You have been blocked indefinitely from editing Commons. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add {{Unblock}} below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. For more information, see Appealing a block. See the block log for the reason that you have been blocked and the name of the administrator who blocked you.

Bad block
edit- @Yann: this is an inappropriate block. I guess from the block log that you think this user and User:Renamed user g5r8c5h8j5g2f55v5h2h5g5d2s2c5b5 are the same person, but if you check their contributions on enwiki, you’ll see they’re not. Rowan Forest’s comments here stem from a dispute at w:Talk:Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster involving the vanished user’s image. At the very least, Rowan Forest’s talk page access should be restored so they can comment on this block and know the reasons for it. clpo13(talk) 01:17, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Christ, over here at Commons the lunatics really do seem to have taken over the asylum. WP admins can only dream of getting away with such imperious bullshit. Shame on you, Yann. Now, I understand Rowan Forest posted a comment to a discussion here which appears to have been deleted; I formally request that it be restored so that we may all see its content. The deletion smells very strongly of someone trying to suppress criticism of himself or his fellow admins. Or will you block me now too for talking back to my betters? EEng (talk) 02:06, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Yann and Clpo13: Why has the edit history of the vanished user's talk page disappeared? I made a contribution there and I can see no trace of it now: no page history, no hint in my contribs list, not even a revdel mark. Can somebody please restore the conversation? Looks like Rowan Forest is puzzled too. JFG (talk) 02:11, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Everthing about this smells like bullshit. Adults don't act this way; grow up or go turn in your bit. This is ridiculous. MjolnirPants (talk) 02:11, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Adminv Yann deleted the page with this notation [1]
- deleted page User:Renamed user g5r8c5h8j5g2f55v5h2h5g5d2s2c5b5 (Out of project scope)
- I'm guessing that's code language for "I didn't know how to answer what was said there." EEng (talk) 02:15, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

- This has been strange. There's a message at commons AN that the user is no longer blocked.CaroleHenson (talk) 02:25, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- That's true, Rowan Forest was unblocked by another admin. That still leaves the question of why he was blocked in the first place, and why the user page mentioned above was deleted in an apparent attempt to hide what Rowan Forest had posted there. EEng (talk) 02:33, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed.CaroleHenson (talk) 02:35, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

- @CaroleHenson, Clpo13, EEng, and MjolnirPants: Some of us noticed Yann’s recent behaviour escalation… -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 02:23, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- That is good to hear. I cannot recall the large number of editors on the English WP who have told me they can't stand working at commmons because of the lack of communication and civility here. The more of you who notice this sort of stuff and let it be known that it's not acceptable, the more good editors will be willing to edit here. MjolnirPants (talk) 02:38, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- +1, amen to that. I get it that people may be stressed out by the sheer volume of junk to delete, but civility and basic communication too often get thrown out with the proverbial bathwater. JFG (talk) 02:54, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Wow, this is really interesting. Admins on en.wiki couldn't do anything similar to this. You can only imagine the pile-on at ANI and arbcom desysop case if a pale reflection of this happened there. L293D (talk) 02:55, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Does commons have the equivalent of ANI or Arbcom? Who polices the police over here? --Guy Macon (talk) 07:36, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
In answer to Guy's question, the governance of admin behaviour on Commons falls back on open discussion on a noticeboard, and if justified, the wider community following the desysop process. Unfortunately that means that poor actions and behaviours have to reach extreme levels before a reliable formal process can be followed. One incident or repeated low-level issues are never sufficient for a desysop vote to be the correct process to follow, especially as a "pre-vote" is required to occur and pass before a desysop vote is proposed. A few years back there were more active Bureaucrats to appeal to, and who may have a private chat with an admin in danger of going rogue, though I have not seen that happening recently, and there was definitely more use of trout-slaps and reminding folks to remain MELLOW which you just do not see now before the pitchforks and desysop vote stage.
The type of discussion here, which could have been on an admin noticeboard or on IRC might remain the best ways to get the admin's attention and hopefully they will rethink their approach or give a more detailed explanation of events before any threats of further action are reached. Better governance on Commons of the use of sysop tools remains an area that regularly causes friction with the wider community, and inconsistent use of the tools to deny a blocked user access to their talk page, making it virtually impossible for them to appeal a block, is a great example of an extreme measure that we see routinely overused by several admins and rarely get questioned.
If folks are motivated, the generic issue of better admin governance, rather than just this instance, may be a topic that could be usefully raised on the Village Pump. (Views as a non-admin but with a background in organizational governance.) --Fæ (talk) 08:08, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- I personally have not seen an issue with admin governance prior to this case. I would be happy to post something on Village Pump about the blocking process, particularly indef blocks and the lack of notification of recourse when the talk page is indef'd.CaroleHenson (talk) 18:51, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Is this sufficient as a starting point for Village Pump to discuss the deletion policy, or should it be more broad?CaroleHenson (talk) 21:13, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Done. It's posted at Commons:Village pump#Block process.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:27, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Apologies
editHi, The block was a mistake, and I apologize. Regards, Yann (talk) 22:50, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- I acknowledge your apology. Your actions to follow will determine your sincerity. Peace, Rowan Forest (talk) 23:11, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
File:UltraSail solar sail.png
editHi Rowan. Regarding File:UltraSail solar sail.png, I found an original resolution version of this image at http://www.planetary.org/multimedia/space-images/spacecraft/heliogyro-solar-sail.html. Given the significant differences in size and quality, I wanted to ask if you would be opposed to overwriting the current image with the new one, or if you would prefer to preserve the old copy? Thanks! — Huntster (t @ c) 20:54, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Huntster: sure, please go ahead and upgrade the image. Thanks, Rowan Forest (talk) 23:09, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
