Hi, I saw you had a native arabic sign on the Swedish wiki and tried to leave you a message on your Arabic page but failed (is it locked?). Anyway some users on the Swedish wiki are having a dispute over what a sign says in Arabic and I'm trying to solve the issue. I was wondering if you could tell me what the Arabic text on this picture says? [1] More specifically does it say Assyrian like the English text or rather Syrian? Arabic Drama Series

Hi Rami, a little over than two years ago, I was the MD of two production companies. Both; one way or another, were owned by the Government of Dubai. I found in my possession a couple of hundred original photos in hard print of at least two series. They are of famous Jordanian and Syrian actors. I practically was the executive producer of these series, and have employed the photographers to take these photos and paid them fully for their services, as this is standard procedure in film and TV production. These photos are created for publicity and free distribution.

The problem here is that those two companies have been closed down. and I was personally in charge to liquidate both companies. The photos are practically mine now. No one has any ownership claim over them. The series themselves were deposited at Dubai TV for safekeeping.

I think these photos would be extremely helpful if I managed to upload them to Commons. I need your advice of what to do! many thanks indeed.--Nasib Bitar 23:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

deprecated function in your monobook.js

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

What exactly is the reason that this file is considered to be public domain? I know that the original author has died long ago. However some people claim copyright on the scans of historic maps (like people claim copyright on photos). Did you ask the person who provided the scans whether the person claims to have copyright on the scans and agrees to the license?

I have a new request for you (if you're ok)! Could you please check the source of this file? I've warned the uploader after multiple copyvios (images grabbed on websites), and it looks to me as if s/he has added the license tag only not to have issues with this one. I'm unable to check whether this picture found on a blog (itself using various copyvio images) is truly "a work of the US Federal Government"... 1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

Jastrow and I are working on autotranslating {{Meta information museum}}, the meta-template we use for many museums, like {{Information Louvre}}. Could you please help us find Arabic translations for every tag name:

   * artist/maker
   * description
   * dimensions
   * credit line
   * accession number
   * location
   * source/photographer
   * references
   * other versions

"Credit line" is mainly about the mode of acquisition: what collection does it come from? Did it join the collections by gift, purchase, on loan, etc.?

Those are just images from a catalogue brochure which was send out in thousands and I have the permission of the company who created the catalogue... You deleted an image although there's no problem with its copyright

Dear Tarawneh, The image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lepage_Parlement_Europeen.jpg comes from the European Parliament. The legal notice of European Parliament authorizes the use of this picture for "any non-commercial purpose". But you deleted the image. Does that mean that wikipedia has a commercial purpose ? Does that mean that an article about Corinne Lepage on Wikipedia has a commercial purpose ? I don't understand why the picture was deleted and would like to have further explanation. Hi Tarawneh, I think I have understood : the picture cannot be uploaded on wikicommon, because any file on wikicommon must be entirely free of any copyright. As this picture is not entirely free of copyright (in case of commercial use), it cannot be uploaded on wikicommon. In these conditions, thank you for having deleted the pic ! Everything's OK !

Can you tell me why you are deleting my pictures from wikimedia commons for images like CB100 rounded 2.jpg since they are my images? Can you explain how this is supposed to work?

I can do this but I have to ask the question of why you even bother to ask me if they are my images in the first place if you are going to block them? How long is this going to take? Its a bit ridiculous really since I wrote 85% of the page, my docs are all attached etc.

Hi, Es würde mich brennend interessieren weshalb bei jedem Bild das gelöscht wurde immer wieder File:Uewerkuer vum Paul Faber.JPG steht, wenn oben eine völlig andere Datei gemeint ist! Und wieso nun auf einmal nach Wochen die Bilder von Versus You und dEFDUMp usw. doch ein Problem sind, was die vorrigen Prüfer nicht so empfunden haben. Komisch, aufeinmal stimmen alle Datei namen überein!? Aber eine Antwort bekommt man nicht? Hi Tarawneh, I hope you are well. I was hoping you might be able to have a word with مفرح جلي (talk · contribs) regarding COM:SCOPE and the general procedure to upload files here. I ask because I was about to nominate File:Imageابنتي اثار بنت مفرح جلي حاملاً لقطعة تعود للملك السبئي معد.jpg for deletion, and then saw its history. I think it clearly shows that the uploader is very confused about how commons works and what it's for. You seem to be the only admin fluent in Arabic (!). Don't over-categorize!

Hi Tarawneh, please don't over-categorize your images. For instance in your File:Jordan-16B-086.jpg

• Category:Roman theater in Amman is OK.
• Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Jordan as additional category is wrong. Since the entire Roman theater is a cultural heritage monument the entire Category:Roman theater in Amman is already categorized as Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Jordan. Hence it's overdone and wrong to categorize also single images of it like this.
• Category:Roman sites in Jordan as additional category is wrong. Fistly this category doesn't exist. Secondly the entire Category:Roman theater in Amman is already categorized as Category:Ancient Roman theatres in Jordan. Hence it's overdone and wrong to categorize also single images of it like this.

Would you be so kind to explain how the template was 'fixed'? The main difference seems to be that the template now also contradicts itself and not only COM:CRT#Jordan. The template now suggests that 1996 was more than 25 years before 1999. Stefan4, you got it wrong my friend. It takes any applied art work 25 years (starting January 1st of the creation year) to be in the public domain in Jordan. And in Jordan, as in lots of other countries, Graphic design is Applied art; that is where logos belongs. This logo was created 55 years ago, and is in the public domain in Jordan. Yet it has other kind of protection; what we call it here, علامة تجارية, (trade mark). But this is something totally different than the protection of copyrights. If you feel that the template wording needs extra attention, then we will work on it together if you wish, but that does not make this logo any less PD. --Tarawneh (talk) 05:42, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Maybe in the States, but the Jordanian laws, at the time, had all art works under the same category, the law was clear about it: اعمال الرسم والتصوير والنحت والحفر والعمارة والفنون التطبيقية والزخرفية. That translates into: Work of drawing, painting, sculpture, engraving, architecture, applied and decorative arts. keep in mind that lots was change after the new 2003 copyright law, but this item was already PD at the time. --Tarawneh (talk) 20:03, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

IP block exempt is only granted to users affected by hard blocks of their IP, or those who need to use proxy for a specific reason (for example, the Great Firewall of China). Kurdish user with copyright problems

Hello. There is a user on my talk page on English Wikipedia (w:User talk:Magog the Ogre) who seems to be confused about copyrights on Commons. There is definitely a language barrier. The user speaks Kurdish and is from Iraq, so I'm guessing that s/he probably understands Arabic. As you are the only Arabic administrator, would you mind taking a look? Thanks! De-adminship warning

Dear Tarawneh. I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

File:Petra - From the inside.jpg

Hi. I am editing pictures of the Byzantine church in Petra, called the Petra Church. Doing so I came across a picture put there by you. I do not recognize this as being from the church of which I have many pictures. It may have been in, for instance, Petra as a modern town, but it somehow drifted into the excavations site, and there is utterly wrong in my mind. The Flickr page it stems from does only mention Amman (fitting the gps location), not Petra, and someone wrote as a comment "This is described in the plaque on site as a Umayyad domed entrance hall built on an earlier Byzantine building (which explains the cruciform plan)." So what on earth happened here? I - for the time being - edit the description, adding "This must be a picture of some other church, probably in Amman."Dosseman (talk) 10:52, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Tarawneh, many of the images you've uploaded for CFI have promotional material concealed in their metadata.
