Image Tagging Image:15cmK39Bild1.jpgEdit
|
Thanks for uploading Image:15cmK39Bild1.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. -Nard the Bard 06:37, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm trying to get the original photographer to release the images: see Ticket#2008070810018556.Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing imagesEdit
Hello, Sturmvogel 66!
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
-
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
-
-
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

- How can the source not be specified? The photo is PD because it appeared in a US government publication back in 1942, namely the US Military Intelligence Digest exactly as I specified when I uploaded it. Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 22:42, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:AtlantaXSection.pngEdit
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:AtlantaXSection.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
Autopatrol givenEdit
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. File:ExeterCroppedAerial.jpgEdit
Hallo, es wäre schön, wenn Du den Dateien sinnvollere Namen geben könntest, als z.B. "ExeterCroppedAerial". So gab es bisher fünf HMS Exeter und es gibt über 20 Städte, die so heißen. Hier habe ich vorgeschlagen, die Datei in "HMS Exeter (68) at anchor in Balboa harbor on 24 April 1934" umzubenennen. Danke und Gruß Cobatfor (talk) 19:57, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- Can you translate to English please? If you want to rename the photo go ahead, I don't care.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 22:19, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- Dear "Stormbird" (=Sturmvogel in German or a Petrel), it would be nice if you could give your files more descriptive names. For example "ExeterCroppedAerial" is inconclusive as there were five HMS Exeter and some 20 cities named Exeter. In this case I got it renamed File:HMS Exeter (68) at anchor in Balboa harbor on 24 April 1934.jpg. However, it would be nice if you would give desctiptive file names when you load up. That would save work. Thank you and cheers Cobatfor (talk) 21:43, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Fair enough.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 23:46, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
File:FriendshipPortNouakchott.jpgEdit
|
File:FriendshipPortNouakchott.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Use of "no source"Edit
You recently added the no source template to several files which clearly have a source. Please avoid doing that, it puts these public domain files at risk of deletion by accident. Thanks --Fæ (talk) 15:50, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- How are they public domain? They've got zero provenance as I can't find any evidence of being published before 1923 to satisfy either US or Russian copyright requirements for being public domain. There are hundreds of these types of photos of Russian ships on Commons and it's incredibly frustrating not to be able to use them; so if you've got any information that confirms public domain please share them so I can add them to their articles.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 16:00, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
