Hi Indrajitdas, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

edit

File:Ramnagar Fort.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Your recent deletion tag addition to my uploads

edit

@Indrajitdas: Hi, I just noticed that you have added deletion tag to a bunch of images that I had uploaded over time. The pictures are mostly from Wikipedia activities organized by myself and other colleagues. And we always ask people to opt out if they have privacy can change concerns of not being photographed. It's practically impossible to take written permission. I have been to many large gatherings esp. Wikimania where pictures of large group of people are captured. But apart from designated people with colored tags none takes written permission. Similarly we have asked people to opt out and some that had privacy concerns have done so. What can I do now to get their writer permission after years now? I don't even have contact details of many. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 14:41, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • @Psubhashish: I think you have two separate sets of question. One regarding deletion and another related to Personality Rights. Firstly, I would like to answer you regarding deletion. Deletion has happened due to malfunction of my system and it was completely accidental. I have already mentioned the same in the deletion log page and afterward, I have also tried to rectified/removed the same from almost all those files. If any file still contain the Deletion Tag, Please let me know, I will rectify the same. I hope, now you understand it was not done with any other reasons. On your second question you have mentioned that "It's practically impossible to take written permission", Yes I understand you but I would like to tell you to go through this Photographs of identifiable people. If anything left with for clarification please let me know as Online or Offline - Indrajit Das (Talk - Contribs) 05:02, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't disagree with adding the personality rights template. It's definitely a good practice and I probably have missed it in many of my uploads. When it is important to add the missing personality rights templates, I would take time to do that for all the affected pictures as I have limited time like any other volunteer to do so. Thanks for clarifying about the accidental deletion tag addition because I was worried to see so many affected picture. I simply have no bandwidth at the moment to fix so many pictures and at the same time, I would not like to let go all those uploads. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 05:55, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Psubhashish: You missed it to add the template and i did it on behalf of you. We have to work hand to hand. Good day! Since I uploaded some more picture life event of my won personal life I am subjected unfairly terminating my facts in images. I do not understand the reason? Wikipedia is the most reliable and precious resource to share reality and history not only in mere word of combination but fact in images where those words are proved. I posted some my own very important life events by proving them with pictures what I had. Unfortunately You and others sever time unfairly attacked me and deleted my pictures for minor and useless reason. I have right to ask for testimony what on earth to demolish one's life story in picture -facts? Is it evil or wickedness? I consider you just only having free time jumping into conclusion and misjudging others. I am not astonished if any maltreatment can be in this matter, intentionally and deliberately to attack my pictures facts to terminate them. It is not just nor even acceptable and mostly I am displeased by your wrongdoings and unruly outlaw taking a grant of Wiki-rights abusing others' genuine right like me who became a victim of your savage judgment! I hope you can find a courage and honesty in your deep bottom of kind heart to make fair decision before undermining one's historical picture facts. Best regards,

@Florakarimova: I do respect your emotions. Firstly, I never refer anything related to you as evil or wickedness nor attacked you. Secondly, Being a Wikipedian I can assure you nobody will unfairly attacked you, if so you can report. Thirdly, Nothing has been done with you intentionally and deliberately. Fourthly, Yes, it's a fact we love being Wikipedian and do this work voluntarily in free time to support a cause. I hope I have clarified your query and concern. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!

edit

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Indrajitdas,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,

Hi Indrajit! I noticed that you have raised various Deletion Review requests like eg Commons:Deletion requests/File:4k-wallpaper-clouds-cropland-842711.jpg wherein you presented that the image is copyrights violation and has been simply lifted from internet. In such cases, which are clearly copyvios, you can simply tag them as Template:Copyvio. Admins are more active on cleaning copyvios and then deletion will not need to wait for 7 days or so. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 03:03, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Greetings, thanks for taking part in the initial conversation around the proposal for WikiConference India 2020 in Hyderabad. Firstly, we are happy to share the news that there has been a very good positive response from individual Wikimedians. Also there have been community-wide discussions on local Village Pumps on various languages. Several of these discussions have reached consensus, and supported the initiative. To conclude this initial conversation and formalise the consensus, an IRC is being hosted today evening. We can clear any concerns/doubts that we have during the IRC. Looking forward to your participation.

Important message for file movers

edit

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

This is an invitation to participate in the Community Engagement Survey, which is one of the key requirements for drafting the Conference & Event Grant application for WikiConference India 2020 to the Wikimedia Foundation. The survey will have questions regarding a few demographic details, your experience with Wikimedia, challenges and needs, and your expectations for WCI 2020. The responses will help us to form an initial idea of what is expected out of WCI 2020, and draft the grant application accordingly. Please note that this will not directly influence the specificities of the program, there will be a detailed survey to assess the program needs post-funding decision.

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

It's early 2020, which means it's time again to look back at photographs taken over the course of the past 12 months. As always, I'm curious – what would you consider your best shot of 2019 and why? I invite you to share your image and your thoughts in order to provide others with the opportunity to celebrate, learn, and enjoy:

Your best shot 2019

Thanks for all your effort in sharing your vision of the world with others under a free license!

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff

edit

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:

  • I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
  • Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
  • Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.

Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 18:51, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
