the ones you uploaded.
To be totally clear, scans of newspapers published inside the US after 1923 are not permitted without COM:OTRS permission from the copyright holder.
I have no idea where you are planning to use links, but if you're talking about English wikipedia, you'd cite the article as a citation, you do not need a photo of it.
If you have a NY Times article in your collection and the original is out of print, you cite, in normal citation format : Author, Title, Publisher, Date, and online link if any.
Anything else? Please "PING" me by typing @{{u|Ellin Beltz}} on any page of the project where you need help. I am sorry you are upset by the process, but please do not leave angry messages anywhere, this project is not a social media platform and we are working for a common goal, this is not personal in any way unless you make it so. DO I JUST DELETE THE JPGS AND LEAVE THE CITATIONS IN THE ARTICLE? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonas1639 (talk • contribs) 23:27, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cite the newsarticles by using their news template in English Wikipedia.

Hello Jonas1639.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

The place you work does not own copyright on the New York Times. Please take the time to read COM:L before making more uploads or your account may end up closed. Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:52, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Question about some uploads edit

Greetings Jonas1639, It appears like you uploaded some pictures of some newspaper articles such as [1]. Generally we can't do that here because commons requires that all images are freely distributable. Newspaper clippings that recent are likely not. If you have something that shows these are indeed freely distributable could you provide a link so we can include that in those clippings. Otherwise they will likely be deleted. Please let me know if you have any questions. Reguyla (talk) 03:35, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I was asked to see if I could give you some help as well. The mere ownership of a 'copy' of a newspaper clipping does not give you the right to reproduce it... the copyright remains with the original owner until it expires. You can refer to the chart published at http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm as a quick reference to the requirements. It's important to be aware, though, that a copyright notice could be, and commonly was, applied to the newspaper 'as a whole', and that would apply to any photos belonging to the newspaper published in it.
Another possibility, for very old newspapers, is that they were published with a notice, but the copyright was never renewed and so expired. There is a list of the dates of first filed renewals for 'some' periodicals here. That table tells us, for instance, that the New York Daily News renewed the copyrights in individual articles starting in 1932, and for entire issues starting in 1951.... this generally means that we cannot use any post-1931 material. For the New York Times, the relevant dates are much earlier... full issues were renewed since 1928.
The smaller newspapers are not listed in that table, but that does not 'prove' they did not renew their copyrights, it just means they aren't listed, and means the actual books would need to be checked. Most smaller papers did not renew them (it was not free) but we cannot assume that without doing the research.
Anything published in the US prior to 1923 is in the public domain, however. Reventtalk 04:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reventtalk 04:33, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I deleted this image because it is technically broken due to a bug in MediaWiki... the actual 'file itself' does not exist on the server, and can't be re-uploaded, even though it is visible in the history. You can reupload it under a different name, though I suspect it might be a copyright problem as a news clipping. Reventtalk 04:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
