Stop using default sort on my files edit

I'm going to just remove it from every file you've added it to. If you want to sort categories you add, then do it individually.Famartin (talk) 15:56, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:Lentinus brumalis edit

You have wrongly and incorrectly changed the file name. See Index Fungorum. Polyporus brumalis is a synonym. Selso (talk) 17:19, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

it is a synonym but Polyporus brumalis is the usual latin name --anro (talk) 17:24, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

File renaming edit

Please take a look at what Criterion 3 says:"This criterion does not, however, cover moving a file from its common usage name to its scientific or technical name.". Accordingly, your moves, unless the common names are palpably incorrect, are contrary to that guideline. If you think the guideline is wrong, please seek amendment at the talk page, but until consensus is reached, please don't rename any more files unnecessarily. Category:Spring_2018 edit

Spring 2018 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

@Auntof6 botanically spring 2018 begun in this year already in January! --anro (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Then you might want to comment on the CFD, although I think the spring categories are defined by the calendar, not by botanical criteria. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:24, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

File moves edit

Hi,

Please can you not suppress the redirect when moving files from a lengthy if imprecise name to a more precise one (such as File:Fungus - geograph.org.uk - 402904.jpg to File:Amanita sp. - geograph.org.uk - 402904.jpg)? Deletion of these redirects adds no value, and can cause potential issues for re-users.--Nilfanion (talk) 15:50, 8 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ok i will include redirects in future also of images which are nowhere used. --anro (talk) 16:06, 8 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Commons is not just for Wikipedia, and files may be used elsewhere. We can't know for certain that they genuinely unused.--Nilfanion (talk) 16:16, 8 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Whoops… and how many links to images were destroyed in this way? @Rodhullandemu: did you see this section too? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:54, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
no links within wikipedia will be destroyed by file moves - the option to sopress redirect is only possible with unused images --anro (talk) 21:56, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
And how many outside Wikipedia? Can you be certain that is zero? No - then don't do it.--Nilfanion (talk) 22:26, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
I have already stopped to tupress redirects and I will not rename files -common names - to scientific in future --anro (talk) 22:30, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Wrong — Special:MovePage may suppress redirect for any file (sorry for beans). And again, Commons serves all the Internet, not only Wikimedia Empire. We can’t effectively search for Web pages depending on a particular file, and even less can we repair respective <img src="https://commons…"/>. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 22:33, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
but this option I will never use! --anro (talk) 23:18, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Last warning edit

You are still renaming files to scientific names contrary to the guidelines. This will stop. It's perfectly OK to rename, e.g. "fungi" to a more precise scientific name, but not common names to scientific names. I don't want to block a fellow admin, but I shall do so if you continue. Rodhullandemu (talk) 21:48, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

what do you think abour renaiming to scientific names but keeping the common names behind? --anro (talk) 23:00, 10 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Why move them at all? In many cases, use of the common name gives a more natural title. "File:Fly agaric in woodland near Glasgow.jpg" is just as accurate, and more familiar to English speakers, than "File:Amanita muscaria in woodland near Glasgow.jpg".
A file like "File:Red mushroom in woodland near Glasgow.jpg" is vague, so a rename under criterion 3 is good. The redirect should be kept.
A file like "File:Amanita phalloides in woodland near Glasgow.jpg", which actually shows A. muscaria, should be renamed - and no redirect left behind.
All the above refer to English-language file names. However, the same principles should apply to all languages. Renaming "Мухомор красный, Москва" to "Amanita muscaria, Moscow" is explicitly against policy. Renaming it to "Amanita muscaria, Москва" feels worse to me, with the awkward mix of scripts.--Nilfanion (talk) 07:02, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Editing files edit

this edition is unnecessary - there are no differences Selso (talk) 17:33, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Idiotic categories edit

Fungi of Poland, Fungi of France (generally: Fungi by country) - these are idiotic categories. Mushrooms are categorized according to taxonomy, not country and other administrative units. The fungus of a given species is the same in Poland as in France. Often the same species occurs in dozens of countries - and everywhere is the same. There are about 10,000 species of mushrooms in Poland, and the kifs can have many pictures - how many photos will be in the Polish Mushrooms category? Selso (talk) 07:30, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Selso: there is Commons:Categories for discussion. Solution for such a problem may not be based on some user_talk discussion. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:40, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
with this argument you may also consider any else categories about nature - eg. flora, animals, minerals, fossils etc. by country as idiotic --anro (talk) 18:26, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
eg. flora, animals, minerals, fossils etc. by country as idiotict - such categories are good in the articles (checklist) - in the pictures no (the given plant species is the same in Poland as elsewhere). Selso (talk) 10:19, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Too complex Lepidoptera categories edit

Hi AnRo0002, may I kindly request that you slow down with the creation of increasingly precise Lepidoptera-related cross-categories? For example, in Category:Nymphalidae of Germany and Category:Nymphalidae of Austria, I see that you have created some "[Family] in [Landkreis]", some "[Species] in [country]" (which we never do for any other country), and even some "[Species] in [region]"! These all look like bad ideas, for at least 2 reasons:

  • They are not useful: these categories are almost empty and they only make the pictures less accessible than before. Categorization is about grouping, not hiding.
  • The added complexity will make maintenance even more difficult; for example, even you don't seem to notice that you broke the existing categorization by not linking the "[Species] in [region]" to their respective "[Species]" categories...

Please, refrain from creating new categories of this kind. Infinite complexity should not be the goal. Thank you in advance. --LamBoet (talk) 09:29, 20 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Category "Flora of Gramschatzer Wald" edit

--Bonnlander (talk) 14:36, 5 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Earth 2018 edit

Hallo AnRo0002,

Map template for Canada edit

Why did you replace {{CanadaYear|maps|YYY|Y}} with {{MapsCanada|YYY|Y}} on all [[Category:YYYY maps of Canada]]? This change wasn't necessary, and if the previous template was lacking, it could have easily been extended (the only change I see is adding "works" and removing "maps of North America").

Likewise, the decade categories could use {{CanadaDecade}} instead of a map-dedicated {{CanadaMapsDecade}}; this was on my todo list, but since I hadn't done this yet, I won't belabour the point for the decade categories. Mindmatrix 13:33, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Zwei fehlbestimmte Bilder edit

Hallo AnRo0002/2018,
