Dear Steinsplitter/Archive In the past, you contributed to the Wiki Loves Africa competition. This February, you have another opportunity to create beautiful photographs on the theme of "transportation" that could change how the world understands people and culture in your part of Africa. As with previous years, there are also many exciting cash prizes. Wiki Loves Africa is an annual public contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Images from the competition have helped millions learn more about Africa and see Africa more clearly from an African perspective. Overall, nearly 5000 people like you have contributed to this photo contest, and contributed 18,000 images about Africa. When does it take place? The 2020 competition will start on the 15th of February 2020 and close on 31st March 2020. What should we contribute? Pictures ! audios ! videos ! The theme for the 2020 contest is... Africa on the Move ! This theme encompasses a host of approaches and is intentionally open to interpretation. It encourages the submission of visual representations of movement or transportation, whether by path, road, sea air, by self-propelled, animal or mechanical means, or the historical or contemporary structures that have been created to facilitate movement or the transportation of people, goods, or animals. Anfrage: Griaß di Kollege! Du bist mir auf der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia als Grafiker für italienische Wappen/Flaggen empfohlen worden. Ich bin ein österreichischer Benutzer und versuche seit 2020, die Artikel rund um den italienischen Faschismus zur Auszeichnung zur führen (bereits fertig ist der Zweite Italienisch-Libysche Krieg, derzeit arbeite ich am de:Abessinienkrieg). Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Symbolik des italienischen Faschismus auf Wikipedia entweder ganz fehlt, oder aber ohne historisch korrekte Vorlage gestaltet wurde. Dafür suche ich nun Profis, die Anhand von Originalquellen die Wappen/Flaggen erstellen können. Meine erste Anfrage:

[*] Ich bitte um eine farbliche Umsetzung des großen, mittleren und kleinen Wappens des faschistischen Italien von 1927 bis 1929, das große und das kleine sind oben in Grautönen dargestellt. Der kleine Wappenschild wurde auf Wiki Commons bereits gut beim kleinen Wappen von 1929 bis 1943 (siehe oben) umgesetzt. Als Quelle kann dazu kann man das offizielle Regierungsblatt Gazzetta Ufficiale Nr. 160 vom 3. Juli 1927, S. 2928 f. angeben. Als Fachliteratur dazu habe ich Gustav Pfeifer: Municipal Heraldry in Fascist Italy: The Case of Bozen Civil Arms (1926–1943). In: The Coat of Arms. Third Series, Band VI Teil 2, Nr. 220, 2010, S. 81–100. gefunden. Die beiden Wappen sind hier auf S. 83 (Figure 1) und S. 84 (Figure 2) dargestellt. Eine Beschreibung zur Darstellung findet sich auf S. 84 f.:

Es gibt noch eine Reihe anderer Wappen und eine Flagge zu dieser Thematik, deren Umsetzung einen Spezialisten erfordern. Kannst du dir zumindest das erste Projekt oben vorstellen, bzw. wie schaut es bei dir überhaupt zeitlich aus? Since you want to block someone for COM:OVERCAT violations (instead of me for whom you had no evidence of such violaions), here is a user where there is plenty of actual evidence of these violations: See Categorization activity of User:Tm This way you do not have to rely on the questionable evidence from two diffs of A.Savin to block a user.

Double redirects

Let me first say that I really appreciate your bot and the work that it does to ensure that Commons files have the correct file extensions. I also appreciate that this bot automatically creates redirect pages when it moves a file so as not to break usages of the file. However, it does not check for double redirects when it makes a redirect page, which is bad. I encountered this issue with File:US Marine Band Rhapsody in Blue.ogg. While this is not a huge issue, double redirects do break usages of files on Wikimedia projects, so no automated process should be allowed to create double redirects. I have pinged you into the admins' wall but I was thinking about Issue74: is it possible that delinker is dead due to a wrong entry in the commands file? Maybe input sanitisation is wrong and there is a quote breaking the SQL somewhere? Okay, let me try to help then. I have created an LDAP account ("Peter Gervai") and after someone accepts it I could try to look into it. I guess there's some mess in the database table, but much easier to actually look at it instead of guessing. ;-) I haven't used TF some I may ask some assistance in accessing the specific project. Hallo, weil es mir bei allem Bemühen nicht gelingt irgendwo Information zu finden welche bots was machen oder wie ich einen bot-request aufsetzen kann, bin ich nun hier gelandet (es sollte einen einfachen Zugang zu solchen Informationen geben, den man nicht mühsam suchen muss!).
Mein 2. Problem: von den Dateien in der Kategorie Löwenstein haben ~39 den Namensteil "Loewenstein". Im Gegensatz zu Dateien betr. die Familie Loewenstein ist das eindeutig eine Falschschreibung, meist rührt das vom Falschschreibungsfan Rosenstein.
Einerseits gehört das IMHO richtiggestellt, andrerseits ist es doch für einen bot leichter, 39mal den rename durchzuführen. Kann dein bot das? Oder wie soll ich wen anderen fragen? Da das ja keine Dringlichkeit hat, erwarte ich keine umgehende Antwort; deshalb wäre ein Ping nett wenn es dann soweit ist. PX -- sarang♥사랑 10:04, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

@Soshial: Can you elaborate? The images are rotated with the lossless (which means “no generation loss”; note that even “lossless” jpegtran rotation can be slightly lossy [depends on the image's dimensions; at maximum 16 pixels are cropped at borders if a image is not consisting of full jpeg blocks – like most digi cam images are] but no new compression artifacts are added) rotate tools jpegtran. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:14, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hallo Steinsplitter, bist du bitte so nett mir auch hier das rename-Privileg zuzubilligen? Eigens für Massenedits habe ich diesen account eingerichtet, um mir nicht die Sarang-contributions damit vollzuschaufeln.
Dein bot: Gerne würde ich eine ganze Menge von Falschschreibungen korrigieren, aber 50 und mehr systematische renames sollten doch einfacher zu machen sein? Es gibt ein script massrename aber ich kann nirgends Infos finden wie das zu verwenden ist. Informationen über bots sind auch nicht allzu üppig. Falls du im Moment nicht wie sonst in die Natur fahren kannst, findest du vielleicht in den Tiefen deiner Festplatte oder auf dem Smartphone noch interessante Fotos.

Hallo ein altes Thema ist nochmal aufgetaucht. Du hattest vor einigen Jahren mal einen Lauf gemacht der eine Kategorie überprüft hat ob die beinhalteten Dateien mittlerweile keine sichtbaren Kategorien haben. Wäre das gelegentlich mal wieder möglich? Das betrifft wahrscheinlich Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United Kingdom und die Vorjahre 2019 und 2018 dazu. Grund: Wer eine Chargennummer und den dazugehörigen Impftermin kennt, kann über das Internetportal „nebenwirkungen.bund.de“ oder die „SafeVac-App“ des PEI eine plausibel wirkende Meldung abgeben. alphabetische Unterverzeichnisse in Artikel verlinken

Guten Tag Steinsplitter,
darf ich mich heute mit einer technischen Frage an Dich wenden.
Mein Problem: Ich versuche, in einem Artikel ein zu verlinkendes, alphabetisches Unterverzeichnis zu erstellen.
Bei allen meinen bisherigen Versuchen wurde folgende Meldung erstellt:

„Commons Galerien sind für Sammlungen von Bildern. 
Diese Aktion wurde automatisch als problematisch eingestuft und deswegen verhindert. Du befindest dich momentan im Hauptnamensraum, der auf Commons für Galerie-Seiten reserviert ist. Solche Galerie-Seiten sind für Bilder; Artikel gehören in   die Wikipedia oder nach Wikivoyage. Einige Dinge sollten beim Erstellen einer neuen Galerie immer enthalten sein. 
Wenn Du denkst, dass Deine Änderung trotzdem sinnvoll war, drücke ein zweites Mal auf "Seite speichern". Falls Du dir unsicher bist, ob es sich um eine hilfreiche Bearbeitung handelte, fragst Du am besten im Forum um Hilfe.“

Zur Verdeutlichung hier weitere Infos:
Z.B. die Orchideengattung Bulbophyllum hat über 2000 Arten. Große Mengen machen solche Seiten langsam und schwer zu bearbeiten.
Mein Wunsch: Das erste Bild auf dieser Seite (als Muster) mit dem grünen Buchstaben a soll einen Link zu allen Unterartikeln herstellen, die mit einem a beginnen (und alphabetisch so weiter).
Siehst Du eine Möglichkeit, hier und bei ähnlich großen Gattungen eine alphabetische Verlinkung zu erstellen.

Löschen von eigenen suboptimalen Bildern

Beim Hochladen der Fotos während meiner Humboldtreise sind relativ viele Bilder auf Grund schlechter Internetverbindung zumeist in niedriger Auflösung und unzulänglich kategorisiert hochgeladen worden. Einiges wurde von Dir wegen fehlender Kategorie moniert. Das gesamte Material wird von mir nun peu à peu neu sortiert, hochgeladen und möglichst auch korrekt kategorisiert. Im Grunde geht es darum, die supoptimalen Bilder auszumisten, geht das auch kategorienweise, natürlich nur bei den eigens für den Humboldtbilderpool angelegten versteckten Kategorien? Filter 142 Abuse Filter warning

Hello, G'day, This is wrt File:Lingeswar temple Bacheli 03.jpg This image was earlier tagged as Unidentified building in India. I identified it, updated the captions, description and categories and subsequently removed the "unidentified" tag. I seem to receive Filter 142 abuse Filter Warnings after such edits and I see that the filter is meant for logging of possible vandalism. It is not my intention to vandalise the image or it's data. @SierraTangoCharlie1: Interesting. You added a label in Hindi, which uses the hi language code. Abuse filters see structured data changes (like labels) just as the addition of text at the end of the page. Because of the hi language code, Special:AbuseFilter/142 thought you were adding "hi" to the page. I've changed the filter so it shouldn't trigger on edits like that anymore. In any case, that filter is a log-only filter, and shouldn't prevent you from making any edits. (talk page stalker) AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:49, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

der Bot und TIFF

Hallo. Es wären einige tausend Tiff-Bilder zur drehen. Ich hab jetzt gesehen, dass dein BOT leider nicht möchte. Im Archiv steht: "TIFF rotation has been temporarily disabled because upload failed (problems with the upload stash)." Wie ist denn da die Lage? Hello, please take a look at this report: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Files named with meaningless/disruptive names (motivated renaming was reverted without any valid reason) as these are serious everyday violations of the Commons rules and protection of meaningless names (in this case, Kalumny which translates as Columns). User Kazimier Lachnovič with filemover rights constantly performs violations of the Commons rules, creates instability issues and protects meaningless names, thus creates confusion. Hello Steinsplitter,

Is there some way to remove the "uncategorized" template without doing it by hand? For example, there are 26 files in "Media needing categories as of 5 June 2021" that are in categories of Kyrgyzstan that also have the "uncategorized" template. I have been editing such files by hand when I find them, but I am wondering if there is another way. Especially recently this situation seems to be happening, such as files in Category:Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural Buraco das Araras which I fixed by editing. I realized that I am technically unsophisticated and there is probably a way using regular expressions or something. @Krok6kola: Currently, the most effective way how to remove the "uncategorized" template from a group of files is to copy all the files to some non-existing fictional category using Cat-a-lot and then to remove them immediately. @ŠJů: Thanks so much! This will seem like a stupid question, but how to you "copy" files out of "uncategorized"? I saw editors doing that but I assumed they had some sort of power I did not. @Krok6kola: If you have Cat-a-lot activated, the "Cat-a-lot" dialogue is available at every category page, at every Special Search results page (the new search tool doesn't support Cat-a-lot), at every Special:ListFiles page (User Uploads). "Cat-a-lot" dialogue contains 3 symbols for changes: → move, – remove, + copy/add (search result page and listfiles page offer just +). The moment you add any category using HotCat or Cat-a-lot, "uncategorized" template is automatically removed. --ŠJů (talk) 15:13, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Bug in Template:Assessments

Hallo Steinsplitter,

ich bin über ein Problemchen gestolpert, das recht viele Valued Images/Featured Pictures betreffen dürfte und das (vermute ich mal) auf einen Bug im Template {{Assessments}} zurückgeht. Ich bin mir nicht ganz klar, wer für die Wartung dieses vielgebrauchten Templates zuständig ist, und es ist leider viel zu komplex, als dass ich mit meiner geringen Template-Erfahrung durchsteigen würde. Darum schreibe ich Dir, da Du in der Vergangenheit einige an diesem (und anderen Templates) gemacht hast. Falls ich bei Dir falsch bin, wäre ich für einen Tipp dankbar, an wen ich mich wenden soll. Vielen Dank!

Also: Auf den Seiten von Bilder wie z.B. diesem hier, die sowohl ein Valued Image als auch ein Featured Picture sind, bei denen aber im {{Assessments}}-Template der Scope des Valued Images nicht angegeben ist (der Parameter val-cat fehlt), erzeugt das {{Assessments}}-Template offenbar falschen Wiki-Code, durch den dann der vom Template erzeugte Text falsch und hässlich formatiert wird. Im am Ende ausgegebenen HTML-Code steht im Satz „This is a featured picture on Wikimedia Commons (Featured pictures) ...“ zwar vor dem „featured picture“ ein <b>, hinter dem „featured picture“ aber statt dem korrekten </b> vielmehr '<i> (mit einem verirrten Apostroph). Dadurch ist die Formatierung des restlichen Satzes falsch, er ist fett-kursiv statt normal. Auch der folgende Satz: „This image has been assessed under the valued image criteria …“ ist noch fälschlich fett-kursiv, und an seinem Ende steht ein weiterer verirrter Apostroph.

Ich weiß, das klingt sehr umständlich, aber auf der angegebenen Beispiel-Seite wird deutlich, was ich meine. Die Sache wirkt etwas exotisch, aber das Problemchen scheint eine ganze Menge Bilder zu betreffen (ich kann gerne noch mehr nennen, falls das etwas hilft). Das Problem ist nicht „furchtbar“, aber da es die Formatierierung der Beschreibung einer Reihe unserer besten Bilder betrifft, wäre es toll, wenn es behoben werden könnte – vielleicht ist ja nur irgendwo im Code des Templates ein Apostroph falsch pla(z)ziert oder so...

Nachtrag: Ich sehe gerade, dass das Problem noch weitere seltsame Formatierungsvarianten erzeugen kann. An diesem Bild sieht man, was das Fehlen der VP-Scope-Angabe für Folgen hat, wenn im {{Assessments}}-Template auch noch eingetragen ist, wann das Bild ‘Picture of the day’ war. In diesem Fall begint die falsche Formatierung im Satz „This file was the picture of the day' …“, wieder ist der Rest der Angaben fälschlich fett-kursiv und wieder gibt es falsch platzierte Apostrophe. Das scheint also dasselbe Problem zu sein, es betrifft offenbar immer alle Angaben zu Assessments, die nach dem Hinweis „This file is marked as a valued image, but it is missing its scope! Tiff files are blocking the script, i disabled .tiff rotation for now. Upload stash has some issues with tiff files, and there are a few other issues such as image magic jobs of large files getting killed on labs. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:47, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

З 1 по 30 вересня вже традиційно пройде українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»! В Україні цей конкурс пройде вже вдесяте. На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. Як і того року — у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» можна отримати 21 бал за фотографії об'єктів, якщо світлин цієї пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено.

Нагадаємо, що всі фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Цього року вперше будуть окремо виділені фото з повітря (дронами, квадрокоптерами тощо) — у спеціальній номінації «Аерофото». Для того, щоб робота потрапила на спецномінацію потрібно вибрати її у Завантажувачі.

Також вперше проводиться спеціальна номінація «Пам'ятки Подесення», знову пройдуть спецномінації «Відео», «Єврейська спадщина», «Млини», «Пам'ятки національно-визвольної боротьби» та «Via Regia Ukraine». Для участі світлин у цих спецномінаціях не потрібно обирати нічого у Завантажувачі — світлини зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

Привіт!

Нагадуємо, що до 30 вересня включно можна вантажити світлини та відео культурної спадщини України до національного етапу міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»!

Зараз Україна посідає 3-є місце за кількістю завантажених світлин, поступаючись Російській Федерації та Німеччині. За першу половину місяця було завантажено світлини пам'яток із усіх регіонів України, але частина із них є дуже погано представлена. Севастополь зараз представлений тільки однією пам'яткою і одним фото, Крим — 12 пам'яток і 51 фото. Детальніше — у таблиці:

Цього року у конкурсі є вісім спеціальних номінацій:

«Аерофото» — для фото з повітря (зроблені дронами, квадрокоптерами тощо). Для того, щоб робота потрапила на спецномінацію потрібно вибрати її у Завантажувачі;
«Відео» — для відеосюжетів з пам'ятками;
«Єврейська спадщина» — для об'єктів із охоронним статусом, і без нього;
«Млини» — для об'єктів із охоронним статусом, і без нього;
«Пам'ятки національно-визвольної боротьби» — для об'єктів із охоронним статусом, і без нього;
«Пам'ятки Подесення» — для об'єктів із охоронним статусом, і без нього;
«Via Regia Ukraine» — для об'єктів із охоронним статусом 15 населених пунктів, що за цим маршрутом є.

Request for Abuse Filter rule

Could you please set up an Abuse Filter rule to get rid of a vandal from 151.0.0.0/10 who removes valid structured data claims? For example see histories of File:Magic Kingdom castle.jpg or File:Logo HSM 2.jpg (there are many more). --jdx ^Re: 23:24, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017 and Wiki Science Competition 2019, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), but it's still open in almost all the other countries.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, that is "astronomy".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Lieber Steinsplitter, der Rotate-Bot sagt z.B. bei dieser Datei, "Dieses Bild kann von SteinsplitterBot nicht automatisch gedreht werden." mit der Begründung "Reason: filetype not supported (iff)". Die Begründung lässt mich vermuten, dass der tatsächliche Dateityp "tiff" nicht erkannt wird. Ist das so? --Sebastian Wallroth (talk) 12:16, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Tiff wird derzeit nicht unterstützt da es noch einige Probleme zu beheben gibt. Das iff ist nur ein Platzhalter, da das Dateiformat an sich nicht freigeschaltet ist. lg --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:52, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi, SteinsplitterBot tagged 4 images (1, 2, 3, 4) as "uncategorized (Only orphaned categories found..)" even though the "orphan" category it found was not actually orphan. I suspect this might be a bug. Golden (talk) 17:15, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
