Morris dancers York 8667.jpg edit

I think this picture is so good that it is worthy of consideration as a Quality Image, so I hope you don't mind me nominating it. I particularly like that all the dancers' feet are off the ground! Regards. Rodhullandemu (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Certainly; I would be happy if you did so. Let me know if they actually use it. Cheers, Peter K Burian (talk) 13:28, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Actually, Rodhullandemu, this is the best photo that I have recently posted to Wiki media. File:Bald Eagle, Ontario forest.jpg Peter K Burian (talk) 01:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's a very good image but at full magnification it looks noisy to me- I'm by no means an expert but the people who judge Quality Images know what they're talking about. The Morris dancers in York, sadly, didn't make it because the focus was too far back. I thought it was OK, the dancers had been caught off-ground without blur. If you want to nominate the eagle, fine, but standards are high, sometimes frustratingly so. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 08:12, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Typical yorkshire village B 9079.jpg edit

Hi, and thanks for the nice picture. Would you be so kind and tell us the name of the village? --Schlosser67 (talk) 07:11, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well, we toured North Yorkshire for hundreds of miles in a week, so I cannot remember. Might be Muker or Keld. Peter K Burian (talk) 01:51, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

That narrows it down a little, perhaps now aerial photographs can help in identifying it ... Thanks! --Schlosser67 (talk) 07:01, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Location? edit

Hi Peter - could you add locations to your bird photos like File:BARN OWL FLIGHT.jpg where they don't have them already, please! It affects things like identity - e.g. File:Barn Owl, Ontario, Canada.jpg is now in the species split off as American Barn Owl Tyto furcata (so is out of place at en:Barn owl Tyto alba!); also, for captive birds, it helps to place them in the captive subcategory (like e.g. I've moved File:Red-tailed hawk, falconer's bird.jpg to Category:Buteo jamaicensis (captive)). Thanks! - MPF (talk) 21:24, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help in ensuring great accuracy, MPF. The Wiki Commons barn owl file does include specifics:

Description English: Barn Owl (Canada) in flight Date 17 October 2018, 14:18:31 Source Own work Author Peter K Burian

But yes, this is a captive bird as indicated in File:Barn Owl, Ontario, Canada.jpg

Cheers, User:Peter K Burian, Dec. 10, 2018

Excellent, thanks! - MPF (talk) 12:12, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dear Peter K Burian,
I am a proffessor and currently redacting my compiled course notes into a book named "History of Interior Design and Furniture” which will be in turkish language and will be distributed in Turkey. I will appreciate if you let me know your terms and conditions for the image's usage permission.
Your name will be indicated at the end of the book in the photo credits part.

File: Amsterdam_Canal_Tour.jpg Location? edit

I've been trying to pin down the location / POV of this excellent image, used in the Wikipedia article Canals of Amsterdam, captioned simply "Numerous tourists view Amsterdam from canal boat tours (2015)". Given Amsterdam's incredibly complex canal system, I think it would be good to describe it further in the article. My best guess is the canal is the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, from the Korte Niezel Br. or thereabouts, looking north to the Armbrug (Br.) and the south transept & east end apse & dome of St. Nicholas Basilica. It's a bit confusing as the Armbrug & Korte Niezel bridges are quite similar! Can you help? --D A Patriarche (talk) 03:33, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I did not record the location information but my research today suggests this. The canal is the Oudezijds Voorburgwal and St. Nicholas Basilica is in the background. I am 95% sure that the bridge in the photo is the Korte Niezel Bridge. Cheers, Peter K Burian (talk) 12:45, 24 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Photo of Wax Figures. Yes, Elisfkc, go ahead and delete it, if this type of photo is not acceptable on Wikimedia Commons. Peter K Burian (talk) 16:37, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
P.S. Here is another photo of mine, Elisfkc, on Wikimedia Commons: Statue in Florence. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Statue_of_Leonardo_DaVinci_in_Uffizi_Alley,_Florence,_Italy.jpg Obviously, I did not create the statue. Is this type also unacceptable?

Here is another of my photos on Wikimedia Commons; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Bund_Bull,_Shanghai,_2018.jpg I did not create the sculpture of the bull. So should this photo be slated for deletion?

File:Field Barn ("cow'us") diagram, in Muker Upper Swalesdale.jpg edit

File (above) nominated for Copyvio. See discusion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Peter_K_Burian#File:Field_Barn_(%22cow'us%22)_diagram,_in_Muker_Upper_Swalesdale.jpg and https://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/field-barns-at-lowlands-farm-askrigg-and-raydale/ for copyright claim. 2A00:23C6:3B82:8500:4841:3ABF:D0B7:14D8 16:10, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, go ahead and delete it.
Wikimedia Commons has photos of many types of signs, such as Historic Plaques: showing what important historic event happened at some location. Such as this photo, that I had posted from Allan's Mill:

Allan's mill, Guelph, historic plaque
I guess the Barn photo (of a different type of informational sign) is not considered to be acceptable.
By the way, I do have numerous other photos on Wikimedia Commons which have never been marked for deletion. https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=Peter+K+burian&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go&ns0=1&ns6=1&ns12=1&ns14=1&ns100=1&ns106=1
BUT, what about my photo of a statue in Florence? Is that copyright violation because I did not create the statue?? Your thoughts about the statue photo, Elisfkc?

American kestrel/Aplomado falcon edit

Dear Peter, please check the attribution of the file American Kestrel, male, in Southern Ontario, Canada.jpg, recently downloaded to the Commons. It seems to be the aplomado falcon? captive. Anyway, thanks for your fantastic BIF pictures! Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 21:35, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
