Images on wikipedia
I once again really need your help as the user One Night in Hackney, who we have run into numerous times on here with his attempts to have my images deleted, is having all the images of politicians removed from various wikipedia articles. I was wondering if you could please re add these images to their articles as now the articles either have no pictures or pictures that are of a poor quality, some of the images you actually fixed and improved yourself:

- Vince Cable.jpg
- MICHAEL GOVE NEW HEADSHOT.jpg
- James Purnell.jpg
- Margaret Hodge.jpg

- John Hutton.gif
- Gareth Thomas2.jpg
And probably the most important of all Ed Miliband.jpg which is Ed Milibands Official Ministerial Image from Government.
I really am sorry for bothering you like this, but you're the only editor it seems who is actively trying to help wikipedia and wikimedia by making it better whereas other editors delete everything because they think they are right and therefore know more about everything. - I'm not just going to do what you like, I've added a lot of these and reverted removals of OGL files that have not been deleted, but unless the images are much better or the only ones of a person, I won't add them—they can easily be found by regular editors in a topic, through the person's category or a search. —innotata 20:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

- All of these images are their official ministerial pictures from the government departments, so they are better as most have pictures that someone has taken and they have been snapped whilst halfway through talking which looks silly. Hi Innotata - saw you'd put this back in Cat:Unidentified Passer on an apparent grey crown; it looks good Italian to me (as would be expected from the location), I think the 'grey' is just an artefact caused by reflection from the bright blue background - MPF (talk) 10:38, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Ministry of Defence Ministers
Hi I went on the page of Gerald Howarth after reading about him in a paper and saw his image and that you uploaded it. I was wondering how would I upload the pictures of the new Defence Ministers such as Andrew Murrison? Education Minister's Images
I saw on your user page that you are trying to get the images of Sarah Teather, Nick Gibb and Lord Hill, well I have some good news as a Freedom of Information request to the Department of Education asking for the images of these Ministers under the Open Government Licence was successful and the images have been released here:[7]. Also asked for and released were the images of the newer Ministers: Matthew Hancock, Elizabeth Truss, David Laws and Edward Timpson, which have also been released and D of E said the images could be taken from here [8] under the OGL. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.

- Yes, it looks good now. It's not hard to identify sparrows. Passer montanus is easy to tell apart, so are male Passer domesticus. Young Passer domesticus are tricky: they can be mistaken for females (but they wouldn't be building nests and can be separated by beaks), and can not be sexed if they have male and female marks. - It's not internalisation, it's "internationalisation", or more accurately "automatic translation", making sure people from other languages can read it. If you disagree with the template wording, why not ask for the template to be changed instead? Upload logs are original in the sense that they represent the original Wikimedia copy, but I wouldn't mind a different wording. —innotata 15:51, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Hey there! I'm in the process of researching some unanswered emails, following the recent upgrade of the OTRS software. One of those emails is in regards to the above noted image. At this point, it is not clear whether authorization was ever received for this image. Note additionally that the OTRS ticket number is nonexistent. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Innotata,
The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
- In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
- In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
- In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Open Government Licences
I have noticed that you are uploading images of politicians through the OGL! I am going to be emailing the various Government departments via a freedom of information and then ask can they send me hi res images of the various ministers who have worked in that department since 2010. I was hoping would you be able to upload those images to wikipedia once they have been sent to me as you seem to have a great knowledge on how to do those things. Images from the PA National Guard
Hello Innotata,
recently I nominated two images, that you uploaded from Flickr (this and that) for deletion. Are you sure that those photos are public domain? According to the license at Flickr, it's creative commons but without commericial use. I would like to use more pictures of the Pennsylvania National Guard for illustrating the article about PA-Governor Tom Corbett. At Flickr, I contacted to National Guard via mail and requested for a license modification there, but there was no response till yet. Perhaps you know more about the licensing. - Any works created by employees of the U.S. federal government, including servicemembers, during the course of their official duties (for servicemembers, this means all photos taken on the job) are public domain. Some photos posted on the National Guard photostream may be taken by non-servicemembers, and I can't remember whether exceptions apply in the case of state duty, but these were clearly official U.S. Air Force photos (and I think the photographer is not a Guard member). —innotata 18:46, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

This images are tagged as being available under the OGL. The source for the images is the GOV.UK webpage such as https://www.gov.uk/government/people/brandon-lewis. While this page contains a 216x140px thumbnail of a quite different photograph of Brandon Lewis, it does not (currently) contain the 7.21MP image on Commons. By altering the URL I can locate a 960x640 larger version. I can find a thumbnail of the Commons photo on this archived page and that page links to a Flickr page that is no longer available. The Flickr album here has the different photo in it, and it is only licensed CC ND 2.0 which isn't suitable for Commons.
Can you find the URL where you actually found the JPGs that are uploaded to Commons. Currently, it doesn't look like these images have OGL licences and may need to be deleted. -- Colin ([[User talk:Colin|int:Talkpagelinktext]]) 11:36, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
- See the Controller of HMSO: all works of UK government agencies are under the OGL, with the only exceptions being those specifically laid out by the National Archives. The images were directly used on the gov.uk pages, and gov.uk specifies all images are OGL unless otherwise specified (including those from normally exempted agencies). —innotata 16:43, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
- We still need the URLs where you found the JPGs, otherwise the "source" isn't correct. The fact that a page has a similar thumbnail doesn't constitute a source. As I commented at Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Open Government Licence, we have two good sources that state that images of identifiable people are explicitly excluded from the OGL. The link you gave was dead, but this archived link is similar to the current UKGLF and section 7 covers the offer/exclusions. This is not just the exclusions mentioned in the OGL but also a large list of government departments and bodies that have a "delegation of authority" listed here. Further, as I noted on the DR, the fact that when explicitly publishing images on Flickr, the government uses CC ND-NC licenses strongly suggests that such images are not subject to OGL. It would be useful if you could contribute to the DR with sourced quotes to support your position. Hi Innotata - any thoughts on these? File:130518 Spatz 1.jpg, File:130518 Spatz 2.jpg, File:130518 Spatz 3.jpg (all the same individual). I'm thinking hybrid House x Italian, rather than Italian as labelled, as #3 shows it has a grey wash on the crown. Unless you say otherwise, I'll move them to Cat:Passer hybrids shortly. - @MPF I'm not sure, but it looks much more like an Italian Sparrow, and a lot of why it's so grey is that it hasn't completely worn out its feather tips. I think its location is slightly south of the hybrid zone. (People talk about the thin hybrid strip… but compared to their southern compatriots, Italian Sparrows well south of the active interbreeding strip look a lot more like House Sparrows. - There aren't enough that subcategories are necessary, but feel free to make them. In the case of this photo, I'm not sure whether it's a female or a young bird; this isn't a species that I'm familiar with, it's just fairly easy to identify. (Illustrations) is the suffix that the taxonomists use for their images which look like art but are not. Please do not move those things around unless you understand the difference. - With that definition, everything here is art. Scientific illustrations, while sometimes very beautiful, had the purpose of description (before photographs). "In art" should be reserved for those things which the species is secondary.

Masculinised female duck
