Commons:Commons Conference 2018

Commons Conference will not take place in 2018! Any ideas for a future edition are still welcome.

This page is intended to gather ideas for the first Commons Conference in 2018. Everybody is invited to contribute ideas on how to make it happen.

Scope edit

The users on Commons are currently split into many different communities; be it by language or regarding their main field of work on Commons (e.g. photography, categories, etc.). Thus, the main goal of this proposed conference should be, to increase international collaboration on Commons and create a stronger sense of a Commons community.

New Jersey edit

United States Visa Policy map
    • + Good infrastructure (transit/internet access)
    • - problematic visa situation for many potential participants (as seen at former conferences in North America)
    • - expensive travel for Europeans

  • When the overlap is that small it is hard for me to see how that reduces costs. Photographers are not likely to participate in the hackaton and vice versa. And doing two different things that closely is rather complicated for organizers. Kruusamägi (talk) 11:44, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Estonia in May 2018 edit

    • Local organizers and photographers
    • In Schengen Area (like Spain; see map); easy to travel from Europe and Russia
    • Most of the local expenses could be covered from outside sources
    • Relatively unphotographed
    • Good infrastructure
    • Relatively cheap
    • Safe

Dear @Cmglee: The current situation in Tunsia is secure,Tunisia's crime rating is low; police and military forces have increased their effectiveness in recent years.the current problems of risk are at the level of the borders between Algeria and Tunisia but for the rest of the regions the current situation is favorable (see this link): https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/tunisia Ayoub Fajraoui (talk) 08:32, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
