- Question Sorry Poco but the focus is on the tail. And this tail is not particularly exciting :-) The head is clearly out of focus. Animal fleeing is also less appealing than an animal approaching. Do you have another version of the same photo session? -- Basile Morin (talk) 02:01, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Basile Morin: I've sharpened the head, an improvement, I agree. I do have other shots of this session, like this one but in fact I enjoy the pose here and the empty background very much. It did not actually flee, if moved around. Poco a poco (talk) 08:01, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- The other one is a better candidate in my view. Although the lion is not fleeing, we can't really guess what it's doing and this picture showing a view from behind gives this impression -- Basile Morin (talk) 08:09, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well, ok, thank for your feedback, let's see what other reviewers mean between both versions Poco a poco (talk) 11:57, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I'm not really bothered by the fact that the head is not entirely in focus (it's sharp enough in my opinion), but there's no "wow" to me, maybe because the lion looks like he's fleeing. --Benji 16:22, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks for your review. Aperture F/10 and time 1 /250 s is the maximum combination I could get here, and only 100 mm focal length. Going closer would have scared the birds. Focus was of course intentional -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:24, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support I have told people about the corkscrew fallus, this image offers proof. As I understand it, the mallard's has barbs on it. It not a pretty picture, so to speak, but it documents something rarely observed, and the image brings into clear and sharp detail the evolution of a duck's fallus. --Needsmoreritalin (talk) 01:44, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, having browsed through the categories, I noticed we have incredibly few images of this type, and even fewer quality images. I totally agree this one will never make a poster for a living room :-) But it's also original and perhaps more educational than a bunch of solitary ducks walking or swimming on a pond. - August, By considering your suggestions I have made some changes. Is it OK? --Shagil Kannur (talk) 11:08, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Thank you for editing! The image was improved slightly. It has some more detail and proper EXIF data now. But the colour banding is still visible in the form a pixelated parts at the sky. Additionally it is cropped intensively from 21 megapixels down to 11.6 megapixels. So all in all I really love the scene with its composition and light, but technicaly this image might have trouble even becoming Quality Image so I can sadly not consider it FP.

- Support The original photograph was one of my personal favourites from Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 – it feels so authentic and is aesthetically very appealing because of the contrasts between light and dark and between warm and cold colours. But the original file was a bit noisy and oversaturated. Radomianin has generously created this edited version which greatly reduces the noise and also tones down the saturation a bit. (Yes, the reds are still very saturated, but IMHO realistic when we consider the combination of the vivid red paint on the wall with the warm light from the fire.) Therefore I am happy to nominate this edited version. – Aristeas (talk) 15:16, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose I really appreciate the straightforward composition and the atmosphere created by the lighting. However, the absence of any direct light results in a very low contrast between the foreground and the building. Just a touch of direct light on the water fountains would have helped to create separation and add depth. Additionally, I find the tightly cropped building on the far left somewhat distracting. --August (talk) 19:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose Quality is nowhere near FP-level. I suggest you withdraw this nomination. Wolverine XI 21:52, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Can you provide more specific feedback? What about the image is problematic? Needsmoreritalin (talk) 23:04, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you. Constructive criticism will assist me in nominating high quality images and in capturing better photographs. Needsmoreritalin (talk) 20:08, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- It has been six days since you stated you would provide more information about your objection to this photo as an FP. You haven't provided any specific concerns about the image, but your statement in opposition is very strongly stated. Your opposition is currently the only one for this nomination. If you are unwilling to elaborate, could you please withdraw your opposition? Needsmoreritalin (talk) 16:26, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

- Can you please try to avoid escalating this into uncivil territory? I'm only replying because you mentioned that this image has terrible quality, which I disagree with. Additionally, you didn't specify why you think the image has poor quality. The nomination is currently passing in QIC, so I'm confused about why you believe this image has terrible quality. Zzzs (talk) 03:27, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

- Oh, okay. I'll forgive you. However, I'll suggest to include a reason in your oppose votes so the author can use thr criticism to fix the image. Thanks in advance! Zzzs (talk) 22:15, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

OpposeTalking about quality, it is very good. For FP - background failed you here, black on black, i can see upper part of bird since its covered. At least some white middle-bellow helped. Also, i hope you wont use 100+ MB for each photo, its around 24 MPx, do we loose so much on jpeg !? --Mile (talk) 08:20, 20 August 2024 (UTC)- I see what you are saying. I did shoot at f/4 (Prime lens at 500mm without TC) to focus on the eyes and face of the adult ibis and the exchange of food. As for the PNG, I did a quick check and it seems like I'm the only dork using it. I use PNG for lossless compression, preservation of image quality and colors. Wikipedia's suggestion is JPG, so moving forward I will post JPGs. But my previously uploaded images, already uploaded, may appear on FPC as .PNG.
- Thank you for your thoughtful and considerate feedback. Needsmoreritalin (talk) 17:23, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, now leave as PNG, if you put jpeg over it will take another space so OK now. I will actually remove minus, to neutral. Checked again. --Mile (talk) 07:24, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Little bit of an odd image for here: I'd say it's oddly composed but very compelling. Passed En-wiki FPC easily, but Commons evaluates things differently. Vote as you see fit; I shan't take offense, but I would appreciate explanations, because, y'know, there's other images to consider, and having a good idea on how Commons stands helps with pre-filtering them. - Support For those not in the US, yes, this is actually a thing. In the early 19th century we were not as church-going as we are these days. Charismatic priests traveled from the cities to rural areas and started a variety of high-energy, exciting sects/movements. Those in turn gave way to another "awakening" that began to incorporate things like speaking in tongues, drinking poison, fire walking, faith healing, and yes, handling venomous snakes. It's dangerous garbage that actually hurts people. Worth a feature for good documentation, even if I'd rather it show one of the snake bites -- or the people in the audience with mangled hands and missing body parts (or missing family members). — Rhododendrites talk | 16:24, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

- Support as creator & nominator. There is a lot of detail in this image, but when viewed at 100% zoom, the sharpness should be OK. In my browser, the "original image" link on its page defaults to a much higher zoom (200%???) in which the sharpness of the trees is not the greatest. The rock face on the left foreground is naturally wet year-round and had a trickle of running water behind a layer of ice, which is why some of the ice against the rock face is dark while icicles hanging close to the rock face are bright from the sunlight shining through them. Image was taken in Nikon RAW format and only editing adjustments were to increase both highlight and shadow protection, increase overall brightness just a little, increase saturation just a little, and change white balance from "auto" to "natural light auto". -- AHeneen (talk) 06:04, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

- Question Very good composition. But I think it is over-sharpened. Is this intentional? --August (talk) 20:39, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- No. I'm not quite sure what you mean by over-sharpened. Isn't sharpness fixed when shooting? I disclosed the edits made to the image and the highlight/shadow protection was adjusted so there's more detail in hightlights (especially all the white snow in bright sunlight) and lowlights. AHeneen (talk) 21:48, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- It depends on your camera settings and your software when editing. Sharpening can be applied in both stages. August (talk) 22:52, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
