File:Prode Anselmo.jpg edit

File:Prode Anselmo.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Mantelle.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. Thanks for uploading File:Ritratto Coriolano.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:Castel-Boglione.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Castel-Boglione.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hello, Vides Ut Alta!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi! How can I edit the file description if you blocked me? If you check the chronology of the file, moreover, you'll see that I put the source when I uploaded it: "Stemma dei Caissotti di Chiusano e Cinaglio completo dei sostegni esterni da una bomboniera di porcellana". The bomboniera (wedding favor) has more than 100 years and I am its owner and its photographer... I think I own the rights of the uploaded photo quite enough!

Please let me know how can I exit this block that I find unfair, since you told me that I didn't put the source while I put it. Thank you) Vides Ut Alta (talk) 09:34, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Decline reason: "File infobox has data field "source". There you must show, where you took the image. Current image is more than 100 years old, so your statement "own work" is incorrect: you are not so old. You can add own photo, but that case the file has two sources and the other must be mentioned as well. Also that case the file has two authors: you as photographer and the depicted object's creator. Again, both must be mentioned. You were noticed a lot of times and you did not add sources, so users lost hope and blocked you. Your block lasts a week. If you after that will continue uploading files without source, then you can be blocked for longer time. Taivo (talk) 09:56, 20 September 2022 (UTC)"Reply

Dear Taivo and Ruthven, ok, I understand. I don't want to create any problem. I have been sharing my knowledge in Wikipedia for five years, but I still haven't learned the rights policy. Things went this way: I started uploading photos from my first page and I didn't think about the rights, no one told me anything and I continued. I always uploaded them while creating the pages, so the only way was to tick the "Opera propria (own work)" box (I still don't know how Upload Wizard works). The first time they told me something was about a photo taken by a 20th century illustration, so I thought it was a problem of authorship (maybe the heirs of the illustrator still owned the rights). Then, as I think you have seen, I had a huge "control" an year ago, that eliminated a lot of images that I had uploaded in the previous four years. In that occasion, I tried to study the right policy for the future, but honestly I didn't understand anything. For example, I thought that it was always possible to upload photos of monuments taken by me, and then I discovered that it exists the freedom of panorama! As you may see from the pages I have created since then, since I didn't understand well the rights policy I chose not to upload almost anything anymore. I tought it was the safer way. Sometimes I still uploaded something, in the cases that I knew nobody owned the rights apart from me (for example ancient paintings and coats of arm that I keep in my house) and this was one of these cases. I wish I explained you my good faith. Now, I understand the reasons of this block, but I would like in the future to go on uploading (in the right way) on Wikimedia Commons, for I think it is important to share open access images the same I do with knowledge on Wikipedia. I will wait the end of the block, but can someone explain me (maybe some italian admin) how the thing works? I would need a real discussion and not the guide that in the past I didn't understand. For example, if I shoot an ancient painting in a museum, can I upload the photo? If I take a photo of a page (for example the frontispiece) of an old book? And the most important thing: if I upload a photo and I own the rights, can I simply write in my language why the photo is right free or I have to use some specific informatic language, like own photo? For example, in the case for I have been blocked, the photo was mine, the object too and the coat of arms painter was dead by probably 100 years, and the real problem was that I didn't write well the source. If I wrote "the photo is mine, the object too and it is old", would it have been ok? Thank you for the attention. I hope someone will help me to become a rights-osservant uploader in the future :) Vides Ut Alta

Ruthven is a native speaker of Italian, but he did not answer, so I must try. There is no freedom of panorama in Italy. You must not upload photos about modern Italian buildings and sculptures into Commons. You must prove, that they are old, giving architect's or sculptor's name or at least creation year. "The object is old" is not enough. Copyright lasts in Italy 70 years from author's death. If author is unknown, then Commons demands 120 years from creation to be in public domain. This gives author 50 years for dying plus 70 years for copyright expiring. You see, "The building is old, because it has been here whole my life" is not enough. It is possible, that the building has been there during your whole life, but architect is not 70 years dead and the building is still protected with copyright.
In source field of infobox, you can use own photo or own scan, but if you take file from Internet, then URL link is needed to original file. In author field, if you do not know author, then Unknown is acceptable for old works. For self-made photos of old paintings two authors are needed: Vides Ut Alta as photographer and artist's name or "unknown" for artist. In description field, you can use any language, including Italian.
You can upload self-made photos about old objects in museums, even if museum prohibits photographing. You can upload scanned pages of old books, even if they are not self-scanned, because scanning does not create new copyright. But depicted object's copyright must be expired. Taivo (talk) 21:57, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Taivo, thank you a lot! I have one doubt about the things you explained: "You can upload self-made photos about old objects in museums, even if museum prohibits photographing.". How is the second part of the sentence possible? I have another important question to ask, if you could kindly answer: you said that "if you take file from Internet, then URL link is needed to original file". How can I know in which cases I can copy and paste a photo that I find on the internet and in which cases I can't? I mean, there are cases quite easy where the photos are declared rights-free (for example, talking about art, for famous paintings there is the "Web Gallery of Art" that already has open access photos) but in all the other cases (for example a photo of an old painting that I find in an article on the web about that painting or an exposition, or a photo of an ancient palace but taken by someone else and published on a website)? Thank you for your help. Vides Ut Alta — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 93.35.191.6 (talk) 14:23, 25 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
