Heads-up
editHi, as colleague on upload projects, I thought I'd drop you a personal heads-up for my request for adminship, today being the last day for views. RFA's tend to only have a small proportion of the community taking part, so it can be difficult to judge if this is representative. --Fæ (talk) 13:12, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
Autopatrol given
editHello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:54, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Category:Photographic atlas of the diseases of the skin a series of ninety-six plates, comprising nearly two hundred illustrations, with descriptive text, and a treatise on cutaneous therapeutics (1905)
editTo my mind this category name is way too long to be manageable, and is unlikely to be necessarily so to avoid confusion. I propose renaming it to Category:Photographic atlas of the diseases of the skin ... and a treatise on cutaneous therapeutics (1905) or maybe Category:Photographic atlas of the diseases of the skin (author name, 1905). Please let me have your comments; cheeers, Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:25, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Gardening catalogs
editHi and welcome to sorting and editing! I had 4000 images dumped in Category:Seed catalogs last year and spent a lot of time organizing that category and Category:Gardening catalogs I have combined Catalog Descriptive catalogs and they appear in both main catelogs. I have combined many similar named subcategories so please take a look and see what is there. Such as Cat:All annual catalogs or Ellwanger & Barry's general catalogue for all of their listings Cat:Illustrated Gardening catalog categories etc etc. Thanks for helping out. If you have any questions let me know. WayneRay (talk) 00:13, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
Old bird magazine illustrations
editHi Hilohello - almost all of these are identified at source; all you need to do is look at the archive.org original to get the name (usually in English, but then just look up the sci name for the right category), no reason to put them in Category:Unidentified birds ;-) MPF (talk) 12:33, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Apple categorizations
editHello Hilohello! Just wanted to thank you for categorizing some of the apple shots I have been uploading from the National Fruit Collection. Just so you don't see the backlog constantly increasing and get demoralized, I wanted to let you know that there are still about 1100 left to upload (approx 2500 in total). Your categorization effort helps a ton! Cheers, Storkk (talk) 15:34, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. To say thank you for your time, we are giving away 20 Wikimedia T-shirts to randomly selected people who take the survey.[survey 2] The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.

Tichnor Brothers postcards and dates
editHi, I noticed you've been adding some "19x0s interiors" and similar to some of the Tichnor Brothers postcards. This is a great idea, and I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the Tichnor Brothers postcards for chronology reference category, where I've collected some of the cards that can be more-or-less pinpointed as to date of issue. This gives a general timeline for estimating the date of the cards by the serial numbering scheme, since the original archive metadata simply uses the not-very-helpful (and not even accurate) "between circa 1930 and circa 1945" date for all of the cards. A look through this category might help with sifting things into decades, at least. --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 07:58, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello Hilohello,
I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.
Cheers,
Hi, Hilohello, going through the images, I noted this title, so I was wondering if the category should be renamed or if there is an incorrect interpretation at my end. Thank you for your time. :) Lotje (talk) 05:00, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing what the problem is? The title of the book is, indeed, "Mighty Mikko etc." and it was published in 1922. Though, strictly speaking, the title should be formatted like "Mighty Mikko: A Book of Finnish Fairy Tales and Folk Tales" but that's the Internet Archive's problem. Category:Illustrations_of_British_entomology has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

book and chapter subcats
editHi! You have been removing files from the book category and leaving them to the subcat.
Please don't do that with the books. It should not be necessary to know the chapter that the image is in to find the image via category.
If you would like a task to do instead of that, just let me know. There are plenty of messes here (involving books) that could use a good catting.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 20:07, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- So, I am going to undo your edits and I hope that it doesn't affect our relationship in a bad way.
- Also, just a note, there is a really big difference between scientific illustration and "art". Before cameras, they used drawings and paintings and some are very beautiful but the purpose was to be illustrative and scientific. Art has a different purpose, one that is not as easy for me to define as scientific illustration is. So, while I have no problem with whatever your definition of art is, I will have a problem if you remove files from "illustration" cats and put them into "art" cats.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 20:18, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Hilohello: Perhaps where you come from, it is okay fine to do things to peoples work as they are working on it without a mention or whatever. I am sorry about that.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 20:30, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

ANEFO photographer categorisations
editHi, thanks for helping with these, as there are tens of thousands of them!
However please don't move them into the "photographer by year" categories. This isn't a strong or useful categorisation, compared to putting them into the more specific "Doing <foo> in <Bar> in <year>" categories. Also it then means that they won't ever get processed into those specific categories, as they're too split up to find and process efficiently. There are so many of these that doing them efficiently is vital, otherwise it's just never going to get done.
There are a few, once the photographer categories are near-emptied, where we might put them into "photographer by year", because there's just nothing else better that we can do. But these are rare. Also we can usually put them into "Netherlands by year" at the very least, because we know that much. Anyway, this should be the exception.

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category
editEnglish · français
When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:La Capresse des Colonies MET 2006.112d. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 22:22, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
