Rollback

I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:37, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Ktr101!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Categories for MBTA images

Hey. It's massively cool that you're uploading images of MBTA stations; we can always use more pictures. However, if you could be just a hair more careful with categories, that would be cool. The MBTA system has a pretty extensive file directory; all four Green Line branches have their own categories, and many stations do as well. (Park Street Station already had its own category; there was already a Green Line "E" Branch as well although your picture gave me enough to populate a category for Prudential). If you could take 30 seconds before you upload to make sure there's not a more accurate category to put them in, that would be great.

Have a great day, and continue with the uploads! Cheers,Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:29, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Jet over Neptune Road, East Boston, Massachusetts.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:Zonta International logo.svg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Zonta International logo.svg) and the above demanded information in your request.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Category:Kentucky_Kingdom

Kentucky Kingdom has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

You are now an image-reviewer

Note that you cannot review your own uploads.

Additionally, note that you are rapidly reaching the limit to user rights that can be assigned to you. Although 2000 contributions is on the very light side for what I'd expect to see in an admin candidate, when you hit 3000 or 4000 you should consider a run.

God, I can't believe that I just recommended you for adminship. I clearly must be losing it.   Sven Manguard Wha? 19:25, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. I see you uploaded the chapter logos for WM Boston. If you have the ability and time, would it be possible to upload logos (or other images such as banners, barnstars, etc.) for Wikimedia Cascadia? I am not familiar with how to create similar logos, so I made an appeal for assistance here. If you are not able to help, no worries, just had to ask! File:Sam the Minuteman.svg

File:Sam the Minuteman.svg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:UBC Aerial View.jpg

When there is only 1 or 2 or 3 images from a flickr account, this is possible evidence for flickrwashing. I told Admin Lymantria about this image from a flickr account with only 2 images. He somehow found that the image was stolen (ie. a flickrwash) from a website. I did not mark the image...and Lymantria filed a DR here. (the picture date is January 2, 2013 in the infobox) The image also has no camera metadata. Commons cannot open itself to lawsuits by the real copyright owner whose image was stolen by a flickrwashing account with only a few images sadly. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:36, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Oh god, I completely forgot about the fact that people do that, as I haven't encountered this in probably a year and a half. Sorry about that! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 13:03, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
 • Just a comment. Freedom of Panorama (FOP) rules vary from country and in the United Arab Emirates there is no FOP. That is why I had to create this DR for an image which you passed. The image is far to close to the building for De Minimis to apply here as the building is hardly a trifle in the picture. PS: You're doing a great job marking images on Commons. Wish there were more of you here as I'm quite busy. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:49, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Odd errors with mobile upload

Hey, I've noticed a couple odd errors with some of your mobile uploads. Files like File:Coming in over Boston Harbor.jpg have no date listed, and "temporary description text". I have no experience with the app - proud owner of an old-school flip phone here - so i figured I'd let you know. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 14:26, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I did those early on in the app's development, so a lot of what occurred was me beta testing everything. You're not the only one to notice it though, and I'm thinking that I may have to go back and correct them in the future, if it is as big of a problem as it looks like it is. Oddball photo requests in southeastern Massachusetts

I left some oddball photo requests for John Phelan to put on his long-term hitlist. Largely abandoned stations plus a couple modern bus stations and layover yards. I figured I'd let you know in case you happened to be about the area gathering photos and were interested in grabbing some. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:00, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Darn, I wish I saw that two and a half weeks ago, as I biked right through the Falmouth location! I also just realized that I have station photos in the Bourne area that I took last summer, so I might as well upload those while I am thinking about it. I also did re-discover some photos of the Falmouth station that I have, including the raised platform, so I will also do that now. It would be cool to go back and photograph around the trail goes around the still-existent track, although it might be an odd thing to request at this time. Hi, can you have a look at this image. You confirmed OTRS permission, but there is still no license. Thx. --JuTa 20:04, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Please be careful if you confirm a permission. In this case the ticket is definitely not a valid permission. Jcb (talk) 20:55, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
You're right, and I definitely messed up that one and shouldn't have taken it due to my lack of experience at the time. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 19:14, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

File:GALAXY Note 8.0.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

Request for Spanish version of File:Wikimedia New England mobile logo.svg

Hi! Are you interested in making a Spanish version of File:Wikimedia New England mobile logo.svg? It needs to say "Wikimedia Nueva Inglaterra". A Spanish version of File:Wikimedia New England logo.svg would also be desireable.

Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 05:47, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

I'll start asking around, as I didn't actually create the original one, but have just been modifying the original one. Is there a specific site that you have in mind for this, as I am interested to see where it would be used. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 18:58, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! It would be used at this meta page: Wikimedistas de Nueva Inglaterra. Immigration from Hispanic countries makes Spanish an important language for US-related projects. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:44, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

User licensing template

Hello Ktr101,

Any user template including license template (such as or other CC license, or any commons-compatible license) MUST be SUBST:'ed, otherwise bot will tag your image as No license. (See history of File:2nd Annual Wikimedia New England General Meeting, 11.JPG) I have susbt'ed that image, but please fix the remaining. Thanks, — Revi 15:41, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

This is a policy, and you should follow it. I'm reverting your edit. — Revi 07:29, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
This is your last warning: If you ignore and revert me against COM:USER, I will be going to COM:AN/U. — Revi 04:47, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Look, I saw that you added the licensing template to my page, and I decided to revert it because I figured that since it was used on hundreds of other pages, it would make much more sense to have it where I could easily modify the template while it is still new. Just because I had no idea what this policy was beforehand does not give you the right to threaten to bring a user to AN/U, because there is a difference between malicious intent and trying to figure out what I am going to do with my own images in terms of licensing. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 20:41, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Your way of using licensing template will make bot tagging files as no license because there is no license template on file page, and it will make search engines impossible to know license. Still, you can move your notice part to User:Ktr101/Notice or somewhere, and transclude it on User:Ktr101/License with license template, and subst it. — Revi 22:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Your e-mail to Russavia

Kevin,
this is just to let you know that the e-mail you sent to @Russavia is currently being investigated by OTRS administrators. As far as I am aware, what they are concerned about is your continued use of the pronoun "we" – would you mind explaining to me (I) on whose behalf you wrote that e-mail? In particular, as a Commons contributor and administrator, I would be interested in learning why, and on what basis, did you write:

From this point forward, any images, categories, templates, pages, or anything else created by you on any Wikimedia sitewith the intention of circumventing your ban will be deleted immediately, without prejudice.

As far as I know, you have no community consensus to delete anything from Wikimedia Commons, and none of this has been discussed with this community; I would therefore welcome an explanation why you thought it fit to speak on behalf of this community, or on that matter, anyone other than yourself. Please be aware that your e-mail is available in its entirety at pastebin.com for anyone to read. Thank you for your time, odder (talk) 21:01, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear Ktr101,

Could you please reply to this ticket? Normally I would just pick it up but the way you responded to their first email makes me reluctant to act. Natuur12 (talk) 16:58, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Because I found the way you dealth with this ticket a bit strange I decided to check a couple of your older tickets. ticket:2015020210013629 requires action. The advice you gave is incorrect, you never marked the files as permission confirmed and the ticket is invalid. ticket:2015020110006406 is also invalid, permission statement comes from the subject, not the photographer. ticket:2015013010018583 is also a bit strange. You ask them to provide a link to the photograph while it is added in the attachment. ticket:2015013010010787 is also invalid. Again permission from the subject and you never informed the uploader that the file was marked as permission confirmed or something similar. I only took a quick look at some of your tickets and it worries me. Is there something I can do to help so situation like this don't occur anymore? Natuur12 (talk) 17:29, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
I somehow lost the first ticket and thought someone else finished it for me, but I'll go ahead and finish it up now. I think the next one might have been from a quick search, so I should have paid a bit more attention in that one. The next one mentioned the sole owner, so I assumed it was transferred to the subject, based on the wording of the permission, and thus assumed good faith there. The next one was because I forgot to search it, but I'll add the tag now. I can resolve the last one if you want so let me know. In terms of the above, I'm planning on slowing down to make sure that I do not repeat these mistakes in the future, so let me know if you find anything else and I will try to fix it immediately. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
I believe this search shows all images you have ticketed on Commons, giving a total of 31 over 2 years remaining undeleted. Please let me know if this is inaccurate. The error rate for an OTRS volunteer publicly representing our project on copyright is high, especially in conjunction with previous errors on copyright raised for your own images. Do you understand why this worries many Commons volunteers and can undermine trust in how the OTRS system allows access to the Commons queue for copyright verification? -- (talk) 10:25, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
ticket:2015020110006406 is also invalid. The permission statement comes from the subject. When the subject sends in a declaration that he wants to release a file under a free license we should always ask how they became the copyright holder. Most of the time they just bought the photograph or the photographer granted them a license to use the photograph. In both cases the subject doesn't have the right to license the intellectual property of the photographer.
When dealing with work for hires you need to be careful. Bands for example often believe that they are the copyright holder via a work off hire doctrine or some other construction but if you ask about the details it becomes clear that they merely have the right to use the photograph. When dealing with companies and universities this is seldom the case and they in fact did make sure that they are the copyright holder. But still, always ask how they became the copyright holder of a work.
If someone send you the photograph but doesn't provide you with a link don't worry. Just download it at your computer and try to upload it via the upload wizard. The upload wizard will give an error and will provide you a link to the file location if it was already uploaded before. Beware, this doesn't always work. Always add a note to the ticket which contains the link. This an safe you a lot of time and it makes it easier to understand what happened for fellow agents. If you are dealing with gmail, hotmail etc it is smart to make some notes at the ticket about how you validated the emailadress. I know that Fae for example always documented very clearly what he did and why he did it.
And last but not least. OTRS has a "watchlist". It is very educational to watch how other agents deal with tickets. Especially the tough once.Natuur12 (talk) 11:27, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Commons mobile app is alive and kicking :-)

I took the liberty to remove the "historical" tag as the project is very much alive, actually WMF staff plus me plus a full-time intern are currently working on it, see Commons_talk:Mobile_app :-) Cheers! Syced (talk) 01:53, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Thank goodness, as I thought it was down when I was unable to upload an image earlier in the month. Thanks for the hard work, as I cannot wait to see what comes out of this iteration! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 08:09, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Regretfully, I have been pushed into asking for an independent review of your license reviewer right. It would have been nicer to be able to leave a comment for your consideration without taking it any further. Feel free to comment at COM:AN. Thanks -- (talk) 12:42, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Ktr101/common.js

Hi Ktr101, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

 1. You edited User:Ktr101/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
 2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
 3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
 1. ISSUE: line 103 character 53: ['name'] is better written in dot notation. - Evidence: groupPages[query.allmessages[am]["name"].replace("grouppage-","")] = query.allmessages[am]["*"].replace(":","Project:");

File(s) appeared in Category:Language templates with no text displayed

Hello Ktr101, it seems that your latest changes or uploads of the file(s) Edsc2.jpg broke a template. This assumption has been made because the file(s) appeared in the maintenance Category:Language templates with no text displayed. To fix this issue please check this category for further information. If the file(s) is/are not contained in the maintenance category anymore someone else already did the work and you can ignore this message. Thank you for your cooperation. --ArndBot (talk) 19:21, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

A discussion has been raised on the OTRS mailing list that you are not who you claim to be, so any claims to copyright ownership over those images are effectively null and void. As such, I have tagged the images for deletion as copyright violations, as you do not have ownership over their respective copyrights. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 06:41, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
