Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Dear Shev123,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

  • In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Deux images

Bonjour,

Cordialement, Benoit Rochon (talk) 11:34, 1 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cordialement, Benoit Rochon (talk) 22:49, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour,
O.Taris (talk) 16:06, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

@O.Taris: Bonjour
O.Taris (talk) 19:24, 7 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

photo of Anne Wilsdorf

I'm a WikiMooc student and add an article (not yet published) about an illustrator called Anne Wilsdorf. I happen to know her because I'm a librarian and had the gréât opportunity to invite her in the librairy I used to work. She, Anne Wilsdorf, at my request, sent me this morning the picture I inserted in the Infobox. It has been used, certainly with her agreement, by the publisher La Joie de Lire, which doesn't mean I used it without permission !

Please don't delete it ! What can I do to prove it ? Do you want her to write to a specific e-mail address ?

--CoWeb (talk) 15:54, 20 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

--CoWeb (talk) 18:11, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merci d'avance --CoWeb (talk) 09:30, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

licences CC

Merci beaucoup, Laetitia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laetitiaduhamel (talk • contribs) 14:04, 25 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Shev123, as you may have noticed, Granada and I went to Eisenerz last weekend für COC. --Ailura (talk) 14:37, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ailura: I have noticed and it is great thing. 90 or 95 % of the nordic athletes have a picture and the future athletes also (most of the athletes at Eisenerz don't have a wiki page right now but will probably have in the next years). I have begin a list on my user page of nordic combined athletes and coachs who dont't have picture. I will try to do a wikidata search to complete it. Thanks to you and Granada ! --Shev123 (talk) 14:51, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can't find a complete list of the COC Results from the last years on the FIS website. If i get the notability rules of the german wikipedia right, the top 10 COC athletes (at the end of the season) plus every athlete with a top 3 position at any competition could theoretically have an article. --Ailura (talk) 15:29, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ailura:
For last year, here is the Results (you also have the french article fr:Coupe continentale de combiné nordique 2016). We have an article for all the seasons. All the results are also available on this website. We have mostly the same "notoriety criteria" on french wiki and polish wiki. --Shev123 (talk) 15:46, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

and we have to go again next year for the coaches :) --Ailura (talk) 10:47, 17 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ailura:
For next year, we will know in May but a woman continental cup is planned to begin in December 2017 or January 2018. You may have coaches and one of the first women competitions of nordic combined ! --Shev123 (talk) 11:34, 17 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sounds great, if they go anywhere near Austria, we'll try to be there. --Ailura (talk) 14:31, 17 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour,
--Shev123 (talk) 21:22, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

User:MusCastCat

I'm a little confused about the situation of the photos uploaded by User:MusCastCat that you've tagged with {{No permission since}}. The user has described these as "own work". Is there some reason to doubt that (e.g. somewhere outside of Wikipedia that the images seem to come from)? Otherwise, what distinguishes this from any other user's claim of own work? If I can't work out what's going on here, how is a brand new user supposed to work it out? - Jmabel ! talk 04:54, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Jmabel: These images were already deleted once (a few days ago) for copyright violation. These images (3D computer graphics) are tag at the bottom right and there a probably not free. There is an OTRS autorization for this image. The OTRS may be global for the 7 images. --Shev123 (talk) 08:41, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hey,

Just to let you know that this file is obviously from Google Maps and therefore it is very unlikely that the user has the rights to release it into a valid license. In this case it is better to mark directly as a copyright violation (in my opinion). :-)

Best regards,

--Shev123 (talk) 08:46, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand. This picture is publicly available on multiple websites, including www.servettehc.ch, club for which Mr. Coppin coached for 6+ years. The fact that these pictures are publicly available, and with a copyright notice added, should be enough to have it on Wikipedia. Don't be so pedantic. --Xsantolaria (talk) 17:53, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Xsantolaria:
Bonjour,
--Shev123 (talk) 21:35, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Charlotte Paccou-Jarraud:
Bonjour
--Shev123 (talk) 20:27, 17 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!

Dear Shev123,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,

Code issues in User:Shev123/common.js

Hi Shev123, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Shev123/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

I did not know Sens was the location. ««2ème Trial Sports Challenge Entreprises de Sens, Place de la République, Sens, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France, 5 October 2013, 16:08:41»» might be more clear.

FYI see https://pixabay.com/photos/nicolas-vuillermot-trial-sports-855591/

Crêperie Brocéliande in Sens is CLOSED, as well as Crêperie Brocéliande in Paris, is this a group of Crêperie or merely a common name?

No, it is not a group, it is only a common name. --Shev123 (talk) 17:10, 24 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Rosny aîné - Les astronautes - 1960.djvu. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Rosny aîné - Les astronautes - 1960.djvu]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by M2dct Fac2droit Nantes (talk • contribs) 22:45, 7 May 2020 (UTC) --M2dct Fac2droit Nantes (talk) 00:55, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@M2dct Fac2droit Nantes:
Bonjour,
--Shev123 (talk) 20:46, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

autorisation des photos

Bonsoir,

Cordialement — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lacarabosse (talk • contribs) 20:19, 16 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour,
--Shev123 (talk) 20:03, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Autorisation d'utilisation d'images

Bonjour Shev123

@Makemeheroinekonate:
Bonjour,

Bien cordialement

Tripack7

@Tripack7:
Bonjour,
--Shev123 (talk) 21:23, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Shev123

File:Jourdan Thibodeaux.jpg

Hello.

I thought that choosing the photo File:Jourdan Thibodeaux.jpg of this person from his personal Facebook page was permissible under certain copyright laws. Obviously, I was wrong about this and I have to learn more about copyright laws.

Since I don't know this person, let alone have his e-mail or any other contact, then this file should be erased.

Are uploads from Flickr permissible, since people uploading there, release their personal photos and other photos to the public domain under a free license? (For example, this person has a lot of photos there, but were released by other people.)

Yours sincerely, Sondrion (talk) 09:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Burdeau, 1879.djvu has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Problematic automatic(?) templating

Hello! Just for yuor information, this edit was probably a mistake. The image haven't been "posted on an external website" (at least not at the date of the upload): the description explicitely stated that the source was the office of J.E. (by email, though it's not explicitly stated, but kind of logical). Maybe this have happened to other images, too, and it'd be a shame if other editors would delete images based on mistakenly inserted templates. Thanks! -- grin 16:16, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Grin:
Hi,
I saw this image and I was going to add "missing permission" (no VRT tickets and it is not enough to say I have an autorization). Then, I noticed that you are an admin and I only put the licence review tag. I was nice because it was an upload of 2015. Pbrks was totally right to ask the image to deletion. --Shev123 (talk) 18:00, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well it was happy end, but still, the image contained all the sourcing information pretty detailed, don't you think? And why now, and not in 2015? I often wonder how people pick years and years old images to flag and expect uploaders to remember what was 7 years and thousands of uploads before. grin 14:02, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Grin:
Hi,
People on Commons are always asking for more. Some of my uploads were deleted because I didn't send VRT email even if I had an autorization... So now, I am following the rules (I don't know if t is written somewhere). The page about Johan Eliasch was created in 2021 on french wikipedia and I only saw this image at that moment. --Shev123 (talk) 20:20, 12 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately the warning templates are always disturbing, I have learned a long time ago that a personal friendly message works way better. Nevertheless, I honestly thank you for your help and your energy to prevent the image from falling prey to the deletionists. :-) Have a nice day! grin 11:20, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

User:Chezmarcel

Irwc (talk) 10:04, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Irwc:
Bonjour,

BarnabyAusten (talk) 08:33, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@BarnabyAusten:
Bonjour,
BarnabyAusten (talk) 15:12, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Julien Amey,

Thank you for your email. There are few problems with the permission, however.

1. I could not find the legal text of the "public copyright license" mentioned on the https://themontesinosfoundation.org/about-2 page; however it is irrelevant if a proper license from the copyright holder is sent via email.

2. Are you the photographer who made this photo or the person depicted? As the default copyright holder is the photographer, if the permission is send by somebody else than the photographer, we need an evidence that copyright has been transferred to the actual copyright holder by a contract or by operation of law.

3. As anybody can create an arbitrary gmail.com email address, we can accept permissions sent from such addresses ONLY if the address is mentioned on the copyright holder's site as one of the contact addresses. I can't find this email in the https://themontesinosfoundation.org/ website, however.

Yours sincerely, Andrzej Kamil Rybicki
