Thanks for uploading File:NicholasLynde bookplate.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please check my FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 03:46, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner), if you need some help about it please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the   Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 20:32, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Photo croppingEdit

If you dislike a picture, upload a newer version which is cropped or has any changes you like, but don’t force on others, especially the original uploader. You’re behavior on different platforms is worrying. I wish to avoid having to report you, but if you continue with that, I’ll do it. --Lecen (talk) 14:37, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

┌───┘
Lecen: Presumably you're talking about these two versions of File:Pedro II of Brazil 1848.jpg:

Left: your version. Right: my version.

This has nothing to do with "disliking" anything, and everything to do with serving the reader as best we can. Why you insist on miniaturizing the worthy Pedro II of Brazil to a tiny postage stamp awash in a sea of yellow, instead of cropping so that his head and shoulders fill the frame, is beyond me. As it says at en:WP:Manual_of_Style/Images#Editing_images:

An image's utility or quality may be improved by cropping (to focus on the relevant portion), cleaning up scanning artifacts, correcting color balance, removing red-eye effect, or other adjustments.

Or at en:WP::Image_use_policy#Cropping we have:

Within reason, crop an image to remove irrelevant areas.

The empty area around Pedro is clearly irrelevant and ought to be cropped out; otherwise you're forcing the reader to squint to see His Imperial Majesty and wasting precious space on the article page -- not to mention suggesting to the reader that the article's authors lack common sense.

This should be completely uncontroversial but -- surprise! -- you object. From our past interactions you appear to have a variety of rigid ideas impervious to reason, and have difficulty learning from more experienced editors -- see [1] just in case you missed it.

Since you insist on seeing everything as a battle, instead of just a good-faith difference of opinion, by all means "report" me somewhere -- I think here is the place to do it -- but send me a link so I can share the laugh with everyone else. Since you seem to want the various articles on imperial Brazil to remain monuments to your stubbornness I won't worry about this particular detail further. EEng (talk) 04:06, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Inappropriate overwriting images to crop rather than creating separate versionEdit

See: Commons:Overwriting_existing_files. Seriously, this is policy. Please follow it, thanks. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 06:37, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

(For those playing along at home, this concerns the various versions of the image at File:Sacred_Fart_Activity_Center.jpg). Seriously, it's a guideline and should be applied with common sense, but as is well known common sense is in short supply at Commons. EEng (talk) 14:19, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
