Radio 538

Warning, there's a Dutch radio with some relevance and appearing in two linguistic chapters of Wikipedia, not exactly with no relevance. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:01, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

@Blackcat: Thank you for catching that Sergio. I've restored the logo and reverted the close to keep. lNeverCry 07:31, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry,

Why has this file been deleted ? Please let me know how can I revert it ?

Rusirascal (talk) 12:12, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

I've restored it and filed a deletion request: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dr. Aaashish Contractor.jpg. lNeverCry 02:22, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Little request

Hi, INeverCry, now I have a little problem with the upload of MOTTAZ78843, because he's uploading several images of football players with innapropiated names, and I suspect that he uploads freely any image from Internet. I sended messages but is futile. I need some help. Thanks. --Taichi (talk) 07:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Done Uploads nuked, user blocked. lNeverCry 07:57, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Good day. Can I ask you to help me to upload logo for | Lada? I tried to fill all the fields right, but couldn't do it. =( Russian Bear2010 (talk) 11:06, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

You probably had a problem because there was already a Lada logo on (File:Lada Logo.png). I've added it to Lada. lNeverCry 11:47, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
It's an old logo, which is out of date for about 5 years. This is why I was trying to update it. Russian Bear2010 (talk) 12:02, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
OK. Give me a second. lNeverCry 12:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Please review

Please take a look at this close. I fail to see how OTRS would manage copyrights on newspaper articles and I'm concerned about the way it was handled esp. due to abusive behavior from uploader. Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:20, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: I'm not familiar with the closer, but if they want to take over full responsibility for this user's uploads, there's not much you can do since OTRS is involved. But they get the whole package, uploader and all. If the uploader bothers you, you know who to send him to. lNeverCry 07:36, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Gotcha, thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: Just noticed this here, since I was pinged below, but it had been mentioned to me separately. The uploader is a representative of a small GLAM (the Bronx County Historical Society), and is rather obviously quite frustrated... ToAruShiroiNeko is attempting to engage in some 'education' of the uploader, and salvage a possible relationship with someone who probably has much usable material in their collections... it's rather obvious that stuff like NYT and NYDN articles are not going to be licensed, tho. Reventtalk 21:27, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Notice of re-upload

The files you took down from the English Wikipedia article en:Moody Pedestrian Bridge have been uploaded again by the same user, with no further indication of ownership than they had before. I'm not familiar with the process for marking them again for review and possible removal, but I thought I'd let you know. They're good images and I wish we could use them, but if they had to be taken down the first time, then they're probably still not permissible. Thanks!-Bryanrutherford0 (talk) 21:58, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I've given him a short block for now. I'll see about getting the re-uploaded files deleted again. @Revent: Can you take a look at this? You tagged these, so I figured you might be able to nuke these quicker than I could. lNeverCry 07:45, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
That was a while back, have to refresh my memory... I vaguely recall this. Looking. Reventtalk 20:38, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
@Bryanrutherford0: Ok, I have refreshed my memory, and looked at the old files. The images in the article now are 'not' actually the same images, but instead different ones of the same structure... see Commons:Deletion requests/Files related to Rosales and Partners for history.
The current images have been taken from where they are shown as copyrighted, again, as the copyrighted work of multiple photographers... and Nionoodle cannot possibly be two different people, of course. Both of the photographers are 'known' professionals in the Austin area, and that they have licensed their material to Commons is highly unlikely. I've speedied the images. Good block. Reventtalk 21:15, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. lNeverCry 02:25, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Talk page removal

Your edit indicates this uploader is bad but the image in question is a cropped version of File:Secretary Tim Geithner and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee 2010.jpg which is a good image, so could have been given a good review. It could be restored as there are not a large number of headshots of him so it would not be redundant. Ww2censor (talk) 14:42, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

I deleted it because I don't want to encourage the now-daily activity of this LTA sockmaster (Jhony jhony ha ji). If you want to upload it under your own name that would be a much better idea. lNeverCry 14:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
@Ww2censor: FYI, Be careful. This sockmaster has used at least 20+ Flickrwashing accounts so far. lNeverCry 14:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I normally review the Flickr account quite carefully including the profile and their other images before making a decision, but will ask if I have concerns. It seemed quite odd to get an out-of-the-blue review request from someone I had never encountered previously. Maybe I'll just do a crop (with the CropTool) of the original which preserves all the original information. BTW, you seem to be deleting many of my nominations, so thanks for that, and this info too. Ww2censor (talk) 14:57, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Sure we never cry... what for ? ;-)

Hello ! Some days ago, you delete this map [1], deletion required by Sealle because "copyviol". Just for your information, my map were, from the aesthetic side exclusively, derivative since this one [2] but, from the side of content, completely different and in accordance with the books and articles cited, which did not contain maps. Concerning this deleted map, no one can find another identic map on the web. My question : when I draw a map as this one, derivative from another from the aesthetic side and according with some scientific sources from the contents side, must I ask the permission (a sending to OTRS) of all the authors of the aesthetic model, and of the scientific sources ? Thank you ! (After use, please delete the flurry copy [3]) --Julieta39 (talk) 19:13, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

I really know nothing about maps. I know Sealle and trust him, so I did the deletion. I would suggest you post this at COM:UDEL or COM:VP/C. lNeverCry 02:28, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Victuallers

The voter is calling for a speedy close (keep). When I try to open the link they describe, it says that it's a violation, and it won't play. MCMLXXXIX 00:39, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

The original file isn't available to you where you live. The video is still up, but you need to be on a Central or South American IP to see the video. If Discasto says it's ok, I'd believe him. I don't feel like logging out and hooking up an open proxy from Venezuela, etc. lNeverCry 00:47, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
The video is really under a CC-BY license, I've just checked it and closed the DR. Cheers. Anna (Cookie) (talk) 03:41, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi all, I'm not actually aware of YouTube providing contents only to specific locations (I assume it should be a regional filter, but the rationale provided is pretty clear: "this video is not available in your country"). AFAIK, @Victuallers: is based in Europe. Both @Cookie: and myself are based in Spain. The video works for Cookie and for me and, I assume (otherwise he hadn't been able to extract the frames), for Victuallers. I'm really intrigued with the fact that neither you nor @1989: are able to watch the video. For the sake of clarity, here you have the web page from LaComarca.Tv that embeds the YouTube video (provided through the LaComarca.Tv YouTube channel). May I assume that you can access the web page but not the video? --Discasto talk 11:08, 2 December 2016 (UTC) PS: on the other hand, I assume that trusted reviews is what the community was looking for when the reviewer role was created. Victuallers made some mistakes when (not) including the {{LicenseReview}} template for all the pictures. I fixed it (but without actually carrying out the review) and, in at least one case, I acknowledged the screenshot status (see here) before the deletion request was opened. 1989 was unable to provide any rationale but an undefined "The channel is fake". When asked about what he actually meant he simply answered that it was fake because he said it was fake, and sort of threats ("or I have to take further actuon"). Eventually, he opened a regular deletion request with the same unsubstantiated rationale, even if I had, as trusted reviewer, acknowledged the status of the source. Therefore, what 1989 was actually claiming was that I'm not a trusted reviewer any more. And I'm still wondering why.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is probably the first such video 1989 has run into. As I said, when I've seen them in the past, and it's only been a handful, I just hooked up an open proxy from Venezuela, and I was able to access the video. There's no issue of trust here, just a YouTube channel that is restricted in the USA. I'm sure 1989 will learn from this. lNeverCry 21:10, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Quick Interpretation of Cardiac Axis on ECG.png

You deleted the talk page, not the file itself. Axl (talk) 13:22, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

The file is in use. So fixing it or overwriting it with a fixed version would be better than deletion. As for my deletion, that was one among hundreds, so I didn't notice the DR was on the talk. Since it's used, that's a good thing. lNeverCry 19:38, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
"File in use" is not a reason for overriding a community decision to delete. It's not a "good thing" to substitute your own judgement - that's not what we have admins for. Nor it it an excuse to tell us that you were doing so many deletions that you made a mistake. Please carry out the decision and delete the file. --RexxS (talk) 20:41, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
RexxS, Please read (again) Commons policies. If the file is in legitimate use, then we keep it. So in short, INC is right. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:48, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
@Yann: Show me the link to the policy that says having a file in use prevents its deletion. Or optionally the one that says an admin can decide whether a "file is in legitimate use", over the results of a deletion debate. If he wants to express an opinion, he does it in the debate, not by a super-vote after it's concluded. In short, INC is so wrong, it's not funny. --RexxS (talk) 20:56, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
RexxS, sorry, but you are wrong. Read the policy before arguing anything with experienced admins. Thanks, Yann (talk) 21:13, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
@Yann: Sorry but you're wrong. You couldn't even give me a link to the COM:INUSE policy, which states "A media file that is in use on one of the other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation is considered automatically to be useful for an educational purpose, as is a file in use for some operational reason such as within a template or the like. Such a file is not liable to deletion simply because it may be of poor quality: if it is in use, that is enough" {my emphasis}. The reason for deletion was not that it was poor quality, but that it was incorrect - Commons:Deletion requests/File talk:Quick Interpretation of Cardiac Axis on ECG.png. If you want to play at policy-wonking, take a look at the parent of INUSE, COM:EDUSE: "Must be realistically useful for an educational purpose ... The expression 'educational' is to be understood according to its broad meaning of 'providing knowledge; instructional or informative'." An image that provides incorrect information is thoroughly useless for educational purposes, wouldn't you say? Now, can I suggest that you make an effort to understand the policies before arguing with experienced users who have been editing longer than either of you. --RexxS (talk) 21:42, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry,

I have written to you regarding your removal of several photos in my article here du to a question about their copyright.

I hold the copyright to them myself and I need the photos in the article. Can you please get back to me so we can sort this out?

File:Voos internacionais de CNF em 11-2016.gif ; File:Voos nacionais de CNF em 11-2016.gif

Dear INeverCry, Apparently, there's a mistake involving these two files. User EugeneZelenko detected that they were without the proper copyright information and asked me to correct them; b ArthurBaz

The question here is what is the source of the base satellite images you're using for these? lNeverCry 02:15, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
The base image is GreatCircleMapper, the same platform used by other members to create the same map style of the other Brazilian airports. As GCMapper is the platform I used to create my map, and not the source of it, I didn't find it to be a complication, in the same way that someone who rather would have used MS Paint or Photoshop wouldn't put it as the source. Anyways, is there anything I still can do, now that I know that this is the main problem?ArthurBaz (talk) 21:43, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with GreatCircleMapper, but my question is where do the satellite images themselves come from? Very few entities own satellites. The ones we see here most are copyrighted Google Earth material, or Government material such as NASA images. The basic question, to put it short, is who is the copyright holder of the satellite images used in the above deleted files? lNeverCry 21:51, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I see. According to GCMapper, 'Blue Marble and Night maps are based on Blue Marble: Next Generation (and Blue Marble) imagery from NASA's Earth Observatory.' ArthurBaz (talk) 16:25, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Hmm. @Jameslwoodward:, @Clindberg:, @Elcobbola:, @Storkk: is {{PD-USGov-NASA}} appropriate here? lNeverCry 22:49, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I can't see the files to see if there were any copyrightable additions or alterations, but the Blue Marble stuff should be OK if not. Automated processing by a tool usually would not count as a copyrightable addition. Carl Lindberg (talk) 01:08, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Clindberg: Thanks for the quick response. I've temporarily restored them so that you could look at them. Any help you can give in getting these properly licensed/sourced/attributed would be greatly appreciated. lNeverCry 01:15, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Clindberg:@INeverCry:Thank you both! I've changed the licence of both files, please check if it is everything ok now. ArthurBaz (talk) 02:50, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
It looks like a pretty stock Blue Marble image, maybe with some sharpening. Not sure I can identify the exact source though (they released monthly pictures for a while). I would just credit it to NASA's Blue Marble, via the GreatMappingCircle tool. Carl Lindberg (talk) 05:27, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
I think we need to be a little wary about assigning NASA copyright to any image from a NASA created tool/telescope, just like we wouldn't recognize an ArcSoft copyright claim just because they made the tool/webcam. This was also a potential issue with last year's POTY winner (cf the OTRS ticket). That said, absent any specific claims of third party authorship, I don't think it would be an issue with these files or any other files that were likely taken fully automatically. Storkk (talk) 13:33, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
@Storkk:Ok, so the image can stay as it was before the beggining of the copyright trouble (licence CC-By-SA-4.0)? ArthurBaz (talk) 01:06, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
@Storkk: NASA has a pretty firm commitment to releasing their scientific data (including images from their missions) to the public domain. Yes, if a third party rents time on a satellite like the Hubble, that would be different, but their space missions are usually all PD material, whether by NASA employees or not -- pretty sure that is generally part of the contracts when participating. See meta:Wikilegal/NASA images. It's certainly possible there could be additional expression added later by third parties, of course, though automated processing would usually not count. Carl Lindberg (talk) 05:27, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
@ArthurBaz: I don't think adding radiating lines amounts to creating a new copyrightable work, so I would suggest {{PD-USGov-NASA}}. @Clindberg: Understood, and thanks for that link to Wikilegal's analysis... I do think it's important to be aware of the concerns they acknowledge in the section on collaborative works, but it's good to know that many such contracts will explicitly remove copyright protection. And in any case these satellite images, which were likely created fully automatically and therefore wholly by NASA are unlikely to be a concern. I was (admittedly, perhaps in the wrong place) trying to point out that we often blindly assume NASA has wholly created an image, whereas I think we should be a touch more cautious. Storkk (talk) 08:25, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
@Storkk:@INeverCry:, alright, so as nothing more was said, I'll assume this is the final desision, so I'll remove the {No source since|month=November|day=28|year=2016} predefinition for both files, ok? Thank you all for the support! Please tell me if there's still something missing. ArthurBaz (talk) 03:42, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@ArthurBaz: except that "source" is not really your own work. I'd suggest Source=GreatCircleMapper , with the most specific link that makes sense. Storkk (talk) 17:31, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Okay, Storkk, so I've done as I found in another wikimedia file done with GCMap: "Own work Created with Global Circle Mapper". Thank you for your support! ArthurBaz (talk) 15:27, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

"pathological dishonesty"

I had missed that you used this term with regards to Fae, and warned Colin about using it as a section heading. The simple fact is that describing the behavior of another editor as pathological 'whatever', instead of simply as 'whatever', is a personal attack that implies the person suffers from some kind of mental illness that compels them to do so. Colin used it in a section heading at AN:B, and when I warned him for it he objected that you had used the same language and I had not warned you (I had not even read it, but whatever). He's right about that, and so I am now doing so. Don't use terms that imply the person you are referring to is mentally ill, or I will have to block you. Thanks.   The Admin's Barnstar
Thank you for your admin work on Commons, now and over the years. You have grown to become one of the best and active admins here on Commons, and it's sad to see you go. I understand that positions like this can be stressful, and it's okay to take breaks. If you really don't want to be an admin again, I can understand that as well. Whatever you choose, I wish you the best. Yours sincerely, MCMLXXXIX 23:03, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate the consideration. Adminship can be very rewarding, when you can protect someone from a sockmaster or deal with some other problem directly. But it takes a strong disposition to even want to be an admin. I've had a dozen people tell me no thanks when I asked them about RFA. In the end it all evens out. I won't be missing the complaints about my deletions...   lNeverCry 23:16, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

A less stressful work

hi INeverCry, I am sorry to read that you're stopping being a sysop, particularly for health issues; you were kind of a reference for me on Commmons, especially now that I am using the new functions I obtained, which was eventually thanks to you. In any case, helping in Wikimedia projects should be funny and relaxing, so you're totally right in leaving stressful tasks if you don't enjoy them anymore!

That's why I am proposing you some more relaxing stuff :) I would like you to review from time to time my admin actions, so I can understand well certain mechanisms. I am not dealing with all the DR or UNDEL because I reckon that some cases are complex for my actual experience, but fell free to guide me in certain discussions, if you think that it's necessary. On the other hand, if you prefer to give a full stop to all sysop operations, it's not a problem at all, and I'll happily follow the learning curve regularly. Cheers! --Ruthven (msg) 11:09, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@Ruthven: You'll do fine as an admin. Remember, I was new myself once too. Just about any mistake you make can be repaired. If you mess up a deletion, you can restore the file and use to repair usage of the file. Blocks can be easily removed. I would advise you to start with deletion requests by myself, EugeneZelenko, and others, that have to do with scope, and are simple and uncontested. I do DRs for out of scope unused personal images, so your chances of running into problems closing them are very slight. But you've got to beat Jcb and Ellin to those deletions first!   lNeverCry 21:13, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you my friend. I didn't know that tool! On the other side, I am now able to reduce OTRS backlog more effectively: it's really quicker when you can check the files yourself! --Ruthven (msg) 22:37, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi INC, I was away in Periyar National Park for a butterfly survey for four days. It is a huge forest of 295 km2 with no disturbance from the world. When returned, I saw you resigned from the admin team. I hope it is good for your health. Keep enjoy yourself and choose more comfortable work. I remember your physical weakness that you shared in an early post. I too not very healthy; but can able to walk and climb forest with the colleagues. And I'm able to find "my place" in such expeditions. It gives me more energy when I win against the fight against my limitations. Cheers! Jee 04:41, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: It's nice to hear from you. If you can walk on an expedition, you've got me beat. I've taken maybe 3 or 4 walks in the past year, and never more than a mile. I usually only leave the house to go to the doctor or dentist. This disability hurts a bit, but I know that its purpose is to wear away my pride and my ego and let my soul shine through.

As for adminship, it's not a big deal. I've done it so long that there's really no more excitement in it for me. When you've done over 400,000 log actions, things start getting repetitive. The complaints at your talkpage about deleted images especially start to be tiresome. I'm going to be working on images from now on, which is why I started editing. But I took the old admin car for a ride one last time, and I had a little bit of fun. lNeverCry 18:17, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

This Korean actress has a coming soon drama and given the usually tremendous interest for Korean drama, I'm afraid there will be some attempts to upload unlicensed images of her once the drama start, as she's the lead role. So it's better to give the page an infobox image now. Thank you.

Matemateca digitalization

Hi, INeverCry. I thought I would let you know that the project of digitalization of the University of São Paulo Museum of Mathematics, that is being done with equipment we got from a grant you supported a couple of weeks ago, has been launched. This activity is led by myself and Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton, and results may be found here. We have only uploaded a small set of pictures (a pilot) at this time; most uploads will be short movies. Let us know what you think. Thanks for your support, --Joalpe (talk) 10:02, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

@Joalpe: The images look great so far. Rodrigo.Argenton is a professional, so I'm not surprised to see the high level of quality of these images. I just wish he'd do more nominations of his work at FPC. lNeverCry 23:20, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Please take a look

Seems like someone is uploading every advertising trinket they can find, see [4] and tell me what you think would be best done? Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:02, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi. I hope you don't mind if I give feedback. First, these files are out of scope, they are not useful for educational purposes. Second, it is not known if the trinkets is in the Public Domain or not, since the uploader does not describe the authors, and they don't look old to me. Third, the purpose of the images is likely promotional, the uploader even made a gallery and category page. -- MCMLXXXIX 20:29, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
  • @Ellin Beltz: The uploader is a long time editor with 168,000 edits, so I would advise being gentle with any action taken. These keychains are in scope since they advertise notable name brands/companies. These are also utilitarian objects made and distributed by the companies to be used to hold keys, so the copyright issue/s may not be cut and dry. You might ask Jameslwoodward or Clindberg about these. I would stress again that the uploader, Alfvanbeem, is a highly active member of the community, so this needs to be handled carefully and correctly. lNeverCry 21:16, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
  • INC, Ellin, I don't think scope is a problem, but I glanced through them using VFC and I think most of the first hundred are copyvios, so they need to be gone over carefully. The fobs are utilitarian, but the advertising inserts and shapes have copyrights. The lapel pins are not utilitarian. Alfvanbeem may be a prolific user, but he should know better than to assume these can stay on Commons. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 21:56, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Jim. I knew many of these would be problematic, but I want to make sure we don't hit the uploader with a sledgehammer. Many users here like Alfvanbeem focus primarily on uploads, and often there will be a copyright or FoP problem here and there amongst thousands of good uploads, and the problematic uploads will have been done unintentionally. I'll take a look through the uploads and see about a mass DR. lNeverCry 23:32, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
  • @Jameslwoodward:, @Ellin Beltz: I've looked through these for the past hour, and they go on and on. We may be looking at a mass DR of 500 or more images. I'm not sure how best to handle this? One big mass DR may be seen as too unwieldy. There may also be pins in there that are PD due to age. I was up into 600+ uploads and the pins were still going. This would be a perfect collection for Flickr. I don't know if I feel like dropping the delete hammer on several hundred files on Christmas Eve. Jim, it may be better for you too go through these. I think you'd do a more precise job of it than I can. Also, since this is a collection uploaded by an NL editor with many Dutch pins, maybe an opinion from @Jcb: would be helpful. It might be good to give the uploader a heads-up that so many of his uploads may need to be deleted, and he's a native Dutch-speaker. Maybe the uploader would agree to or prefer a straight nuking of the uploads than a big DR or series of DRs? lNeverCry 00:47, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
    • I have left a message at his talk page, telling that his uploads are being examined and telling that I will be there to help in case of any difficulty with the language. Jcb (talk) 01:02, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Johan. I may just do a first DR of the most obvious hundred or so, and go from there. If you get a chance, perhaps you could tell him to upload this great collection at Flickr. These pins would get plenty of attention and favorites there from fellow collectors, and Flickr doesn't worry about this kind of copyright issue as we all know. lNeverCry 01:16, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
      • Thanks everyone, I thought it best to get excellent help on these - and you all came through! Merry almost Christmas Eve to you, Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:43, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
At all concernig this subject. I am not offended if you think my uploads are copyviolations. I sometimes am in doubt of if an object i photograph and upload on commons is copyvio. In those cases i always add a trademarked licence to it. If other people with more expertise of the subject think differently about such an upload, i appreciate it and let them decide what to do with it. Only note that there are also a lot of pins that i think are certainly not copyvio like Münster Dusseldorf Ungarn speldje.JPG or Schutter speldje.JPG for example. Also a lot of brands are only shown by name and not by their official logo's. Furthermore, I have no other objective than to enrich wikimediacommons. By the way, i did not know that wikimediacommons was there only to serve educational purposes. Is this true? Regards Alfvanbeem (talk) 09:13, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
Alfvanbeem, thank you for your very constructive attitude. Although deletions for copyright violations are never good -- they remove content that we would like to have -- they are much harder when the uploader fights them. It would be helpful it you went through them and added {{Delete}} tags to those that you think are possibly copyvios. As for the two you mention above, the first is probably OK, but the second, which you say is "Advertising pin of an old (Dutch) product or brand" is probably a copyvio unless it is pre-WWII. Remember that copyright exists even if the brand is gone.
INC, I think starting small is a very good idea, and perhaps waiting until Monday. I might start with fifty and see how it goes. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:00, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
@Jameslwoodward: That sounds good. Nobody wants to do much of this kind of work over the holidays. Let me take this chance to wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year back there in Mass. I wish I could see my family back in Warren and Ware, but money and health problems have gotten in the way on my end, while big families and some health issues have stopped my brothers and sisters from coming out here to Nevada. lNeverCry 00:56, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
@Jameslwoodward:Hi Jim, i started with DRs for the most suspect ones. But as i am going along and checking logo's with google and also their official websites (when they excist), i see that a lot of those pins do not have the company logo's but sometimes look like it. Is it a good idea to add a comment in the description field to say that this is not a real logo? Also, shall i move the pins that are not advertising to another to be created directory? • Many thanks! I wish you and your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

As regards adminship, I'm one of the ten most active admins in WMF history, with 450,000 log actions between here and the 6 months I was an admin over on Wikipedia. It gets tiresome after a while. Most sockmasters are so predictable it's painfully boring to deal with them. But the worst part of being an active admin is the deletion-related questions you get on your talk all the time. I've probably told a 5,000+ people to email OTRS or go post at UDEL, and "userfied" a couple hundred deleted pages at {yawn}   lNeverCry 01:37, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you INeverCry for your wishes and words!! They are really encouraging!! I also wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best for the coming year! Best, Poco2 10:46, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, INC, and Merry Christmas to you as well. As for the 5,000+ people -- I find it amazing in real life that there are people who, while dealing all the time with the public, have to put up with the 10% of the public who can be really difficult. Many years ago, I ran a small retail business -- we built boats -- and vowed never to do retail again. The abuse from the 10% far outweighed the good friendships from the 10% on the other end of the scale. On the other hand, here on Commons, I am more or less insulated from direct contact and have a supportive group of colleagues around me, so I find it easy to put up with the difficult ones who want to argue endlessly about black letter law. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 11:31, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

The difference is that you're stable and mature, and I'm neurotic and unpredictable...and I enjoy some drama now and then. Since 1959, it is a Swedish tradition to (at 3 pm) watch Donald Duck and other Disney cartoons on TV. The most appreciated part is about Donald as bird photographer in Clown of the Jungle. @Srittau: Nah, I'll leave it to you lucky admins (though I did speedy-nom his little sandbox template). Jhony's going to be around for a long time, and so you may see hundreds of further socks from him. I personally just nuked his uploads and deleted any pages he'd created when I was dealing with him, but it's all the same in the end. The thing to watch out for with him is Flickrwashing. I personally blacklisted a dozen or so Flickr accounts of his. Otherwise he's just a minor problem compared to sockmasters like Starship9000 and Wikinger. lNeverCry 21:25, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

PD-old question

Hello! I was wondering if there is a community consensus on after how much time we can accept file whose author is unknown. Take for instance File:Jean-Baptiste Nouvion.jpg: after 140 years one could consider that it is PD. Any advice? --Ruthven (msg) 09:58, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ruthven,
IMO, 120 years is fine for unknown authors. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:06, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
@Yann:, thank you, I solved using {{PD-US-unpublished}} then. :) --Ruthven (msg) 11:08, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Happy new year!

Happy new year!

It's bad, that I predicted more-less correctly length of your adminship here in comments, and it's good, that you worked a lot as admin. Taivo (talk) 15:21, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
  • @Taivo: Thanks for reminding me!   I had to give it a shot, but I had a sneaking suspicion you'd be right. Adminship wasn't nearly as enjoyable this time around for me as it was back in 2012/2013/2014. Not having checkuser was a big disadvantage too. In the end, A.Savin was absolutely right in saying that I do good as a regular editor but not so good as an admin. Being a regular editor is more free and less stressful. I tended to take on too much as an admin, and get too intense and confrontational. But so what? No big deal now. My mental and physical well being are much more important than anything I can do here. Anyways, I hope you and your family and friends have a happy and healthy 2017! I wish the same to A.Savin and his family and friends, and I mean that a lot more than the dumb shit I said to him earlier in the year. lNeverCry 23:04, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Pair of socks?

Could you work your magic on these two and see if you think they're socking? one & two. They've both uploaded weird drawings, you zapped some, I got the others, see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Szczepan Koruba autor Robert Zwierzyniecki.jpg Thanks! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:58, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

It's hard for me to say since I can't see the uploads of R.Zwierzyniecki. If Pesell has a shared upload or uploads, I guess you could block that account too, though from what I'm seeing, they haven't edited in 3+ months. lNeverCry 22:37, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
