Thanks for uploading File:Rooking Blue.PNG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Rooking Blue.PNG) and the above demanded information in your request.

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Dean Norris Hank.png. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content. Fair use laws vary from country to country, and uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules.

Also, fair use is only applicable in a few limited contexts. The use of a media file in one context may be considered fair use, while the use of the same file in another context may constitute copyright violation. In particular, fair use does not extend to the collection and distribution of media files in a media database such as Commons. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions.

Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally to projects which allow this.

Hello, CennoxX!

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

This media may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Gleiter von Ulm.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 openEdit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Autopatrol givenEdit

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, you can now share images from Flickr using the UploadWizard, batch-upload up to 500 files with UploadWizard instead of 50 and upload freely licensed audio files in the MP3 format. Welcome, Dear Patroller!Edit

Hi CennoxX,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Re: File:NCIS television prop (19 September 2008) 23.jpgEdit

Hi there. Thanks for the notification. I disagree with your assessment that this is an obvious case, so I converted your request to a normal deletion request which you can find here. Regards SoWhy 16:18, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification about the deletion request. I made a Deletion Request for another very similar case (Commons:Deletion requests/File:NCIS television prop (19 September 2008) 9.jpg), there weren't any concerns, so this time I made a speedydeletion. Regards.--CennoxX (talk) 17:08, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
That there are no concerns is not the issue. There is only a limited set of criteria for speedy deletion of images, and things that do not meet the criteria must progress via a normal process. If there is doubt about which way to go, we err on the side of deletion request, not speedy.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:06, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll do that, from now on.--CennoxX (talk) 23:00, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Reverted editsEdit

I have undone your edits at File:Holland Roden, Comic-con.jpg. There clearly should be an evidence base to a rename, and for making description changes. Please discuss your concerns with the uploader of the file prior to requesting a change on this image.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:03, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Please take a look at the source of the picture/Flickr. At Flickr the picture is tagged with "Paley Center" and part of the Flickr-set "OnStage @ Paley: MTV's Teen Wolf". Paley Center/PaleyFest is not the same like Comic-Con. I don't see any reason, why there should stand "Comic-Con" either in the description nor in the file-name. The uploader gave the picture an incorrect description, that's all. So what I should discuss with the uploader!?--CennoxX (talk) 22:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I am not saying that I will not do a rename, I am just saying that there needs to be an evidence-base to support a rename in cases like this. Otherwise we have a case of "he said vs. he said". So generally I ask for that and part of that can be the courtesy of a discussion with the uploader, as you would probably like if someone request a rename of one of your uploads. In this situation where you have what you see as a strong evidence base, then add that detail to the talk page of the image, and then reference the talk page in the rename request.  — billinghurst sDrewth 15:03, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
If anyone changes a description, you could at least check the source of the image, before you revert a edit. Never heard of the wiki-principle "Assume good faith"?--CennoxX (talk) 20:45, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Mate, assume good faith is a practice that I do and very widely, and communicating openly and honestly is another.

You are requesting the rename of an image uploaded by someone else, and it is reasonable that you clearly provide the evidence and the discussion that goes with it. Where an image is used at the Wikipedias, it needs to be supported by a citable source. So if someone is to use and quote the image, the evidence-base needs to be there, not based on someone's opinion. Good practice says document a significant change and provide evidence, and that is all that I am asking of you. This is more than an examination of a file history.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:16, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, for me, being so harsh. I'll pay heed to this. And thanks for renaming.--CennoxX (talk) 13:36, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

About this. See his other contributions, especially some watermarks in them. Thanks.--Fixertool (talk) 20:41, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Many pictures from this user are from the historical collection of Marie Stravlo, so maybe he has a permission for those pictures. I marked them, that they need permission. I nominated the other pictures, that seem to be copy vios, for speedy deletion.--CennoxX (talk) 21:21, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Image de Frédéric SouterelleEdit

or else (I speak little English)

I protest, the image is not a violation of law as the photographer himself agreed and therefore permission to publish the photo as long as it is mentioned in the legend, and this is what was done.

This is also the French actor himself who sent me the photo for me to enroll on the wiki explaining what I just said above. --Skarock (talk) 09:33, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer here and sorry for the problems. The Image was published online before, so I thought it was copied from that source. If the photographer agreed to publish this photo, it can be restored. I will take care of that.--CennoxX (talk) 12:32, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

OTRS Jessica Mae StoverEdit

Hello, I am suspicious about the pictures from User:Redwing2, here and at enwiki. The user uploaded pictures of Jessica Mae Stover, stating, he created them himself. All pictures are small, have no metadata and are from different places/situations and have different styles.

On the last picture in enwiki you added the OTRS, could you please check the permission, if that all is really okay? Thanks, --CennoxX (talk) 15:14, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

 • I've nominated the first one for deletion. For the others I have rechecked the OTRS ticket and it's OK. Stifle (talk) 17:28, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 AnnouncementEdit

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!Edit

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »
