Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

File:สัตว์หิมพานต์.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions. And also:

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:MISS UNIVERSE 2018 Photo Gallery by Peak Hora (4).jpg edit
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:MISS UNIVERSE 2018 Photo Gallery by Peak Hora (4).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Categorizing edit
Hello, PEAK99. I have noticed during the last couple of months or so that you often put too many categories on your files. For example, your moon photographs were in all of these:
The third category is a child category of the first two, so the first two weren't needed. To read about this issue, see COM:OVERCAT. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:48, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Good idea edit
It is much easier to spam a general category like Cultural heritage monuments in Thailand when you start each filename with "(2019)". The first page is exactly filled with your images from File:(2019) King Prajadhipok Museum 1.jpg to File:(2019)วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลาราม 3.jpg. Well ... almost. Image 200 of 200 is File:0000202 - พิพิธภัณฑ์เรือรบหลวงแม่กลอง ป้อมพระจุล 002.jpg by someone else. Don't you want to upload just one more? This is already quite good. In category Spam race you can see how you can get even better. It's good to see that there are smart people who know that Commons is just like Google. It's all about being on the first page. If you completely fill it, even better! Do you work in advertisement? Watchduck (quack) 19:28, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:MICKEY GALLERRY Photographs by Peak Hora.jpg edit
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:MICKEY GALLERRY Photographs by Peak Hora.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".
Thank you! |
Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff edit
Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:
- I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
- Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
- Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.
Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!
All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Reminder: User Group Meeting this Saturday edit
Dear Commons Photographers User Group member,
This is a quick reminder that our second virtual meeting will take place this Saturday, September 26. The agenda entails presentations about drone photography, about the story behind a featured picture, and about the future of LRMediaWiki. We'll also discuss photographers’ contacts with the Wikimedia Foundation and the election of representatives for our user group. You'll find information about all of this on the event page:
I'm also inviting you to share some information about yourself and your photography work with other members of the user group on our new membership list:
I hope you're well during these difficult times. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 00:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
File:Mickey Mouse Photographs by Peak Hora.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Question from the CPUG Board edit
Dear user group member,
I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.
With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.
That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.
However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:
Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022
We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.
Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023 edit
Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.
All the best to you, your family, and friends! --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you edit
Dear fellow Commons photographer,
I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.
At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.
All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
