Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

¿Como estás? Te había escrito en tu discusión de WP pensando que también la usabas, pero veo que no es así, así que vine aquí para hablar contigo. El asunto es que visto que te gusta desarrollar escudos de los equipos del fútbol argentino con formato .svg y me preguntaba si pudieses crear uno para mí que en realidad lo tengo hecho pero en formato .png creado con el photoshop (tu dime si lo necesitas para ayudarte para que me lo pases a .svg, pero creo que necesitaría tu mail o algo porque por acá corro el riesgo de que no te llegue por haber sido borrada). El escudo del que te hablo (para pasarte a vos, para que me lo confecciones a .svg) sería como este pero sin la parte circular, es decir, la parte de adentro, en la que estoy interesado ya que es el original y lo tengo con mayor resolución:

Ok. Espero que sea parecido al de la parte de adentro del que te mostré arriba, es decir, sin la parte circular, porque el más común de encontrar es este que ya es antiguo y feo además en su diseño. Por cierto, no quiero abusar y tampoco son de mi necesidad, pero sé que te gusta desarrollar escudos y al Atlético Palmira, Huracán Las Heras y Gutiérrez SC también les hace falta escudos en WP, aunque yo sólo soy de Gimnasia. PD: Gimnasia de Mendoza, se llama en forma completa Club Atlético Gimnasia y Esgrima, lo digo porque algunos solo le ponen Club Gimnasia y Esgrima. Escudos con copyright edit

Hola Trandos, antes que nada te felicito por el gran trabajo de diseño que estás realizando para los escudos de clubes argentinos. Al respecto, quería hacerte una aclaración con respecto a los logos que estás subiendo a Commons. Muchos de los que diseñás, están por arriba del "umbral de la originalidad" (ver aquí), esto es, por su diseño complejo no pueden ser alojados acá (p.e.: Gimnasia y Esgrima LP, Lanús, Real Madrid, Man Utd).

Hay solamente dos opciones de licencias, que los hace adecuados para Commons, que son: 1) {{PD-textlogo}} 2) {{PD-AR-Anonymous}}, pero la segunda es más compleja, porque tiene que estar debidamente comprobado que el logo haya sido dado a conocer más de 50 años atrás (-1964), esto es, con una fuente confiable: si vos indicás como fuentes: "archivos y libros de actas del club" por ej, sin dar ningún link o referencia válida, te los terminarán borrando por infracción a la ley de copyright. Te hago saber esto para que no te molestes en subir escudos que indefectiblemente serán eliminados, porque si no los veo yo, los verá alguien más, y así ...

Tené en cuenta que la mayoría de los logos son anónimos, sí, pero están realizados y puestos al día con diseños modernos, por lo cual dado su carácter reciente, les da derecho a copyright (con la excepción de los escudos simples: Boca, River, Independiente, que tienen licencia "PD-ineligible").

¡Hola Trandos! Cuando veas este mensaje, por favor contáctame. Saludos. ¿Como estás? El asunto es que visto que te gusta desarrollar escudos de los equipos del fútbol argentino con formato .svg y me preguntaba si pudieses crear uno para mí que en realidad lo tengo hecho pero en formato .png creado y le saques el fondo blanco con el photoshop (tu dime si lo necesitas para ayudarte para que me lo pases a .svg, pero creo que necesitaría tu mail o algo porque por acá corro el riesgo de que no te llegue por haber sido borrada). El escudo del que te hablo (para pasarte a vos, para que me lo confecciones a .svg) sería como este pero sin la parte circular, es decir, la parte de adentro, en la que estoy interesado ya que es el original y lo tengo con mayor resolución:
