Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Kategorie fotografií z Vinohradského hřbitova

Dobrý den, těší mne, že jste přidal na Wikimedia Commons velké množství fotografií z Vinohradského hřbitova. Chtěl bych vás ale upozornit na chybu, které se dopouštíte při jejich kategorizování, a sice zadávání příliš obecných (Category:Men from the Czech Republic) nebo dokonce neexistujících (Category:Actor, ty se poznají podle červených odkazů) kategorií. Díky tomu je pak bohužel riziko, že autoři článků o dotyčných osobnostech vaše fotofrafie na Commons nikdy nenajdou a ty zde tak zůstanou nevyužity. Doporučuji vám využívat nového nahrávacího formuláře, který napovídáním pomáhá hledat správné kategorie, či ještě lépe vhodné kategorie sám předem vyhledat ručně, třeba i využitím již nahrané fotografie podobné osoby. Opravil jsem zatím kategorie alespoň u vašich fotografií File:František Kožík hrob.jpg a File:Zdenka Švabíková.jpg a zvu vás, abyste se do úpravy kategorií u těch ostatních zapojil sám. Také jsem si všiml, že jste někdy nahrál vícero téměř shodných fotografií téhož náhrobního kamene, jen proto, že je na něm napsáno více různých osob. Toto také není nutné; lepším řešením by bylo nahrát jen jeden soubor, nazvat ho nějak souhrnně a pak tento bez obav použít ve více článcích a ve více kategoriích. Vedení diskuse

Na wiki je zvykem při vedeni diskuse oddělovat příspěvky jednotlivých účastníků odsazením - tak aby byl text přehlednější. Odsazení se v kódu Wikipedie dělá dvojtečkou. Například:

Obrovský - podpis

OK, děkuji za upozornění. Studoval jsem desítky vložených podpisů, některé jsou bez licence, licenci mají především kopie z publikací. Uvedený podpis není signaturou uměleckého díla, ani uměleckým dílem samotným, ani se nestal logem. Doplňuji však pro jistotu PD-signature tag. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. Karel Vaš - je to možné?

Dobrý den.

Z jedné Vaší fotografie mi přejel mráz po zádech (Hlávkova kolej Nov.2012.JPG). Je možné, že se Vám podařilo vyfotit Karla Vaše? Zemřel 8. prosince 2012, u fotografie je datum 17. listopadu 2012 (10:56:54). Všimněte si pána mezi Nečasem a Rychetským,, ten s brýlemi a do hněda laděným kloboukem. Karel Vaš údajně nebyl příliš zdráv a dožíval v domově důchodců v Praze, měl jsem za to, že se špatně pohyboval. O to víc mě fotografie překvapila. Co myslíte, může to být on? Jestli ano, tak se Vám podařil skutečně výjimečný snímek. Já nenašel Vašovu fotografii ze samého závěru života, ale jestli to není on, tak ten pán je mu velice podobný z doby kolem roku 2002, kdy Vaš stanul před soudem (nebyl odsouzen). Jak Karel Vaš vypadal

Dobrý den, děkuji za Vaše upozornění a námět téměř pro detektivní šetření! Při srovnání se známými fotografiemi K.V. je podobnost skutečně překvapující. Bohužel nemám z listopadové akce k dispozici lepší nebo i detailnější záběry, abychom mohli případně posoudit, zda může jít o osobu ve věku nad 90 let. V roce 2012 se tato osoba vyskytuje pouze na několika mých fotkách v časovém rozmezí 10.56 až 10.58, přičemž na záběru téhož místa v 11.01 již není. (Pozn.: Reálný čas je o hodinu posunut zpět - neměl jsem přestavený čas na aparátu). Zavěsím dnes nebo zítra na Commons ještě foto s názvem „Hlávkova kolej Nov.2012_2“, kde je vidět, že kdosi za P.Rychetským se opírá o hůl. Myslím však, že to byl Egon Lánský, stojící přímo za P.Nečasem. Pokud bychom chtěli spekulovat, teoretický důvod pro případnou účast K.V. by byl, neboť studoval dle dostupných informací na UK ve stejné době jako Jan Opletal, i když na jiné fakultě. Účast na listopadové akci je volná, bez pozvánek či kontroly. Přestože prostor, kde uvedená osoba zrovna stojí, je v oblasti zájmu přítomné ochranky veřejných činitelů, nebylo pro osobu typu „pamětník“ problém se tam dostat. Účastním se uvedené akce pravidelně již několik let a nafotím vždy cca 500 fotek. Zkoumáním starých záběrů jsem zjistil, že velmi podobná osoba v klobouku a brýlích byla přítomna i v roce 2010 – foto zavěsím dnes nebo zítra na Commons pod názvem „Hlávkova kolej Nov.2010“. I když je jasné, že potvrzení účasti K.V. by bylo velmi překvapující a sám to nepovažuji za příliš pravděpodobné, klíčem k ověření je dle mne případné zkoumání fotodokumentace pořízené dalšími účastníky akce (pokud by vstoupili do diskuse). Podstatným pak bude skutečnost, zda se tato osoba dostaví či nedostaví na akci v listopadu 2013. S pozdravem--David Sedlecký (talk) 15:53, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Díky za zprávu. Ty vnější znaky jsou skutečně na té fotce nápadné. Dnes se mi podařilo konečně zavěsit i foto z akce v roce 2010, druhé se nedaří, Upload Wizard je zřejmě stále přetížený. Ale na mé další dříve zavěšené fotce nazvané "Vzpomínka 1939.JPG" je také vidět, že tam stojí někdo s holí. Svolení autora bylo uvedeno autorem fotografie, kterým je David Sedlecký, již při nahrání snímku (Licence 3.0). Nejedná se o cizí dílo - autor fotografuje veřejně činné osoby ve veřejném prostoru a snímky na Commons prezentuje vždy pod uvedenou licencí. Dear Incnis Mrsi, your message is rather delayed and wrongly focused. Really a case of misunderstanding. The copyvio photo was yesterday deleted by the Commons administrator (thanks to him for quick action), as proven by myself (as the uploader of original photo), that it was pure copy, uploaded under different file name and with totally false data (name of photographer, date of origin). Therefore please do not mix two things together and use freely for all Wikipedia pages just this File:Tomáš Hudeček prosinec 2013.JPG, which is the only original duly licensed!!! Ahoj, prohledal jsem fotky z té akce v roce 2013, ale paní Vyskočilová tam bohužel nebyla, resp. možná byla někde zcela v pozadí, mimo kamery. Hi User:David Sedlecký, I am Olivia Arben. I learn't you're the one that uploaded this my image. I learnt you took the image yourself at an event and uploaded it here. Please, I humbly ask for your help in removing the image. I really don't want it on my wikipedia page. It's also causing some issues in Google search which I don't like. There's an ongoing discussion to have the image removed but all fingers are pointing to you as the image uploader and copyright owner.

I actually thought that Alan West my photographer owns the copyright but it seems I am wrong. The data shows you're the copyright owner and uploader of the image. Please, I really want it removed. Could you assist in this? I appreciate your anticiapted favorable response. I have also sent a message to the support team with regard to this issue. Thanks. I have taken this photo and several other photos at that event in London, being there in August 2017 namely in connection with Notting Hill Carnival.
